@john - that's exactly what I did (AD group for the teacher PC), rights assigned. I could well be being a donkey here, I'll grab some screenshots of the Impero rights console later so you can sanity-check it. PS - yep, latest version.

I'm looking to get Impero set up so that the following happens: Any teacher can use the console from the teacher PC in an IT room (after entering the password) and see the PCs in that room. Only that room. So if a teacher logs on in IT1, they see the IT1 machines. If they later log in in IT2, they see the IT2 machines. I thought (and the Impero documentation implies) that you do this by assigning rights to the PCs, but when I do that I just get 'you don't have permission' errors when opening the console. I contacted support, who told me that what I want to do is impossible, which is a bit odd as this should be pretty basic stuff for a classroom management app. Am I going about this the right way?

Another vote for 'old HP LaserJets will survive anything' - we've been standardising our printers over the past few months, ending up with: HP 4250n - these go pretty much anywhere where you need a networked mono printer. I prefer these over the 4200s as they can take the high-capacity cartridges. HP 4350(d/t)n - these go where the printer will be hammered constantly (i.e. main office, staff IT room). Bonus: they take the same carts as the 4250! HP 1022 - for where a 4250 isn't justified or it just needs to be attached to one PC. HP CP2025n - for networked colour print (i.e. IT rooms). Toner is relatively cheap (if you go for remanufactured) and they seem reliable. If they want to start 'cleaning' after every page and whine about 'misprints', do this. Konica 7450II - two of these colour+A3 beasts for DT. Can be a bit odd at times though, if buying again I'd look elsewhere. No major issues though. We removed quite a few newer printers from service and replaced them with the above - we've had far less hassle with them (and the toner is cheaper too - one of the ones we replaced was around £100 per cart! Madness!)

We deploy printers through the Print Management console's 'Deploy with Group Policy' option, which creates a 'deployed printer connection'. This works fine for staff, but when student users log on, the printers don't deploy - nothing shows up. There are no obvious errors in the Event Log either. I'm guessing this is another group policy item stopping the deployment of the connections; question is, what is it? Any idea what could stop the deployed connections from working?

I've cleared the pool, still doesn't work - any logs I can check to see what's failing?

This is the 'Notes' field on the 'Telephone' tab of the User object, right? Done that and still no change.

Sorry, would you mind clearing something else up, when I try to run the import, I get User cannot be found from Parameter name: MainTeacher Is this a problem with my AD connectivity (i.e. it can't connect to AD), or something else. I've tried various name formats, including the username, but get the same error.

Thanks, Nick, I'd just tried removing the Staff Users group (so there's nothing in there at all) and it now works perfectly. Mark this ticket 'closed - PEBKAC'.... Now to get SIMS to give me all the room data, not just two lessons for one room... -__- EDIT: Just fixed that too. You might want to mention in the Codeplex documentation that the SIMS RptDef file needs to be edited to reflect your school's IT rooms. E3 for instance here is something completely different! For some reason I thought it'd just give me everything.

I think I might have it - I believe all the rooms are being treated as read-only to all users. I put the name of an Active Directory group ('Staff Users') in the readwriteto= field in hap_config.xml for each room, is that correct?

Nothing whatsoever logged to the console, all the 'Free' fields have the following CSS class=" booked" (i.e. a class list of null/a space, and then 'booked') - that doesn't look right. When I manually replace it with 'free', I get the CSS animation, but still no event. Adding things to the StaticBookings.xml file (which previously contained nothing) also has no effect on this issue. The static bookings show up, but no other change.

Riiiiight, got it. It's simply doing nothing - no reloads, no popups, just sitting there.

Wait, so the target URL when I click on a booking field to book a room should contain a date?

The 'Overview Calendar' thing has been resolved by clearing the browser cache, however the issue with clicking on bookings remains. When I click on a booking, the URL does not change at all. However, if I try to navigate to the link target URL (as in ' https://server/HAP/bookingsystem/#A1-period2') I get: The string was not recognized as a valid DateTime. There is an unknown word starting at index 0. Any idea which string is it referring to? I get a feeling this is something borked in the booking system setup files, but we need to know which string is invalid... Thanks for your help so far

Just setting up the Booking System, and have encountered an issue: when I click on the pencil in the corner of a timetable field, absolutely nothing happens. No JS errors are logged in Firebug, just nothing. I have the same lack of response to clicking on different days in the 'Overview Calendar'. Any ideas appreciated!

It does indeed hold true for CC3 - making pretty much any change in AD save for resetting passwords runs a high risk of borking the CCx DB entry for that user.

Just to play devil's advocate: not everyone who manages a CC3/4 network made the decision to buy it, nor do they necessarily want it. They may also not have an active RM support contract, particularly if they're looking at moving to a vanilla network.

Solved! Turns out that letting Server 2012 install drivers automatically (the Class 4 ones that it recommends) doesn't work very well at all for HP LaserJet printers. You need to grab your old friend(?) the HP Universal Print Driver (which is Class 3) and use that instead.

Anyone seen this before, because it's driving me potty. Server 2012 file/print server can't print to anything (despite things looking like it went through okay), and the following ends up in the PrintService event log: Data type: RAW. Size of the spool file in bytes: 194019. Number of bytes printed: 0. Total number of pages in the document: 1. Number of pages printed: 0. Client computer: \\SERVERNAME. Win32 error code returned by the print processor: 5. Access is denied. I've tried fiddling with the permissions on C:\windows\system32\spool, tried moving the spooler directory (and rebooting the server afterwards) but no effect. Most of the info on Google seems to relate to terminal services, which has nothing to do with this. This is printing directly from the server. I hate printers. EDIT: just tried installing a printer on another 2012 box, which works fine. Will try uninstalling and reinstalling Print and Document Services and report back...

I know how you feel, we're going through that process now (not an SCCM fan though personally, we're using MDT/GPO) - looking forward to being in the position you're in when there's (slightly?) less to do!

Silly thing to check, but still: try sending an internal email but entering the full address, i.e. '[email protected]' as opposed to using Outlook's auto-suggest. Also, is mail tracking enabled on your server? If not, enable it (and perhaps Mail Transport verbose logging) and go spelunking in the logs.

I've never seen anyone able to come up with any specific examples of security problems that would reliably be prevented by having split domains. And yet I can think of many examples of headaches such a set-up would cause.

Ahhh, yeah, that makes sense.

New domain now fully functional (Exchange 2003 > 2010 migration complete, SIMS shifted over), just got to image the remaining 75% of machines now on that front. Ruckus WLAN basically working (one glitch to iron out), now to put up the rest of the APs. Only two major tasks remaining are a couple of projector/AV installs. Most of the really technical stuff is done, it's now just churning through doing the clean-up.

What does the above fix do, prevent people from changing their passwords on those particular machines? (which would be no big deal in order to prevent issues!).
