  1. I would ask the parent what mouse they use at home. If there is not a computer in the house, then i would question where they learned that there was such a thing. If it remains an issue, then i would buy a simple flat track pad, with the buttons like you would get in a laptop, and tell them to use that. Simply fitting an ergonomic mouse, for left handed people isn't going to make it any easier for the child as they grow up, as the mouse is not going to be with us much longer, as we are moving to touch screens.
  2. Did the boards come back to life? We had a couple of instances when the boards drop interactivity for a minute or two over the last few days. Be interesting to see any thoughts.
  3. Maybe try a little bit of script attached to the log off script for this user, which swaps it back. Even go as rough as VBA.
  4. Hi, we have a lot of kit that we loan to teachers and students, and are looking to use the Access IT software we use in the library, to manage whos got what etc. We now need to find a cheap way of generating barcode labels. Does anyone have any bomb proof methods, or software that generates barcodes and then prints onto small avery labels. Preferably free. Thanks in Advance
  5. we have the normal.dot templates to have Username in the footer of all office documents. this covers most printing. Printing from other apps is not always as easy though.
  6. Hi, Although processor is important, RAM is key for smart notebook. I recommend 4GB min to run smart 11 ok, and without serious lag.
  7. Thanks for the idea. Sadly, in Switzerland, Dell are expensive, but just about the only reliable supplier. We don't get the 8%VAT back over here either. The problem exists in 4 machines, these have all been rebuilt using the same image recently. We did this to try to rule out the image being the issue. The image was generated using one of the four, to ensure all drivers etc were correct, and hopefully removing any sys prep problems. We also built 2 from scratch, with image, and this also resulted in the same issues. Confused.com?
  8. Hi All Not sure how many of you run Dells in schools these days, as they're not cheap. We have them in each classroom as the teacher pcs. In 4 out of 35 rooms, we have an issue with keyboards not being recognised by windows during the startup procedure. They dont respond to any input on the log on screen (Windows 7). If you unplug, and then plug in, then all is ok, as windows recognises them as a new hid. We have flashed the bios to the latest version in line with Dells support call request, and have done the obvious like swap out keyboards, and changed the USB ports we use, all to no avail. The other USB peripherals seem unaffected. Any and all ideas welcomed Thanks all J
  9. There are apps out there that enable disc usage, and you can then drop the MP3 files into that app. You could also consider something like file explorer, which could then allow navigation to a public shared folder on your network, where the files reside. The students can then stream them directly, without having to store them, hence saving space on the iPads themselves.
  10. It's been a few years since i bought new AV kit, but one of the reasons we bought HD home user stuff, was it compatibility with most basic editing programs. If you're using a pro camera, then it often requires pro software to decode the footage. I wouldn't be surprised if you could convert the MXF to a more common format, and then use simpler tools. We used to use Serif Movie Plus, as it can be run on a fairly low end pc, has some nice tools, and we found it more stable than any other windows based video editors. That said, we did use Macs, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe CS4 for the more adventurous.
