Hi all Anyone got an updated link to the newer drivers. all links here are 404s now. I have a student with a Razor laptop with 1202 card, and it simply will not connect to our network. Same card in win 7 work fine. Win 8 or 8.1 is a no go. PITA. (Network is Cisco WPA2-Enterprise, AES and then PEAP v2 second auth) nothing special. We've applied the update to the controller to fix the handshake issue that were reported.

Check this isn't a function available in your MIS. Most will allow printing and storage as PDF, which can be locked, and if the parental e-mail is included in the student data, then it becomes automatic. I know iSAMS, WCBS, SIMS and a couple of the other larger players can all do it.

Hi all Its being rumoured that we're going to be moved away from Google Apps and Drive, which provides the backbone of our staff and student e mails, document storage, and collaboration tools. The expected platform is office 365 and one drive. This is ok in principle, but with one massive proviso. We're a BYOD school, so whilst staff have a local storage drive we can map their google drives to, there is nothing for the 230 odd students, who incidentally almost all use OSX machines. We're also concerned that shares and collaborations will be dissolved as part of the migration process. Does anyone out here have any experience, even if you decided not to follow through because of these kinds of reasons. Cheers

Bon Chance Mon Ami, I loved timetabling, but it is a rather specialised job, and not everyone was happy with my approaches. T4 and M&C was what i used first, and then T6. Once i got my head around T6, it made so much sense.

Sounds like a dodgy drive or even drive failure. If its the thick aluminium model, and you're feeling brave, crack the back off, and check the drive is clear and free of obstruction. Try inserting a disc with the back off, if you've got a clean room to run the machine in its bits. If all seems ok physically, then id suggest failure. there have been a few reports of these going home. you can often pick up replacements for not a lot of cash on ebay. Anything more than £50 is not worth it. Don't be tempted to by the apple usb superdrive though. I don't think it works on machines with built in drives.

Let me know how you get on with this. were putting in a new MIS for sept, and a good proportion of our lot struggle (yes really) with the whole 'connect to a projector' menu in win 7. Any helpful hints welcome.

We don't install SMART notebook on machines with less than 4Gb RAM, and at least a Quad core as the load times are dreadful.

I'm going to be contentious here I know, but i don't want to see the demise of VGA for a while yet. Reason, as an international school with BYOD, we have kids bring laptops and BD players etc from all over the world,and we've had hells own problems with HDMI HDCP issues from multiple region and 0 region players and disks. It's not entirely legal here to buy HDMI kit without HDCP and the fines for businesses can be massive. VGA is the one way we have round this. DVI just didn't take off in CH.

TBH on the iSAMS documentation site, there are a large number of quite thorough files, adding up to over 500 pages of stuff, just not the core manual. As I said, we can't go to iSAMS direct at the moment, so i was hopeful that someone on here might have a copy they could share?

First things first. Is there an active iTunes Account, and is the account the same on each device? Assuming that, when you plug in the iPad, for example, does it even register as available in iTunes? Assuming it is present in iTunes, check what is supposed to be synced by clicking each of the tabs Apps, Music, TV Shows, Podcasts, Books, Photos. If nothing new is due to be synced, then nothing will change on the iPad. Check this first, before doing support call to apple

Hi all We're about to have iSAMS rolled out through the group of schools we belong to. I've grabbed the manuals from the iSAMS documentation site, but there is not one for the main school manager module, and system admin tools etc, and we could do with this in hand before they walk through the door. Any ideas where we can get one, electronically preferred, since we're in CH, and since we're not supposed to go to ISAMS direct, without going through the senior bodies. cheers in advance

I have to say I think this being a one department thing does remove many of the benefits iPads are bringing to education. If you roll it out school wide, students too, then we're talking useful. Although heavily promoted by Apple, the Essa Academy in the North of the UK is showing the way the whole ecosystem approach works. They've done the iPad thing to the max, and its really working. Unfortunately there is not a whole MS ecosystem, in the same way, and since many Network bods hate Apple, its being dismissed by them as unmanageable or not worth it. I used to be be an apple hater myself, but I can now see the benefits having the iPad, iTunes U and the like. MS has nothing close. Surface hasn't made a dent, and android, whilst cheaper for hardware, doesn't have the same level of services. Things like Learn Pads are nice tools, they don't have anything like the range of apps and collaborative tools that exist for iOS. We tech bodies need to adapt. We've had to, and are about to launch iPads for all next term, after trials of 3 models, android, MS, and apple. We're a MS school, before you all ask.

The likelihood is your timetable manager has blocked May the first as a school day in the initial holiday dates of the build. It should be easy just to pop into the school calendar and open thursday, and close monday, assuming you have the correct permissions.

Hi Guys and Girls So i'm rewiring in the school theatre, because some numpty has snagged and cut the 50M VGA cable from the stage to the control booth where the projector lives. I've decided to put in a Lindy VGA faceplate and box, and got the local sparky to wire it up. Thing is. It doesn't work, and he's at a loss. Having sat down with a laptop and pinout diagrams, i've come to the conclusion is the H and V sync cables that aren't right. Thing is, as there is no common colour code for this, its proving challenging. Its made more difficult since we can't run a 5v test using a multimeter, cos we can't get the two ends close enough, as its in a permanent trunking over the roof. So question. What colour combinations have you come across. The electrician has found blue and purple and this is what he has done here, but I've found and used brown and grey elsewhere.

I think this in prep for the new licensing packages. I though 11.4 was the last version under current agreements. The site is up and running, and for the full install from USB, or network, you have to download the last full build, which was dec 2013, and then run update, i think. They haven't bothered doing a full package, and probably won't bother now.

Yes, Right click and run as Admin. So am I right in thinking the only way to get this to work is to give the user admin rights, install dropbox, and then revoke the rights afterwards? You can't install it on behalf of the user as a admin?

Installing dropbox for one of our departments. (Don't ask) I have run into an issue that must be simple to solve, but i can't think how. To install software requires local admin rights, so log in as user, install Dropbox using Local Admin credentials, but then dropbox tries to sync files to the local admins user area, despite being directed to the network drive for the specified user. It also only runs for the local admin user, and refuses to run for the standard user. Its Win 7/server 2008 without roaming profiles. What am I missing?

Defo a problem with the file. I use a mac all the time for video edits, as it handles almost every file i throw at it. Windows based software often refuses, although Serif is quite good for handling files.

After looking at windows surface, Android and Apple, we're doing the Apple route. Some hate them, some love them, but from a management perspective, and a teaching and learning one too, its just far simpler. There are loads more apps, all tested to see if they work on the device, VPP is ready for UK (Not us in CH yet) and a training program which is led by teachers in schools already using them.

I did think it would be challenging to do it this way, but apparently we can't have any more than a handful of staff together at the same time. I have a further complication. We don't have IT suites, as we're a you must BYOD for the students so staff just use the computers in the classrooms on the IWBs.

Yeah. I'm trying to write policy and procedure for those now, but its proving quite difficult to cover all the bases and make sure it will get the data as water tight as possible.

The old system is not really a unified whole. Academic data is collected in the same place as reports are written, but there is currently no attendance or behaviour data kept. Its an in house developed 'system' with the developer no longer supporting anything except faults for the next 18 months, then nothing.

Hi all, Over the next few months we'll be rolling out a new MIS to the classroom teachers. They've never had access before, so effectively we have to treat them as MIS virgins. My question is this. In which order should we be asking them to begin using the classroom based features. My idea is below Attendance (Both tutorials lessons and boarding house) Behaviour, rewards and sanctions Markbooks (A record of assessments made during the half term) Grading Periods (A single grade for the entire half term) Academic Reporting (Written reports to parents including the grading period data) Does this sound about right? Any alternatives views? Thanks in advance.
