  1. ^ | | This will save you a lot of hassle and teachers will have a better experience.
  2. I heard rumours that there was going to be a second one, and no its not an April fool.
  3. We have been able to integrate sims and moodle. If a teacher logs into moodle, their timetable is avaliable and any cover lessons they have for the week.
  4. Hi Have a look here. Integrate Moodle, LDAP and SIMS.net - MoodleDocs I'm currently in the process of rewriting part of it. so it's subject to change.
  5. It probability did, but my point was how many LEA's actually explore alternatives before opting for a Microsoft solution?
  6. why do LEA has this unholy reliance on Microsoft, it seems when ever a project is thought of it is naturally assumed that it will have to be based on microsoft software. Projects need to sustainable and using Microsoft software, locks you into continuous payments (upgrades etc) for the life time of the project excluding support. I wish LEA's would look at open source alternatives a lot more as they can offer better value in most projects. one example just removing the need for Microsoft cals would save 1000's if not 100,000's pounds.
  7. sounds like how drupal is run, you own the brand but the software is free.
  8. hi, I have couple of questions, before i can offer an answer. How fast is your schools internet connection? how large is your current moodle install? Db and files? Do you know the rate space is used up?
  9. i was going to have to do that but found a hotel for £19, i will to foot the bill for an extra night to allow for a lie in.
  10. I've booked into a travel lodge 5 miles down the road for £19. I'll be travelling up Monday night, so wont be able to do monday drinks. Is there drinks Tuesday night?
  11. AFAIK, it was muted that sims diary will be integrated with Microsoft Exchange at some point. not sure when or how.
  12. Hi Richard, Thanks for that, unfortunately i don't have access to it but have put in a request with our lea for it.
  13. Thanks Richard, In capita support what menu route are you taking to get the documentation?
  14. Yeah, we have got this direct from capita. Capita's documentation is covered by the NDA not the program that is created, if it was then the company would not be able to release it. even a pointer in the right direction would be helpful using an example on a website which implements similar system..
  15. @matt40uk The business objects are only as good as the documentation, i would use the business objects but i don't have any implementation/usage documentation. I have all the information about whatt dll do what but not how to get the information out of them. @rpwillis This is a bit cheeky, but any change you could post a hello world program on how to pull information from sims through the business object(dlls) not the command report tool?
  16. @Gdn, i am probably a useful guy to know, i have done exactly what you are doing, i have built modules for Moodle that pull information from SIMS.net via sql views. The key is to get your head round the relationships in the db, it's hard as it not a normalised database. if you let me know what info your trying to get out, i my have already created the views. As for support, we are supported by our lea and capita, we have an agreement in place that if we break it, we pay to fix it. Capita prefer to people to use there business objects but this is not possible if your not on a windows platform.
  17. it see what you mean about the pic, she was just a tad bit slow.
  18. I have voted for it.
  19. It allows students and staff to view their timetable in moodle.
  20. I have update the SIMS.net Timetable Block for Moodle. Change log:- FIXED: Block not installing required views on SQL Server 2005. ADDED: Block will remove required views when the clock is uninstalled from moodle.
  21. what you could do it export a list of all the students and all the classes using the report generator to export to excel, then on a second sheet use a vlookup to look for the group of that column and set a value.
  22. hi andy, what do you need to do with the information? i ask as if you only want to look at the information and not manipulate it you can do this in a report using analysis as the output.
  23. i would agree with most of what csrimmer is saying. The biggest issue you will have is training, you need to have a lot of training sessions booked to help staff. When are you looking at moving? if it is for September good look, we moved from cmis to sims.net the whole process was a head ache as the time frame was small. the biggest and most information thing is what to do with the old system, are you going to move all the historical data over? you will still need to keep your old system going for information requests as you wont be able to move over student that have left.
  24. @addid to force the sql view generation you will nee to increment a number. in block_simstimetable.php there is a version number if you increment the last digit by one and then do the same in the db\upgrade.php in the if statement, this will force the sql view to be created. i will look into the auto install function.
