SIMS Timetable Module for Moodle

Hi hightower, when did you download the module? as there have been many updates. The main reason for it not working is the separator, could you please post an example of the output of the sql view. -
This statement is very interesting for a number of reasons. What cLc functionality will be avaliable? If it's connecting schools together then moodle sites can do this. Will the cost of the connectors be equivalent to the cost of uniservity?

There isn't a BECTA list of approved VLE's, it's a BECTA list of approved suppliers of VLE's. Moodle didn't feature due to the companies supporting it not qualifying. If VLE's were approved on features and usability moodle would be street ahead of the pack.

thanks, i think of putting a non-commercial licence on my sims.net moodle module so to stop uniservity benefiting from my work, but not affecting schools use.

You are i need to changes these lines $parts = explode($periodseperator, $row['period_name']); $lessons[$periods[$parts['1']]][$days[$parts['0']]] = $row['class_name']; $rooms[$periods[$parts['1']]][$days[$parts['0']]] = $row['room_name']; $teachers[$periods[$parts['1']]][$days[$parts['0']]] = $row['staff_initials']; to this $parts = explode($periodseperator, $row['period_name']); if (($no_weeks > 1) && (strpos($parts['0'],$no_weeks)=== true)) { $period = $parts['1'] +(count($periods) +1); } else { $period = $parts['1']; } $lessons[$periods[$period]][$days[$parts['0']]] = $row['class_name']; $rooms[$periods[$period]][$days[$parts['0']]] = $row['room_name']; $teachers[$periods[$period]][$days[$parts['0']]] = $row['staff_initials']; this will take into account $parts[0]='2Mon' $parts[1]='1' $lessons[$periods['1']+][$days['2Mon']] = $lessons[1][1] $lessons[1][1] = 'Ma' should now become $parts[0]='2Mon' $parts[1]='1' offset = (count($periods) +1); $lessons[$periods['1'+[offset]]][$days['2Mon']] = $lessons[1][1] $lessons[10][1] = 'Ma' -
with this all in mind, I believe Paul LeFevre, e-learning co-ordinator of East Sussex gave a Best Practise Seminar on Flexible Learning in East Sussex at BETT.

I have fixed this and update the zip file -
If that's the case there should be a difference in cost, as it hasn't cost uniservity anything to develop it. Also will schools be able to add there own modules? i doubt uniservity could handle schools moving from in house to hosted as most users moodles are in the tens of gigs of data. I thought the original plan was for county to have the equipment to host SLG and the county wide VLE, if uniservity are now going to use moodle, county have effectively wasted hundreds of thousands pounds when they could have got a good developer in at £50,000 instead of spending £300,000ish on uniservity. this is going to be an interesting network managers meeting in feb.

SIMS Timetable Module for Moodle
penfold_99 replied to Hightower's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Hi Gatt, In the latest version of the module links the course name to the moodle course. I will upload this tomorrow when i get back into work. For the course page there is a link in the top left hand corner for participants, this will list everyone on the course. Also the updated version reduces the configuration burden for users, could you test and see if it works out of the box? -
SIMS Timetable Module for Moodle
penfold_99 replied to Hightower's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Hi Apeo, I have re-written the module to support a 2 week timetable, I have also simplified the setup. Could you please test the new version to see if it supports your config out the box? All that has changed is the view.php file in the mod folder. the link for the name file is that same as the old one on this moodle page Integrate Moodle, LDAP and SIMS.net - MoodleDocs -
So uniservity has realised they had a shit product and have scrapped it and gone with moodle? This will be interesting because of the licensing! If they have done this there will be fight from schools who currently have moodle to get a refund.

Is BES needed only if you want to connect to exchange server for email?

Hi Crispin, I've had a quick read of your report, i have seen a massive area of interoperability you have missed and thats OS interoperability. Currently the majority of schools use a windows based MIS, due to the monopolistic requirements to run the MIS, true interoperability will never be possible. Interoperability lower the TCO but when you are forced to purchase a closed proprietary OS to run a MIS it's counter-intuitive. for example to run sims.net you need to have BOUGHT the following. Windows XP Windows Server 2003 Windows SQL Server 2005 Windows Server and SQL Cals Microsoft Office 2003 to have Sims.net learning Gateway Microsoft Sharepoint Server There is probably more that i have missed. But you can see even with application Interoperability you are still forced to purchase an OS. Having an monopoly use tools from another monopoly the bigger loser is the school as free choice is no longer an option. As you can see Application Interoperability to only a piece of the puzzle. A bigger challenge is OS Intero
