  1. The reason for going fibre to begin with is we are able to afford it. We're looking to maximise speed as we will be using it heavily for virtualisation and citirix. With fibre it will be completely separate from our network.
  2. you could try cute ftp writer is free, and should be able to work in the way your wanting, just treat it like a normal printer
  3. Full blown Fibre attached SCSI. We will be running KVM Virtualisation as red hat has killed support for Xen adn the bonus it's free. We will need a sas/sata split as we will use sata for storage and sas to run the vm images off. We will be backing up the new san to our old nas
  4. We're trying to do a number of things consolidate data as were nearing 3 tb of stuff. virtualisation so the images need run off the san.
  5. HI All, I was wondering if it would be possible for the collective hiv mind of edugeek to help us out with a possible implementation of a san. Has anyone implemented a san in there school? We looking to link the san to all our servers and ibm blade centre this will be done via fibre channel card and a fibre switch. What is the best solution for running the servers all off the san or having a local disk ruuning the os and mount the san windows/linux etc? Does any one have a picture so i can visualise how everything fit together? Thanks for your help in advance
  6. I think in the states they operate with a rolle split, where there is a head to run the physical school and and a head to run the teaching and learning. Most SMT if picked up and put in a business wouldn't have a clue what to do so why should they be able to run a school with a multi million pound budget. Do to a lack of business thinking SMT can waste a massive amount of the school budget. If the government wanted to reduce the spending in schools, they should stipulate that there is business manager with commercial background in every school and when things are purchase people provide a business case.
  7. yes i know that but 277 and 291 look like the same job. One is ICT/SIMS Manager and the other SIMS Manager Only which will change the pay boundaries and also responsibilities.
  8. Would this be the same post as 277 on your website?
  9. sod changing the wording, more like sort out a decent wage and the certification will follow anyway.
  10. You can include "capita sims.net" in that list i am using a bit of poetic licence as i'm not counting the "." as it's not a letter
  11. hi, I'm trying to follow what your trying to do, but i think your going about it a bit backwards. You can find out was the driver letter the script is being run from using this. drive = objFSO.GetDriveName(Wscript.ScriptFullName) The instead of shelling out to robo copy, you can use objFSO.CopyFolder locationA locationB is the script running or erroring out?
  12. good going but unless it's more than 25K is not worth is as the rail season ticket is something line 3 grand + a year
  13. the question to ask is why is everyone leaving?
  14. Would be helpfully to have some back ground information on the schools, as currently is look like it has been golden handshaked already.
  15. Make's a change for a school in east sussex to offer half descent pay. Or have they given the senior ict techician network manager responsibility with out the pay?
  16. you can use logmein.com and it's free.
  17. I've told you once i'm not role playing as the lone ranger even if that is silver, Tonto, i mean Ric!!
  18. AD integration isn't really an issue with the setup you have described as you as long as you local firewall you can exposed the SSL Ldap port for Active Directory and this will allow the remote site to authenticate users.
  19. we had alice but we're now moving to oliver.
  20. Hi Alan, Have you been asked by mike freeman to go and work for him? Ian
  21. If you are installing software when a users login then it would but not if you where doing it when the computers was booting.
  22. Everyone only includes users not computers, that why a the domain computers group needs access
  23. If you have set it to install before a user logs in you need to add domain computers group right on the share and folder.
  24. kesomir, i think you should avoid trying to re-invent the wheel but trying to replace moodle. We have been able to fully integrate moodle with sims and active directory. So when a user logs in to moodle is pulls their course membership from sims. we can help replicate this with your system. Also i would be best to release the whole of Academis open source include sub modules and use the support stream as the revenue stream.
