  1. Am I the only one who can't view the video?
  2. Sorry if these are silly questions; How have you setup your applications? I assume you're using Solus to receive the update in the first place? At which point how are you getting hold of the install files? - I can only see setup files dating back before Solus was in-use.
  3. Glad it wasn't missed
  4. Mac BookPro 2018 i9, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD - BYOD Samsung U28D590 4k external screen. OS Mojave with VMs for Win Server 2016 image for day to day admin that I can't do within OSX, Ubuntu Server and some other bits.
  5. Have you spoken to your network provider or are you looking to offer it for all?
  6. We’re using 49 UniFi video cameras back to a windows host. All on a dedicated VLAN cameras record on motion simple.
  7. They do until you want to use them as non-personal devices So I would agree to a point. The initial training is more like an on boarding process to ensure that you start off from the best foot and aren't left not knowing what's possible to lock down or not. To be clear we've only paid for the iOS 'Jump Start' (the initial training). For our iMacs we've outsourced it to our reseller to manage as I couldn't justify the significantly higher jump start cost the licenses didn't make any difference.
  8. I was trying to be a little gentler but that's what I was thinking As an example we had a MacMini dedicated to managing 20 iMacs after the forth time of rebuilding Profile Manager due to some unexplainable issues I gave up and invested in an MDM system. We're now managing our 100+ iMacs, 1,300 iPads via Jamf Pro.
  9. Have you given the server a URL that's accessible from outside of the school and did you use that to enrol the iPads? As a further piece of advice try and use something other than Profile Manager. We had no end of issues getting it to work reliably.
  10. What are you hoping to achieve by implementing the SLAs and KPIs? By the sounds of it the IT staff are employed by the school, at which point what is the motivation from their point-of-view to 'perform'. In a support role within a for profit firm it would be a bonus or career progression. Most schools have limited scope for career progression so its of limited value and more likely to put the backs up of the current incumbent (unless that is the intention). You also need to consider how you are going to track these things can the current Helpdesk solution provide you with these metrics? That having been said I would look at SLAs based around number of people affected. KPI look at specialisation of the roles within the team and knowledge sharing.
  11. Essentially so did we, having burnt hours on it we're now Jamf customers.
  12. Having spent many hours fighting with Profile Manager do yourself a favour and get a different system. We’ve tried managing macs and iPads and each time profile manager has broken in some unexplainable way either just sits there with tasks pending not talking to the devices or random issues with as you’ve found devices refusing to connect. I found someone suggesting that Profile Manager was apples proof of concept for testing the managing of devices. Sorry I realise that this doesn’t answer your question but I hope it saves your sanity.
  13. Likewise across our trust (11 schools) A1 for all.
  14. If you’ve got the OneDrive for Business App then you should be able to set it up to sync the folder your putting the report into. What are you hoping to achieve?
  15. Is pretty much what I was thinking. Although I was going to use an ESP8266
  16. Its not worth the subscription cost
  17. We use PAYG mobiles - the idea is the invigilator makes a call (doesn't say anything) the person on the other end will confirm that they are on their way. The invigilators don't seam to be able to cope with the not saying anything! I was considering something like an Amazon dash button style push button for help but haven't found the time to build it or the right product to re-purpose.
  18. Almost looks too good to be true - which makes me nervous but I'm not going to knock it until I've tried it
  19. Mapping network drives isn't as neat as it is on Windows
  20. Could you do this with an email scheduled from another source?
  21. I assume you're referring to the server its shared from appearing in the side bar of the Finder app. You can switch off 'Connected Servers' displaying in the side bar (going into Preferences in Finder> Side bar tab). I would question if/why is this an issue? As long as the security permissions are set correctly then he shouldn't be able to get to anything he should be able to get to.
  22. Currently: BT FTTC connection into the house dumped the home hub and replaced with Ubiquiti USG and DrayTek Vigor 130 modem - the BT home hub even with WiFi disabled would on occasion refuse to serve some clients and never consistently the same thing! Ubiquiti Nano - currently balanced on a shelf waiting for wiring to get up to the loft to mount it on the ceiling upstairs. Most items wirelessly connected with the exception of TV in living room, MacMini acting as a media centre with external HDDs hung off it for backup etc & RaspberryPi running HomeAssistant. Plan: Shortly to have the back of the garage turned into downstairs toilet and utility room. Plan to relocate the router and most of the gear into the over-head space above the (shortly to be built) downstairs toilet, as the headspace will allow for a false ceiling and then an area 2.4m long 1m wide and around 0.9m high. At the same point run cat6 to certain key points around the house; living room TV, office, spare data cabling pulled for the bedrooms. Would eventually like to get some form of 'proper NAS' but at the moment a pair of 8TB external HDDs mirrored will have to do. Backups of my laptop happen at home as mentioned above and an other disk on my desk at work to act as the offsite backup.
  23. I'm sure I'm missing something here but I'm licensed for 'Office 365 A1 Plus for faculty' and can use Word for iPad without issue.
  24. Easiest way would be to plug a screen keyboard and mouse. Longer term, assuming your not using a Mac, would be to use VNC to remotely administer it. It can authenticate users but probably isn’t if integrated with AD. It’s probably just being used to push out settings to the iMacs. Updates and software could be via Apple Remote Desktop (an app running on the server). Pretty much just user authentication. As ever most of this is a guess based on the way I’ve seen it setup in different places. That doesn’t mean to say that it’s setup like that. Best of luck 🤨
  25. We've documented it as part of our policies and we're now starting to look at this across our 11 school MAT.
