  1. There is no right or wrong, its what suits your school. Teachers have set classrooms here so its ideal for desktops as they aren't moving around. We had a new member of staff from a school where they use laptops and hot desk who insists on using his laptop as its on and ready when they start the day. IF we had to hot desk then we would have to make sure we had a small supply of spare laptops and docking stations as even teachers are human and can forget their device
  2. Cloud for data (i know but it is gradually filtering through to them)
  3. If your school only relies on screen notifications what happens to staff who are not near a screen such as catering, site and sports staff?
  4. +1 for BODET, just upgraded our old bell system. At my previous school which had had actual bomb events and people climbing in we used the bell system to do alerts as there were plenty of people who weren't in offices etc..
  5. Hi, I've created a Intra/Extranet using SharePoint, Hub Site for navigation. Each faculty has its own area. I've then let them put the data where they want based on how they want their sites to look. We tried having it all in one Document Library but it didn't work well with some of the web parts that they wanted to use as it was a bit fiddly for them. Letting each faculty choose where they store the data has worked so much better. Essentially I'm giving them ownership of their teaching data rather than IT dictating where it is located.
  6. Hi, currently when a pupil in school wants to print from OneDrive it asks them to Open PDF then downloads the file to I presume a location on the C: that is blocked by our system. So can I change the default download location in the back end of O365 or is there some other setting that needs changing as we want to move more resources onto SharePoint but currently pupils are unable to print directly to a printer (set as default).

  14. I'm not sure of the top of my head the allowed file name length but avoid to many sub folders and long file names as these cannot be read. Had this with those stupid DVD's that have PDF's for subjects where the folders and file names are full descriptions.
  15. +1 for sharepoint library over OneDrive.
  16. Also using Sharepoint you can make it accessible externally without having to open ports etc..
  17. Hi, if you are O365 then Sharepoint is your friend. You can create a quick and easy Intranet in no time. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/plan-intranet https://sharepointmaven.com/sharepoint-intranet/
  18. Chetham’s is seeking an IT Technician to join the internationally renowned specialist music school located in city centre Manchester. Chetham’s is a magical place, home to the UK’s largest specialist music school, the oldest library in the English speaking world and a world-class concert venue all in the heart of Manchester. https://chethamsschoolofmusic.com/job-vacancies/
  19. Rather than Teams we created a Sharepoint Hub Site to act as our Intranet with sites hanging off for faculties/departments. That way we can take advantage of web parts for things like news and events plus recent files. All of the staff drive was migrated to a document library that has a link to it on the navigation bar. Faculty's also have a link direct to their resources. Faculties have their own page and can edit things like web parts for links to web resources etc.. We have also done this for pupils where faculties have a pupil page with links, news, events and resources. Advantages of Hub sites are branding and navigation.
