  1. Hi everyone, I’m currently working on setting up our school Wi-Fi and I’m running into some issues. I’d appreciate any advice you can offer. We’re using a Ruckus VSZ system with CloudPath for onboarding, but I’m not happy with the costs and complexity of CloudPath. I’ve been testing an Aruba AP, but I’m hitting similar roadblocks as we did with VSZ before we got CloudPath. Here’s what I’m looking for in terms of Wi-Fi networks: WifiPSK – This is for admin use only, essentially like plugging an Ethernet cable into the network. WifiUsers – This is for staff and students. I want them to authenticate and have the same web access they’d get on a domain PC (with the same filters and restrictions). WifiGuests – This is for visitors. I need a simple login system (sponsor or social login) that lets us log email addresses for duty-of-care purposes. For our system, other than the VSZ or test Aruba AP, we have Windows 2022 AD servers (using LDAP or RADIUS via NPS) and everything goes out through a Sophos XGS firewall. At the moment, I can get a user to authenticate via NPS, and I can see their username passed to the Aruba controller, but Sophos sees them as an anonymous user and blocks them. Can anyone point out what I might be missing or any suggestions to fix this? Thanks in advance for your help!
  2. Hi guys, I'm trying to omit a few folders from OneDrive sync but am getting the error: "can't stop syncing folder the folder you tried to unselect contains the windows documents folder." The only reason I can see for that is the Desktop and Pictures folders are nested under the main Documents folder. IE: Documents: C:\Users\user\OneDrive Desktop: C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Desktop Music: C:\Users\user\OneDrive\Music I've got folder redirection configured via a GPO to follow the user profile location, is that not the way I should be doing it? Worried about making a change at this stage as I've got about 2300 users set up in the way above.
  3. Hi, I've got PaxtonNet2 access control and I want to build a trigger action to execute a vbs script to send out a lockdown alert. The problem is Net2 will only allow a trigger to execute an exe, it doesn't allow scripts, batch files etc - just exe. I've tried cscript.exe scriptname.vbs but I can't even send command line switches. So it's quite basic but all I've got to work with. Anyone know how I could easily wrap this code into a single executable that will run without user interaction?
  4. Yeah, so we've got 3 CA accounts for 3 different subjects. We log the room on as that account and they get a pop up to auth, which then re-maps H: drive etc. Though it was a way to save time and it kinda works, just this issue with OneDrive making me paranoid.
  5. I need to for the user to get an Office licence though. However I only assign that group Office - no SharePoint or Exchange etc so they don't have a OneDrive folder. The local machine just assumes they do and creates on by default in c:\users\{username} Problem there is, as they all use the same username for a specific ca, they could use that location to share files. Incredibly unlikely, but possible and we all know how quickly exams officers jump on us if anything goes slightly wrong.
  6. Hullo! So I probably over think this but I create a controlled assessment AD user for every specific subject that needs one. When that account logs on, it asks for the user to login via a PowerShell form, then creates a home area for them and maps to a shared area specific to that assessment. Works well and means there's a place staff can drop files and access the students work. The only issue is while they can't get online, the account does get a local OneDrive folder meaning they could save there and another user potentially access the files. Any idea how to get around that? My, probably horrible, script attached! controlledAssessments.ps1
  7. Hullo. So, bought this a week or two ago and I just cannot wrap my head around how anti user the whole deployment of the damn this is. Unless I'm really missing a trick. Apparently we have to package up the MSI with 3 other files and deploy via AD. I'm trying to do this via SCCM, with a package, and all the files they tell me I need. Yet we're stuck on a trial licence because I've not deployed it properly? Why would the client need configuration files anyway, sure you'd just point it to the server and it configures itself? Has anyone successfully deployed this using SCCM that could hold my hand as it's winding me up no end.
  8. MailTip is a great solution! I like that and I've got Salamander so they can script that for me. Think you're right about the potential issues, I also think a lot of staff struggle with the naming convention of student accounts so losing them from the address book would be a real pain. I think I'll also get staff display names set to J Bloggs instead of Joe Bloggs to help make that distinction.
  9. Urgh so I've had an issue where a member of staff has added a student into an email chain as they have the same name as a staff member. I've now been asked to remove students from the Global Address list and while I've managed to create a new one using Powershell, I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it default and remove the old one. Any ideas? This is what I've got so far: New-GlobalAddressList -Name "School Default GAL" -RecipientFilter "DistinguishedName -eq '%OU=Staff%'"
  10. We've got Net 2 as well, I was hoping to do something with workflows where a button could trigger a script to send a powershell to all workstations but I couldn't figure a way to do that securely.
  11. We've got 3CX and could do this but classrooms don't have phones so it wouldn't really work. It needs to literally interrupt the lesson if possible. - - - Updated - - - We've got 3CX and could do this but classrooms don't have phones so it wouldn't really work. 12. Well if you've got the cash, go for SnapComms - I was really impressed with it but we'd be looking at 6.5k PA for our staff workstations which is just far too much for something we'll (hopefully) only ever use for drills.
  13. Hi, I'm trying to find a lightweight, simple to use and reliable emergency alert system for a school. I've tested NetSupport Notify (far too limited) and SnapComms (amazing but way too expensive). Got a budget of about £2,000 per year and all we're after is a way a group of users can login (ideally with 365 to speed it up), choose from a handful few shared/pre-made templates and have an unskippable message appear on all 130 or so staff computers (all screens if they have multiple). It's one of those things we may never actually use, hence why the heads reluctant to pay the 16k or so SnapComms would have cost. Any recomendations? I was toying with doing something clever with PowerShell but I'd prefer an off the shelf to make sure it will work if it's ever needed.
