  1. Hi, boarding school here with quite a few pupils based in China. We host onsite as web server that handles student information that is also available externally. I am told that our Chinese pupils are unable to access it as it is blocked by China. If this is true does anyone know if it is possible and how you do it for it to be available in China?
  2. Not sure what you mean by exclusion? When i worked in the state sector in a inner city school we had excellent provision for those pupils who were excluded from the mainstream but included in the school due to their behaviour. In the private (fee paying) school that I work in now you don't find the behaviour of the other school so do not need the same facilities. Now if you mean provision for special needs then in my current school we have 4 dedicated teachers (not TA's) who do one to one lessons for the pupils with learning difficulties.
  3. A necessary evil?
  4. Interesting, Teams dose seem to be more orientated to secondary pupils IMO. @JATSO our moodle remains the domain of just two teachers who use it but aren't interested in its upkeep. I've looked at what they do and it can be done in Teams but they are just set in their ways.
  5. You want to begin with a communications site not a team site. A communication site is the recommended site for an intranet.

  8. Hi, anyone using WCBS's hosted service for PASS? If so do you recommend it over a on prem setup. COVID-19 ha pushed this in to the agenda for going 'cloud'.
  9. Anyone remember this one from the 70's (apologies to 80% of you) Is it prophetic?
  10. Hi Katy, I thought I did but maybe hadn't! However when doing this I then had additional issues but the power of Google and no interruptions and I finally got it working Thanks to everyone for your help

  13. I've seen some posts from Teachers leaders talking about using VLE's but wonder if they are confused and view something like Teams as being a VLE. We have Moodle but as far as I know only two teachers use it.
  14. Hi, just an idle thought but is the current pandemic going to bring back to the forefront of education the VLE (if it ever went away?) Any thoughts for or against would be good to know.
  15. We had this with a member of staff who cc'd themselves on all emails to there personal email (don't ask) then their address got propagated out into our email environment by people clicking reply all. Apparently this removes the address vi power-shell Set-Mailuser – Identity “[email protected]” –HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true Set-MailContact – Identity “[email protected]” –HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true
  16. I'm begging to think that for one to one music tuition with all the variation in sound etc that Teams may not be the future (but we may have to make do)
  17. Hi, we aim to provide one to one music tuition and were hoping to use Teams to do so as it is all withing the schools IT system and thus there will be a record of time, place and attendees etc.. Unfortunately our music tutors are saying that the audio/video provided via a Teams meeting is not as good as that provided by Zoom or other video platforms. For instance they can not fine tune the microphones etc.. I relies that Teams is probably the best medium for delivering one to one music tuition but the general feeling is that by using something like we could open ourselves up to safeguarding issues in the future. Is it possible to improve the audio/video in the back end or does it improve if you move from Basic Free to something like Education E5?
  18. I had an issue where users were getting black screens. One finally said it came up with a disc full message. Had to go in the back end of the server and delete old UVHD hard disk image files using a tool called Sidder. Of course this may not be your problem
  19. One to One is essential as this is music tuition (we are specialist in that area) and they must be able to see each other to correct stance and action and stuff.
  20. True but how truthful are they. Guess its wait and see and any information from any source can be used.
  21. Hi, we want to have one to one music lessons where the tutor and pupil have a video lesson through Teams. Is it possible does anyone know to do the following? Can we set it so that only the owners of a Team can record an audio or video call in a Team meeting? Is it possible to lock down the call functionality so only staff can initiate calls to students and not vice versa i.e. students can receive calls but not make them; staff can make and receive calls? Any pointers would be appreciated
  22. In my mind and I could be wrong can you trust the Chinese to paint a true picture? OK lets not discount what they ay but maybe look more to what is happening in Europe?
  23. With TeamViewer watch out for the proxy gotcha - on some ISP's the user will need to add the google DNS settings in the adaptor otherwise it wont work. How long can you get away with the personal version before they twig?
  24. Net Support were offering extended trial but it looked a bit of a Faff
  25. Only my boss has my number, he has his own ring tone. As im a miserable unsociable swine (Network Manager to you and me) I only answer to people in my address book and most have their own ring tone. I will not be answering any other calls - as usual I suppose. My out of office message on my work phone says email my school email address and I monitor it during the day at intervals and use remote access to do anything I need. Thats enough in my book. If they had given me a work phone then I would answer that in office hours. Otherwise its off. I would check email say once in the evening just in case. I think that is more than reasonable
