You know you work in a $Type-of school when...

You know you work in a posh school when the Master in charge of Fishing comes last in a carp fishing match last night with 16 students -
CCTV is literally buy the cameras and install the controller software on the platform of your choice. Adopt the camera via the web based software, set the picture quality and motion detect zones and away you go. https://www.ubnt.com/download/unifi-video I purchase all my Unifi kit through MS Distribution but other suppliers are also available. https://www.msdist.co.uk/ubiquiti

On a network with no WSUS Whos on 1803?
AJWhite1970 replied to ReverentCreature's topic in Windows 10
Was just going to say the free version of PDQ Inventory does this and lots more without the bloatware/nagware of Spiceworks for example but was beaten to it -
In a word, yes. I have three 16 port SPF+ switches as the core, 20 48 port non POE SPF+ switches linked at 10gb and 20 24 port POE switches that replaced an old procurve infrastructure last summer and the performance enhancement is ten fold. Add in the free management software and couple in the 50 AP's and 20 CCTV cameras I also have as well as two airbeam bridges to remote buildings at 450mb speeds and you can safely say I've gone all in with Uniquiti this year and not regretted a second.

Google Chrome - Roaming User Data (Bookmarks etc)
AJWhite1970 replied to Davida1992's topic in Windows 10
Redirecting the chrome profile to the users homedrive "c:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --disable-logging --disable-ipv6 --proxy-pac-url="http://10.4.4.23/proxy.pac" --user-data-dir="r:\Chrome\User Data" -
Google Chrome - Roaming User Data (Bookmarks etc)
AJWhite1970 replied to Davida1992's topic in Windows 10
We do this and it works fine BUT.... Chrome does not play nice if the same user is logged in twice and both sessions have Chrome open. Only the first PC will open Chrome, the second can't as the profile files are locked. My users have got used to it. Or I've really screwed something up somewhere One of the two -
On the AC-Gen2 if you manually set the distance the two dishes are apart by putting in the two long/lat coordinates it automagically sets the channel width and signal power accordingly which is a good starting point. Then you use the alignment tools in the Air OS to tweak to find stable settings.

+1 for the AC-Gen2. I've got a link between buildings (two sides of a main road) and the link distance is 82m with a speed of 650mb and it's never missed a beat. You would struggle to know you weren't on the end of 1gb fibre!! Next project for me is a 860m link up to the sports pavilion to enable wifi at the playing fields

You know you work in a posh/well behaved school when the Master in charge of Chess does an audit of the 16 chess sets before a tournament and not a single piece is missing despite them being sat on a shelf in a classroom for six months and constantly used unsupervised by the boys at break times -
I was driving full size steam trains before I could drive a car

OK so I'm being a numpty. Just gone to install options on a Win 7 computer (SIMS\Setups\SIMSInfrastructureSetup.exe and only select SIMS Workstation Components) but it still won't run options after the BDE has been installed. I can't find my notes but I'm sure there was another step I've forgotten about over time? Anyone care to put me out of my misery? Ta Andrew

Can anyone recommend any third party software that would add-on to AD and a) Alert the user in countdown steps when their password is to expire b) Guide the user as to why their password isn't strong enough if they enter a weak one I've found a few hardcore big business ones but wondered if anyone had used something more suitable both in costs and hand holding for teachers Cheers Andrew

And me, unless you suffer from it, no one appreciates quite how painful it is, best I can describe it is constantly walking on drawing pins. Mine was in my left foot after I badly broke my right foot and was caused by walking off balance. Took 18 months to go, I tried everything and eventually I had an insole made for my shoe to tip me forwards again and take the pressure off my left instep. Been pain free for about a year now. As much as you don't want to hear this, there are no short cuts you can take to make it go away other than proper rest and strengthening exercises. A hardcore runner friend of mine had steroid injections to try and alleviate the pain of hers, all it did was mask the pain and she ended up having surgery and 2 years off....

As a hardcore Queen fan I've been following the trials and tribulations of the making of this and I'm still not sure if I want to go see it or not....

I'm rolling it out this summer so have had the luxury of sitting back and letting everyone toil with it first but I've decided that Windows 10 Edu 1709 is rock solid stable with my image and that's what I'll be going with. Not had much luck with 1803 yet, too many bugs and BSOD to consider it releasable to the great unwashed...

Had a Fitbit but a bit like Triggers broom, had the strap replaced three times and the screen once. Changed to a Garmin Vivo Active and love it, bomb proof with an impressive battery life.

You know you work in a posh school when Domino's don't even question delivering to the sixth form study room at 3pm You know you work in a posh school when on a non uniform day they just all look both wrong and uncomfortable out of their usual suits You know you work in a posh school when 1000 boys walk past the still water fountain in the cathedral and not one of them touches it You know you work in a rural school when the Head Boy exercises his right to tether livestock on the Head Masters lawn on his last ever day You know you work in a rural area when during the snow one of the students was the one who cleared the track down to your farm on his dads tractor so you could get out to the horses -
A free trial of flash start cloud filtering would get you out of a short term hole. They were at BETT this year and I'm helping them with their release of their Cloud Box product to the UK market later this year ( I'm just a school on the alpha release, not associated with them in any way) http://www.flashstart.com

There is a 747-200SP based at Bournemouth still in active (private) service, still makes me look when it goes over. VP-BAT for the plane spotters. The Qatar family that owns it are looking to sell it, they also have a 747-800 at Bournemouth that is their usual runaround these days. I was also lucky enough to be at the end of the runway at Bournemouth when concord visited many moons ago
