  1. Could be a broken network card in the printer - we have had them before. The are usually just a daughter-board that can be replaced
  2. We have 3 basic Nokia phones which are bookable on our resources/room booking system which staff can use for trip. They are all on a contract as we found remembering to top them up was becoming a pain.
  3. Ruckdiddlyuckus here - had it for 3 years now and it has worked faultlessly. Not the cheapest I'm sure but very flexible
  4. I was with Plusnet last year and they were fine. I moved to John Lewis fibre broadband when the Plusnet contract end and they've been fine too. Oh and John Lewis broadband is managed by ..... Plusnet!
  5. They have contacted us previously about supporting it and I'm waiting on a call back to discuss it. Can I ask what sort of money it costs you?
  6. Yes upgrades and maintenance mainly. I think we are capable of maintaining it ourselves but I am not sure about the SIMS link. Suffice to say we definitely won't be getting them to support it at those prices!
  7. Its so funny to read - the grammar is just so bad that its good! What is a file department and who is Wily?
  8. Hi All We have a Moodle server that was provided by a well known company that shall remain nameless at the moment, and which had a 3 year maintenance contract. This contract is due to expire shortly (they claim it already has, but thats another matter). I have had a quote from them to renew this and for one year the cost is £5000 and for three years its £13000. These prices exclude VAT but do include a discount! After I re-hinged my jaw, I decided I need to either look for alternative support providers or do it ourselves. With that in mind I wondered if you folks have any advice/recommendations. I should add that this companies Moodle offering includes an add on that acts as a parent portal, but which in fact has never been used and a link to SIMS Thanks in advance
  9. I can't see any real benefit in having a SSID for each frequency if your AP's are spread evenly around the place. We only have the one here and it all seems to be fine. Not sure about the RADIUS question
  10. We have used Cunninghams for a number of years and on the whole its been fine - although we have had issues with them and our online payments system (Schools Cash Office). This was resolved last year after a lot of moaning - made all the more frustrating that both those companies were part of the same organisation! Since then its been fine although we are looking at moving away from SCO now for various reasons. We do use Vericool for our 6th form registration and it seems to work OK although the support can be a bit hit and miss in my experience.
  11. That's really useful - thank you. Regarding PM registration - we don't have separate period; its done during the first lesson of the afternoon (period 4 for us). Is this likely to be an issue?
  12. Hi All I have tasked with looking into replacing Emerge with the SIMS Teacher App. Apparently there are some issues with it (which is news to me and not very useful as we only renewed our license 3 months ago). I've looked at a couple of existing threads on here and I have a couple of questions - 1. Is it actually any good - i.e. does it do what it says it does well, and if so is it better or worse than Emerge 2. Is the Windows version a 'proper' App? 3. Does it support cover staff? 4. What does the O365 integration actually do? 5. Rough cost for an Academy School with £2000 pupils Thanks in advance! Steve
  13. We use Southern Comms for our phones and leased line and they have been very good Business Communications | Telephone Systems | Phone Calls | Lines | Mobile
  14. We have it working here, albeit only on 1 WLAN on its own VLAN. We have 2 more WLAN's - also on their own VLAN's but they have different authentication methods. There is a bug in the Smoothwall software that causes us a particular issue using this setup but it works fine in the main
  15. Oddly I am having the same issue here with my SW/Ruckus - but with our guest network (which is on a VLAN). The DHCP lease time is pretty short so reducing it further isn't likely to help so I have increased the scope which was originally quite small (255 subnet mask).
  16. Yes it is rubbish - I tried a couple of times to get support from them but never heard a thing back. Another load of money wasted!
  17. We had this kit a few years back and it was a bit of a pain - I think it may have used a serial interface to talk to the weather station. Have you checked that the batteries in the weather station and any interfaces are charged?
  18. I spoke to them today and they are going to send me a user guide - I think in relation to the calendar import
  19. If you have the analogue extension card (as he does) then an analogue cordless phone should work but the cables vary between manufacturers. Our cordless phone is a BT Graphite and works fine. We also have an analogue fax connected to the IP Office box
  20. Then its very likely to be the cable as you said. I've had a cordless phone and changed that cable with one from another phone and it hasn't worked. I'm not sure if you can buy converters or whether they can actually be converted.
  21. Hi All I've had a flier from a company called Ruler Connect which offers the ability to link SIMS with Office 365 to create distribution lists etc, but more interestingly (for us) the ability to put staff timetables into their Office 365 calendars. Has anyone else here come across this company or used the product? Cheers Steve Edit - website link for company https://ruler.co.uk/
  22. I'm not familiar with the 406 but we have a cordless analogue phone in our server room, so it can be done. I assume you have plugged this phone directly into the Avaya box? If so does it work and if not have you tried a conventional analogue phone in the same slot?
  23. I wouldn't install SIMS on a server with anything else on it at all - its slow and memory hungry at the best of times, let alone with other applications etc. I assume that it isn't a domain controller? Do you have the option of installing it on a vanilla server with nothing else on? Although its not ideal, have you tried installing it as another domain admin user (systemadmin for example) or the local administrator for that server?
  24. Not quite. Most of the school are using online payments, but like others on here we have kids from a lot of different social and ethnic backgrounds so we offer a 'post box' that cheques and notes can be put in (with the student details on obviously!) The catering manager then adds the funds to the relevant accounts We also have the added issue where year 10s, 11s and 6th form can leave site at lunchtime and go the Tesco superstore that is adjacent to the school site. These kids tend to use cash so in order to try and get them to stay on site and eat a little more healthily one of our canteens now takes money.
  25. We use Oliver here and it seems OK although I'm not a librarian so can't really comment on it operationally. Our librarian feels there are better systems out there but I can't remember the name of one that she mentioned to me recently - no wait its called Eclipse. Apparently the Chartered Institute of Librarians are having a roadshow soon that will demonstrate the various systems. From a technical point of view its very stable and we haven't needed to use their support very often. I do feel that they want to charge for anything that they deem is even slightly outside their remit. Fort example I wanted to add a biometric fingerprint reader to one of the library admin PCs and asked for Softlinks help. They wanted £300 to do what was about 30 minutes work, so I phoned Biostore and they helped me do it for free!
