I'm looking to do a similar thing - along with an Intranet so would be interesting to see how you get on. SharePoint security permissions can be very complex but from my limited experience you can create SharePoint security groups for each site and even page you set up (you do this from the SharePoint ribbon I think) and you can any AD groups or users into the SP groups. You can also create O365 groups and assign them too. I have a document somewhere that covered it briefly which might help if I can find it Thats about the limit of my knowledge so far!

Thanks... The 0 sets the password value to 'Never changed' and the -1 sets the password last change to today's date. Annoying thing is you have to set it to 0 first otherwise it reverts to the previous value I don't want them to have to change their passwords today hence the need to use the pwdLastSet attribute

We have a Twitter account but its so tightly controlled its pretty much useless - we might as well send an email out to parents! The process of getting a tweet approved is almost Pythonesque in its bureaucracy! I can't imagine a teacher being allowed to post onto Facebook (even if we had a page!) There is this obsession with 'reputational risk' which is getting in the way of a sensible social media policy and I think we are failing to make the most of what could be very useful tools. I hope your school are a bit more forward thinking and open minded!

Hi I am implementing a new password policy which will come into effect in October where all staff users will need to change their passwords. To do this I need to reset the pwdLastSet attribute in AD for each user and this needs to be done twice - the value needs to be set to 0 and saved and then to -1 I don't want to do this for the whole domain, just specific OU's Can any of you PS gurus help me please! There are bugs in PowerPoint 2013 relating to embedding and playing videos that we have found and its possible that you have the same issues. We found some fixes that solved our problems - Search for KB2817636 and KB2837627 Hope this helps

We don't have the radio on in the office during the day but personally its Radio 2 (although I can't stand Chris Evans) and I also stream a lot of Internet Radio station music via Tunein on my phone - typically 70s and 80s. As for those other radio stations; they all sound the same because they are all owned by the same company - Global Radio. They include Heart (who only have a few copies of Now! CD's playing on a continuous loop), Capital, Smooth, Gold, LBC and XFM to name a few!

Sometimes we get a lot of stick in our job and have to deal with very rude and unreasonable colleagues. However its not always like that and yesterday at lunch a teacher was talking to me and said quite unprompted that he thought IT support at the school was the best he'd ever encountered (and he's worked at a lot of schools). He went on to say other very positive things about the team and the system in general, all of which made up for what was a bit of a nightmare day! Obviously he's on my christmas card and laptop upgrade list :-)

I had the same dilemma last year and in the end the School decided to stop using Successmaker altogether as the host Pearson offering was so expensive (relatively for the number of students using it) RM did say that it should work OK but they couldn't support it as Pearson no longer were.

Pretty much the same here. We have just managed to recruit a young and enthusiastic CS teacher so hopefully things will improve but my main concern is in the area of support from those above. The GCSE exam results haven't been that great recently and so the subject has become a bit of a whipping boy, and the current HOD has had enough and is standing down. @VeryPC_Colin_M - You're preaching to the converted We just need to start preaching to the non-believers and persuade them that there is life outside of Media Studies!

Yep, we have noticed that here. It seems that a lot of students that have been taking Computing as an option have done so simply because they had to choose something, and it seemed the best of a bad bunch. Programming still isn't seen as 'sexy' even though the jobs can be very well paid and there are plenty of them out there. They are trying to use the example of Games programmers here to try and change that, but without a huge amount of success at the moment.

So from September we will no longer have an ICT Department and there will be a Computer Science one instead with the sum total of 2 teachers (for a school of 2000 pupils) When I started here and ICT was still on the curriculum, there were around 7 ICT teachers so I was wondering if others have seen a similar decline and whether ICT is still taught as a subject in its own right.

We have used the both the Samsung Evo's and the Kingston V300's and they are both great. There has been an issue with the Evo's in the past where we've had to apply firmware updates but this has been sorted now. I'm not sure there's much to choose between them to be honest, and it may come down to price in the end. Go for the 250GB if you can afford it

I'd probably panic. We have an Extreme Black Diamond and the maintenance contract has lapsed (not our fault but thats another story) We do have a redundant Extreme Switch which we could power up but it uses large GBICS so we would need to change all the patch leads too. Currently trying to sort a new contract out!

I've done it with Veeam without any issues - although having said that I haven't had to use the snapshot.

Well I used to think that, but the quality is superb. They use it for submitting A level work so I guess it's got to be pretty good. We have a policy of not buying nor supporting inkjets and we are thankfully rid of them all now with the exception of one little photo printer

Our Art/Photography departments have used Canon A3 colour inkjets in the past and not only were they expensive to buy and run (in terms of ink) they were also pretty unreliable. We would then get all the ear-ache because we couldn't fix them or get someone else to, so we decided to get an A3 HP CP5225n colour laser printer. It isn't cheap but its a lot more reliable and the cost per print is lower - although to maintain the quality they need we've had to instruct our managed print people to supply HP original toner only.

IT doesn't seem to have any LDAP/AD import facility to bring in users - so unless I'm missing something obvious, its a bit of a fail for us
