We have a Primex wireless clock system that uses a GPS enabled transmitter to keep all the clocks in sync. It also has a wireless relay which is connected into the class change input of the master fire alarm panel (which is networked to four others). The system works really well and has never let us down Be careful when thinking about changing fire alarm systems - you could end spending an awful lot of money to make it comply with current standards ( I was a fire alarm engineer for many years) just to change the bells!

Totally agree - and its the same with any technology; aren't iPads supposed to bee the answer to all of education's needs?

We have around 90 IWB's and projectors here - most of them installed in 2006/2007. Over the last couple of years many of the Sahara projectors have deteriorated to the point that they have needed replacing, and we have started that process. I had a discussion with the Head about IWB v Touchscreens and we came to the agreement that we just couldn't justify the cost of the latter - £3000 + versus £900 for a new Hitachi UST projector. We can replace an IWB and projector for around £2000 , so even then the sums don't add up. The other issue I have - and the head agreed with me, is that we simply don't know how many staff actually use the IWB's interactively rather than just as glorified projector screen. If we surveyed them, I'm sure they would all say they did, but anecdotally we know that isn't the case I have nothing against touchscreen TV's at all, but until the cost comes down significantly I don't see us using them in the near future.

No it was the shielding on the cable - we moved the cable to another location and it was OK. The cable was of a low quality - even to the untrained eye. The problem probably wouldn't have occurred with a shorter cable.

I'd agree with that. There's also not a lot of point in connecting expensive cables to cheap sound equipment!

Agreed - we were getting a lot of hum from one of our Hall sound systems and we tracked it down to a very cheap 10m jack to jack cable that we had used. We replaced it with one that cost £10 and it worked a treat. I certainly think spending stupid amounts of money on them is just pointless, and if there are improvements I suspect they are so small as to be undetectable to most of us

Yep. Training and teacher PC's in classrooms for us. The kids don't have access to c drives or have the shortcuts to run SIMS so it really isn't an issue even if they did have user accounts!

Not sure that the age of the server should make the service keep stopping - I'm assuming SQL server has just the one instance - i.e the one for SIMS? I'd take a look in the servers logs to see if there is anything being reported that might give you a clue.

I have done a couple of driving courses over the last 3 years and was told by the instructor to skip gears and use engine breaking where possible. I did this quite a lot anyway but I had been originally taught to use all the gears. a friend and colleague of mine still does and I find it a bit weird !

Just noticed that the OP was referring to 7-11 year olds and I would imagine that would be an issue. However I don't think that necessarily would be the case with 11-16 and I am certainly unaware of any legal reason that they couldn't sign it although happy to be proved wrong of course!

We have a paper AUP that parents have to sign before their child is allowed Internet access. We also use the RM AUP which they have to accept at least once a year.

We are migrating from On-Prem Exchange Server to O365 on the 15th December and I'm am nervous about it even though I've got someone to do it for us!

We had a similar issue and trying to purge the logs didn't really reduce them so I logged a call with VMWare and they logged in and sorted it.

Very interesting - we don't have Imperio but have had the problem with Yosemite - so much so that we have gon back to Mavericks for the time being. Might give this a go and see if it throws up anything useful

Pretty much the same here. Be prepared for a lot of frustration though. Final Cut Pro X is another fussy piece of software that doesn't like home folders very much.
