Well it varies - it can be a few minutes to a few hours and not all of them will come up again at the same time. During this time people can still log on and do whatever they need to on the network

Yeah.. I will start doing this although so far there doesn't seem to be a pattern that I can see. Its happened 3 times on different days and times which isnt that helpful!

Yep they all have static IP's and the VLANs all seem to be fine. Was the firmware update OK?

Ok so this is an odd problem which has left me scratching my head... We use a program called iPMonitor which periodically pings all our switches (and servers) for availability and sends an email if if cant reach device after a number of tries. Just recently we have had a number of occasions where it has indicated that the majority of our switches are, but subsequent investigation has found that they are fine. It happened again this morning and its an INSET day here so the network is very quiet so I have carried out a couple of tests - I can ping all the switches that are reported down, from my PC as can my colleague from his - If I try to do same from our servers (both physical and virtual) I can't reach them - The switches are in different physical locations but are all connected to the same core switch Over the course of the day the switches will come back 'online' as it were, and all will be OK until the next time it happens All the switches are HP - V1910's and Procurve 2510's and it would seem the issue seems to affect the former but not all of them. Perhaps a firmware update is needed although that still doesn't explain why I can ping them from my PC! I'm a bit baffled so any suggestions would be great! Cheers Steve

I'd look for any physical damage too - even a small pinprick can render a whole area of the board unusable. If fact as I type this, I have just been told that one of ours has exactly that issue and will need to be replaced. There goes another £1000

As if by co-incidence I received an email from Biostore this morning as part of a general customer care program. They mentioned that they were partners of Cunninghams and thus supplied us with the Biometric system we use. There was no mention of the licensing issues discussed here but they did supply a PDF on their own cashless catering system called FasTrak, although the detail was a bit vague. All very intriguing

They (Jonas) have been been on quite an acquisition spree over the last couple of years it would seem! Jonas Software - Jonas Software I hope we won't see any more of the sync issues that we have had between Cunninghams and Tucasi that blighted the end of last term and the beginning of this one for us.

Same for us although I suppose in a worse case scenario you could register people on the new system in slow time, whilst continuing to use Biostore. However we also use Biostore for our 6th form registration system (Vericool) and Library system (Oliver) so I wonder what impact (no pun intended) it will have on them

News to me... So 1. Cunninghams have been taken over and they have developed their own Biometric system to replace Biostore 2. Biostore will start charging us to use V3 and above of their product 3. Cunninghams will provide their customers (presumably those with a maintenance contract) a free upgrade to their new Biometric system but all users will need to be re-enrolled 4. Cunninghams will continue to support V1 and V2 Biostore at 1st line level - for the time being at least Does that sound right? I really don't fancy having to re-enroll 2300 people

I'm sure I have read somewhere on here that Very PC do an AIO. Maybe I should make contact with them if anyone has their details. Obviously it a prerequisite that all our suppliers have at least one person who supports the best football team in the country :-)

Yeah the PSU's aren't really man enough for a lot of modern mainboards and tbh its not going to work out an awful lot cheaper to do it ourselves - plus all the manufacturers have 3 or 5 year warranties. We will keep a few back for spares and the rest sent for recycling.

Hi All We are about to replace a room of old RM Ones PC so I need a suitable replacement. We have a Stone AIO on load plus a NUC and they seem very good. I have also been quoted for a Dell Optiplex 3030 and the RM Ones which are now made by Zoostorm. Has anyone had any experience on the first 2 that they could share or suggest another well known supplier? Thanks Steve

I think plot and story are synonyms here but as I haven't played FC4 yet, I can't really comment on whether they are very similar. I don't expect them to be wildly different tbh as its quite a specific genre and what I also really like is the open world nature of it. I played the first Assassins Creed and got bored so quickly that I have never bothered with the other 20!

I have been playing Far Cry 3 for the last week or so after getting it last year and losing all my data when my PS3 hard drive got corrupted. Fortunately I hadn't got that far through it so not much was lost, but I felt I should complete it before getting Far Cry 4. I guess that's some sort of OCD, right? I know its available on the PS3 but I have been hankering after a PS4 so this could be a reason to get one (that and the PS4 version of GTA V)!

We are halfway through a projector replacement program as our Sahara projectors are mostly 7 years old and although changing the lamp helps, the quality still isn't great. The entire lamp assembly isn't available anymore, so for the last 3 years we have been buying the lamp itself from the US from a company called interlight.biz They are much cheaper than getting them from the UK and do lots of different lamp types. Staff let us know when there are image quality issues, but I like the idea of an annual survey ( with 100 projectors, twice a year might be a bit demanding on time) so thanks for that idea!

I'm assuming that his defence never claimed diminished responsibility? If so I expect they didn't think he was mentally ill - or not enough to go for that defence. It could be said that anyone who kills someone isn't right in the head but that doesn't mean they should be in mental hospital. Upbringing doesn't give us much of a clue about how someone might turn out either - look at the banker who has been arrested for murdering the 2 sex workers in Hong Kong. He was privately educated and had a very privileged upbringing.

I really had thought we had got past it tbh but clearly not! Maybe it's just because news editors have such a short attention span these days. From being the crisis of the century (particularly in the US) over the last few weeks, Ebola has slipped down the pecking order for lots of news organisations. Or maybe it's us punters that have the short attention spans!

I'm well aware of the other companies that use Foxconn and the issues around that, however my point was the people who want to boycott Apple have conveniently ignored a number of genuine reasons (IMHO) to do this in favour of homophobia. The whole issue around the things we buy and where they are made is probably something we all need to think about more but not in this thread!

It's odd that people will boycott Apple products because of the sexuality of its CEO but not because of its terrible environmental record or the high suicide rates in the Chinese factories that make it's overpriced kit.

We have discovered an issue with some iMacs where when we have logged in, Finder has hung and we have had to forcibly restart the Mac. When it reboots the progress bar gets stuck at 50% and never gets beyond that no matter how long you wait. The only way to get round this is to reset the PRAM, although in one case even this hasn't worked and looking at the Mac forums it seems Apples solution is to rebuild the machine! Edit - this issue seems to occur only when using network (AD) accounts rather than local ones but I need to look into it a bit more.

We had looked at it before and didn't get anywhere either and it kinda fizzled out. Have you contacted RM or looked at the knowledge base?
