  1. Yup, as well as the heat it generates. My guess is they will adress that in the next gen. At least I'd hope they do! But lets face it, these are the top end models. I'd guess that the lower end SKU's will be a lot more power friendly, at least I'd hope so!
  2. Possibly, although I am very happy to see Intel back in the game once more instead of re-hashing older designs.
  3. Today is the day and the review embargo has now lifted and the first reviews are goine live. The results look impressive so far and hopefully will force AMD to drop their prices:
  4. Not much other info currently, but looks like a third party company handling their members data has been hit - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59153761
  5. I've been watching The Outlaws and The Cleaner on iPlayer and very good they are too, although I'd love to know how they got Christoper Walken in a BBC comedy drama!
  6. I really want to watch Lawrence of Arabia again now!
  7. Stuff Santa, I know what I want for Xmas!
  8. Oh dear, just in time for payday too! Just over two hours to go - https://steamdb.info/sales/history/ time to tell your kids Santa won't be coming this year
  9. Saw it Tuesday night and was very impressed. Went to the late night showing (well, finished at just before midnight) and it was 2/3rds full and you could have heard a pin drop in the cinema it had everyone so engrossed. And space bagpipes! Only 2 years to the sequel!
  10. There's a server you'll be checking on 6 times a day!
  11. Off to see it tomorrow night, so far, everyone (inclusing those here) have said it's amazing and I'm very much looking forwards to it.
  12. I must admit, the build quality for the new versions is, so far, quite good. Not premium, but not at all bad.
  13. That was another plus point, they look like the XPS and are quite light. My days of lugging a huge fully specced laptop around with me are well over I went for the 14" screen over the old XPS's 13" as it was much easier to read as well as it only being 1080p, which prevents you getting the occasional poorly scaled dialogue box to deal with on the very high res XPS screen.
  14. I got a new laptop a couple of months ago. For the past 6 years I have been using a Dell XPS 13 and although it had many, many great features such as size, weight and, for the time, computing ability. After this six years the dual core (2C/4T) i7 and 8 GB of RAM and it’s 256GB SSD were beginning to feel inadequate and it was beginning to struggle in some tasks. Not helped by none of the parts being upgradable as everything is soldered to the mainboard as well as a distinct lack of I/O. Fortunately, Dell released a new series of Vostro laptops in early summer with Ryzen mobile CPU’s and a whole raft of great expansion and connectivity options. Not to mention it was only just over £500 (launch offer, now around £570 ex-vat), considerably cheaper than a new XPS. I went for the 5415 model. What really sold it though was the expansion options. Everything, apart from the cpu (a 6C/12T Ryzen 5500U) is upgradable. RAM (upgraded to 16GB), SSD and Wifi (upgraded to AX WiFi) all easily done in very little time. Not to mention is also has full sized HDMI, ethernet, 2 x USB A 3.1 and 1x USB C. I have to admit to being very impressed so far but it does seem the Vostro is one of those machines that doesn’t get the kind of love or coverage that they really deserve. Is anyone else out there using them?
  15. And at a discount too. These would usually be £110 but are on an inital offer for £79.99 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/echo-buds-2nd-generation/dp/B085WV7HJR?ref=deals_deals_deals-grid_dcell_img_0_0d29f5e1_dt_slot-15_badc I've been waiting on these for ages as they were supposed to be out here in July and offer a lot of bang for your buck.
  16. This is quite an interesting situation. Will we end up in the same position that XP users experienced when that went EOL? Will there still be lots of perfectly capable machines out there that won't meet the Windows 11 requirements? Will W10 users still carry on, just without updates as did many XP users, or will there be a rush to replace hardware?
  17. Mind you, many parts of Africa have bypassed analogue lines and have gone straight to mobile. For many countries there, their landline infrastucture is very old and creaky, so is the best choice I think.
  18. My guess would be they may be used to swipe type on-screen keyboards. I can only imagine trying that on a real one!
  19. I knew it was coming, but not the date, and let's face it, it's not as if we didn't have other things occupying our minds this time last year when they published this.
  20. You haven't seen my desktop! TBF, it's mainly junk that isn't worth storing on our 365/Teams structure. Which is very well organised, I have to say. My personsal imortant stuff is also in the cloud and is structured too.
  21. This one seems to have passed us by (apologies if it was mentioned last year) - https://www.crowncommercial.gov.uk/news/the-closure-of-the-public-switched-telephone-network The TLDR is that it is to close on the 31 December 2025.
  22. This is an interesting article. Apparently some (it can't be all, surely?) Gen Z students are struggling with the concept of files and folders: https://www.theverge.com/22684730/students-file-folder-directory-structure-education-gen-z Have any of you encountered this from pupils/students in your schools?

  24. There certainly is a large amount of legacy baggage in there still with Windows 10. I suppose a big clear out is in order, but sometimes I think they underestimate how important certain Windows features are. Look at the outcry when Notepad (which I use daily to remove text formatting) was removed as a base install program.
