Now you can buy the BIG turkey!

All I got was a WiFi antenna set and base for my new AX PCIe WiFi card and a 1l bottle of Kracken. There were quite a few good deals, but nothing I really needed.

Some good smart heating deals if anyone is looking for them - https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=smart+heating&i=prime-day&ref=nb_sb_noss

I was thinking that, there doesn't seem to be many 'good' deals on TV's but that is a cut-throat market atm, but lots of tech on sale at good prices.
-
There seems to be a lot of deals on monitors too - https://www.amazon.co.uk/deal/c93520d7?showVariations=true&ref=deals_primeday_deals-grid_slot-6_9fdc_dt_dcell_img_15_c93520d7

So, as usual, if you see anythign that you think is a good deal then please post up the link in this thread with a decription of the item please i.e. 'A good 4k TV smart TV - <link> as in the past some peopel just post links with no description. All I have seen so far is some pretty decent deals (as usual for this sale) on Amazon devices such as the Echo Dot 4th Gen at half price for £24.99 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/all-new-echo-dot-4th-generation-smart-speaker-with-alexa-charcoal/dp/B084DWCZXZ/?_encoding=UTF8&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_p=4a6287e1-f357-4688-97eb-7e9872864dd5&pd_rd_wg=dwlNB&pf_rd_r=YGJT9BNFRG90PW6XDN6R&pd_rd_w=7CgWO&pd_rd_r=0b20e955-4259-404d-8fda-7d5aa78d3a75&ref_=pd_gw_unk Time to scour the TV's!

Just come across these and for the price are a steal if you can't stretch for more expensive ones. £49.99 down from £119 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/amazon-echo-buds-wireless-earbuds-with-immersive-sound-active-noise-reduction-and-alexa/dp/B07FWGBDN6?ref=deals_deals_deals-grid_slot-15_6ac6_dt_dcell_img_6_cbd53644 Mind you, I'm waiting on the gen2 buds to make an appearence here in the UK.

A lot better than I was expecting. I almost expected to see a box with the words 'Trust Us' displayed when you went to look for settings. As has been mentioned though, it is strange that they still have not managed to combine the old and new control panels by now. Perhaps it really was too much of a cludgy mess underneath and W11 has a total rewrite for all the settings.
-
I suspect the new version will be the best way to incorporate newer or upcoming technologies that weren't around 6 years ago. We all know how cludgy Windows can get once they start bolting on features or support for new 'stuff'. Far better to start on a clean state, although I think much of it would be directly ported over from Windows 10.

I would hope so too! I have many useful years left in me yet.

Because the toilets in Weatherspoons are really far away?

One thing I have found is that with legacy clients (g, n, ac) you may find their connection speed reduced as I found on my new home AC access point, where ac clients only connect at a max of 400Mbps as opposed to 800+ Mbps with the old ac one. With a new PCIe XC card I'm connecting at about 1000Mbps max when demand is high (this rate will vary depending on the amount of network traffic you are generating). This is primarily down to the way ac handles other traffic and can be dependent on the AP used. I found this page very informative as to the why - https://www.duckware.com/tech/wifi-in-the-us.html

I've worked on projects where we've swapped out first gen kit with the next iteration of the equipment and one problem has always been 'what the hell do we do with all this old junk?'. Much of said 'junk' was often higher end (Cisco etc.) and in some cases we had to pay for equipment to be recycled. Admittedly, some of this was in the days before the popularity of second user/refurbished market, but it was a big problem then when you had a couple of thousand pieces of not quite old networking gear to get rid of.

I should also add, I've finally got around to watching Vikings and kicking myself for not having done so long ago. Gripping TV, I'm about 2/3rds the way through the second season and hoping it doesn't crash and burn!

He's a Scottish author and with (apparently) over a million books sold and the Drinker side is his alter-ego. His main gripe about many films is poor plots, bad writing, awful characters and unrealistic responses/actions. If you watch many of his vids you will often see him compare many films that flopped to others whuich did much better and point out why. His channel is very successful and I've been following him since before he hit the YouTube zeitgeist but I don't agree with all of his reviews (Mandalorian I'm looking at you here!). His Ford v Ferrari review is well worth a watch to see how he does his reviews (occasional potty word warning!):

I've been watching that, it's rather good.

I did check ages ago, but have forgotten. I'll give it a test at lunchtime!

As it's mainly to allow my son to use his Quest 2 to stream games from his PC (via GB powerline adaptors to the router) the 6Ghz isn't really soemthing I'd consider needing just yet. Certainly not until laptops, phones etc. catch up. TBH, it;'s about time home networking caught up with the faster speeds many other environments are beginning to enjoy.
-
I should have also mentioned that it should have POE for power!

I currently have an aging Ruckus AC access point providing wifi coverage in my house. It has done sterling service over the years but now my son, via his Oculus Quest 2 likes to stream games from his PC to the headset when he's got the extra space in the living room to play in. As there is a big update coming out for the Quest 2 any time now which will allow for the streaming of (almost) any PC VR games to the Quest 2 I'm after upping the bandwidth in the house as the Quest 2 likes AX apparently. What I would like s a recommendation for a home access point that will be able to reach all the corners in a mid-sized house and priced around £150-£200, does anyone have any recommendations? *No routers please as I already use a Ubiquiti router with my Virgin Superhub in modem mode.

Went for chippy tea and a walk at Lytham with my partner last night. All the bars and restaurants that had outdoor seating (pretty much all of them) were packed. Everyone seemed very happy. Bit too chilly for my liking so we sat on the prom with three layers on overlooking the Ribble estuary and had our fish and chips!

Tried to get a haircut at 9am at my usual place. There must have been 20 people queued down the street! The alternates (I had planned this!) were appointment only I just want to see my ears again!
