This won't be much help, but a very long time ago there was a company who got in touch who specialised in scanning and doing OCR on the fly (back when schools were just beginning to move from paper to digital records), so there should still be some out there still.

Tried to get in this afternoon. Joined the queue and were told that unless you had a ticket you couldn't get in, apparently down to the IT 'issue'. We went to the V&A instead.

Whilst the last day at BETT is usually quiet, it does seem today that the storm may be keeping some who were to travel in from the north, away today, especially given the cancellation of flights and trains, and speaking to some exhibitors on the way into ExCeL it appears some may be getting away quite early. How many of your schools will be closed today? The news seems to be very focussed on specific areas (for good reasons) and it would be interesting to see just (geographically speaking) whre this seems to kick in around the country.

What AI Education stands do you recommend visiting??
Dos_Box replied to IT_Man_Dan's topic in BETT 2026
'AI' Seems to be this years buzzword at BETT, and many stands are promoting how AI makes their products better in some undefined way. It's not a case of who is pushing AI in education, but which ones are actually utilising it I feel. It would be interesting if any of you who attend can let us know your thoughts on who is actually utilising AI correctly. -
AFAIK, you don't need to, but if it reaches capacity in the arena then you will be turned away. You should have seen the queue for Stephen Fry's keynote speech yesterday, possibly the largest one I've seen at any BETT.

'Tis great fun, espcially if you get a plane taking off from London City Airport over the top of you

Great British Rail fare sale: Government confirms cheaper tickets
Dos_Box replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
Apparently they are training up new train managers from other staff to allow some services to run on the Sundays, but I was due to travel back from BETT after having a day off in London on the Sunday, but rebooked my return for the Monday now. More time in the British Museum! -
The last time I went it was during the foot and mouth outbreak. They had cancelled the TT and there were a lot of very cheap deals going, so a bunch of us took motorbikes, a couple of Westfeidls and a Lotus Elise for some TT circuit fun for 4 days. We got the ferry out from Liverpool and back through Heysham. Where do you live as this may determine which ferry port works best for you. I would recommend you do the TT circuit on one day as it's rather sceanic

I've had a couple of XPS laptops over the years and all have been very solid. I'm currently on a Vostro as it has LOTS of connectivity options (also becuase my old laptop died during lockdown and the Vostro was the only one at a 'reasonable' price at the time). Their renaming strategy seems to resemble that taken by Intel recently with a mass of confusing brading options. Still, at least it's not like HP and their Many-Digit-Model-Numbers approach some time back.

Just finished Baby Reindeer this weekend. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it (although 'enjoy' is possibly not the word here!), but it certainly was engrossing, immersive and a very scary insight into those affected by mental health issues and their affect on others.

After a couple of hours work I think it came out ok... I used builders wipes, whiich you can get a big tub of for about £5 - £8 depending on where you get them - https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVERBUILD-WIPE80-WIPES-WONDER-100/dp/978801898X?crid=3KFCE7Q9CXBBU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ESfHUAHW9yYjfAePEK-9Ek5iwFxUIKoNJ56JCiJrvvqT0dXtXzhhabgcrkxXRaqqGSw3rsrXZXoxIdakEwpJGPEc3YhRuws6Yo3I8S77v1AGM8zT89FluwMF9_RoolsbBUubLaDzUNUfFt6ntb0ZbeiO8Y8ufHLa-bcnim5ls5K8sXcgZa36bXdTUcitpUwJ5kvnZIJ9KAYezR6uZNq7CosMPsOZ5zx874id2o4jG28HnfUeFm6S4L4FgaKr-7ilx9iCLkaA5ja49OCXxHxdZnPjLEcJPSwgHCiJdaDDrUAS1MagG48qJ74z4OOP7GUWovAyKhq4Du9sRC2jxPUQxcJu7CIzWSmx5wGNpZ9o8Ogdu0nn_M5-0trKv9B4YzKt9velJ5pnbAa6DK53rsJdvtF0_VRKpS9MziVr9hdtp0Dnuwqqss2Hg3-4I42CENu9.IR3kA2k_snMRd78plBCWy9vpT_tpVTweTuI20QuySk0&dib_tag=se&keywords=builders%2Bwipes&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1735917732&sprefix=builders%2Bwipes%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-26&th=1

Happy new year everyone, and just like @elsiegee40, I hope this year is a lot better than the last (2 x new hips took me out of action for far too long), and I hope it's the same for you all too

I did contemplate the dishwasher (and I have a suitable bag for them), but I have read different reports of the outcome, so I'll just do it the more labour intensive way and do it properly

I was handed this the other day from a family member who told me that some keys didn't work correctly and it may need a clean... It's the stuff of nightmares! I used a paintbrush to dig out the worst of the dust\crud outside, and will get it stripped down properly tonight and the keys in to soak in some mild detergent.

Well, if you are still in work you are either stuck in the office trapped behind a huge pile of Quality Street wrappers, or wnderign aroud turnign off everthing that should have been turned off by others. In anycase, I just want to wish you all a great Xmas and new year from everyone here at EduGeek, and if we don't see you on the site in the meantime, we'll see you in the new year, and hopefully at BETT at the end of Jan. See you then
