  1. I was wondering what would happen to all of the copper wiring when we all went fibre. I wonder if that £105m is the full payment or a downpayment?
  2. When I was working in Belize, there was a beach bar run by a retired American who was a huge fan (it was almost the only thing he played). And I can't rmeber a single track, but did appreciate him as an actor. He was also a helicopter pilot in the US army and did Ranger school before pursuing music as a career.
  3. Is it the same fingerprint reader as mine (Goodix)?
  4. My girlfriend bought me this wonderful advent calendar the other day: And I am very much not allowed to even set it up until December the 1st! Now the challege has been laid down, I now have to find her something equally as epic I feel. Any suggestions? I am currently torn between a Peanuts or Muppets ones.
  5. Can I ask how long you've had your Latitude? Mine only strated to do this after quite a time, but is now a regular thing and unless you reboot (or restart the driver) after three days or so.
  6. That is very sad, she was always a welcome addition to any production she was in.
  7. I have a Dell Vostro laptop and the fingerprint reader on that will stop working after a couple of days use with it only being hibernated via closing the laptop lid. Is the driver being shown as having crashed? Mine uses the Goodix MOC fingerprint reader. It's a common problem across a range of Dell laptops apparently.
  8. Hmm, I think that career guidence is a good topic idea, and we do know more than a few job agencies, but with educational IT being such a wide church, it does not have the same kind of requirements as, say, a corporate role, where specialities are more common. To be told you need to specialise or get yourself trained up in 'A', 'B' and 'C' may not be relevent to the education sector. This would require a bit of thought, and, as before, may be better suited to a webinar. Regarding getting SLT to value IT, I think that would be more suited to something directed directly to them. We know IT staff are important, the private sector know they are important, but in an organisation that does not have to generate its own capital and is habitually conditioned to pay the bare minimum to anyone who is not a teacher, it is a hard message to push. This may well be worth a seperate coversation outside of the devaluing thread, where we can focus on the process of how this might be achieved.
  9. We had asked Google to speak, but they can't provide anyone at this time (they have had a bit of a staff turnover and new people finding their feet I think), but I know a former Google employee and can reach out to see if they are available.
  10. I know just the person! I don't think they can make the conf, but is definately a great idea for a webinar.
  11. Moving to Virtual Machines forum.
  12. That will be coming soon once I get returns from our confirmed speakers as to the exact content of their talks (quite a bit of back and forth to ensure speakers do not duplicate subject areas goes on), but so far we have the following companies\organisations speaking and I think you can guess from those the topic areas to be delivered. Please note that the subjects in brackets are only a rough guide to what is to be covered: Smoothwall Microsoft Synology The EXA Foundation (Raspberry Pi projects for helping with networks) Sophos Nellcote (Penetration testing 101)
  13. We've had a great response to our request from various organisations for the conf this year, but due to some not being able to make it (we have them down for future webinars now), we have one slot left to fill. So what would you like to see? Please give a topic\subject area rather than a company you would like to speak, as this will help us spread the net a little wider when reaching out. So, suggestions?
  14. I'm a huge Robert R McCammon fan, and still have my copy of Stinger (plus Swan Song and Boy's Life), so hope that this does it justice. His books are quite collectable as he forbade reprinting back in the day, not so sure if that is still the case.
  15. Now, if only they could bring back Texan bars, if only to keep dentists in work.
  16. Mr Hewes has had a bit of fun recently! He usually had vids on him restoring\running tanks (and it's very entertaining!). It may contain swearing, so be careful at work.

  17. They have been smote with the ban hammer!
  18. I have to admit, the first time I ate in one was in 1997 (Oxford), and it was very good. I last went into one before lockdown and it was terrible, badly cooked and overpriced. TBH, I find many independant places offer much better value and food quality these days.
  19. We have just confimed Sophos and Nellcote as speakers
  20. Happy birthday Shaun! How old again?
  21. I'll bump this now, just in case some of you missed it yesterday when it went live @DalekSec I consider Crewe to be south. And don't even get @ZeroHour involved in this coversation!
  22. You can view the page at https://edugeek.me/article/734
  23. Took my son to see the Star Wars fils at the Backlot in Blackpool over the weekend. Star Wars on Friday night and Empire and RoTJ back to back on Saturday. He's 18 and has never seen them before. I don't think they are aging well with some of the younger generation! He liked Empire but thought the others were a bit 'meh'. I couldn't make him understand just how groundbreaking these films were when released. It probably didn't help that these were the 'enhanced' versions and the CGI really hasn't held up. TBH, I didn't like those versions to begin with!
  24. Went to Lytham for a sunset walk last night and was rewarded with some great skyscapes
  25. As the others had said, when it's 'branded' and you use it for work, then it's classed as uniform. Our accountant cleared that up for us many years back.
