I went to Boots and got some eyewash (to help with evening pollen) and got one of these: https://www.boots.com/boots-eye-wash-with-eye-bath-300ml-10192796 I usually buy from Morrisons, but as I was in town and running out decided Boots would be quicker. This is the Morriosnans one: https://groceries.morrisons.com/products/morrisons-eye-wash-562886011 They are the same product, in the same bottle, made by the same company. The Boots one is £2.49 more expensive!

BYOD Chromebook setup fee in a school - any justification?
Dos_Box replied to Dos_Box's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
Thanks Tony, I'll make sure they ask the school about that. -
BYOD Chromebook setup fee in a school - any justification?
Dos_Box replied to Dos_Box's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
That was also going to be an additional question. Can the (privately purchased) Chromebook, once enrolled with a school, be used on a secondary account for home use? By the sounds of it, that's a big fat nope. -

Ah, that would make sense. But still...! -

Thanks all, and as @HyperTech said, surely the licencensing is paid for by the school? It does seem cheeky to make parents pay out for a device then charge them on top of that for something the school would have had to pay per head\device for anyway? -
I've been helping a friend of mine's sister with sorting out a Chromebook for her son (the school no longer provides Chromebooks and you have to purchase your own). @ICTDirect_Dave very kindly helped me out in supplying one at an excellent price! I've just got a message this morning that the school want £30 to setup each pupils Chromebook. This seems very excessive, and if any of you coud provide me with any info as to what could take up so much time that this fee is as high as it is I would be most greatful, as it does seem rather OTT.

This looks like an interesting app from Microsoft which should be out in the near future: Whilst it does nothing you can't (mostly) do in Windows anyway (often with a little faff), it's always nice to have an app that wraps things up. I used to love Ccleaner, but it's got far too naggy in recent years so no longer bother with it. Microsoft have it listed online, but it's still not in the Microsoft Store when you search for it - https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9pm860492szd?hl=en-us&gl=GB I wouldn't bother clicking 'Install' on the web link, you just get a pop-up.

Please keep this civil everyone. If it continues as it is, we may have to close the thread If you want to see just how determined cyber-criminals are to wreak havoc on systems these days then please watch the webinar Sophos did with us recently. It's quite an eye opener how much effort goes into their activities these days.

Anyone need a new phone? Amazon Flash deal on OnePlus 9 Pro for £169!
Dos_Box replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
I've ordered one. The battery on my Nord2 is beginning to go, and the camera on it is decidedly 'meh'. This should fit the bill nicely! -
It's on a flash sale, but a steal for a flagship (ok, a 2 year old flagship) phone @£169 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/OnePlus-SIM-Free-Smartphone-Hasselblad-Camera-Morning-Mist/dp/B08V1C4G4B/ref=sxin_12_recs_zoco_stores_brand_identity_bs?content-id=amzn1.sym.ecc1ecf8-8d1c-4bbd-b655-da936e24b538%3Aamzn1.sym.ecc1ecf8-8d1c-4bbd-b655-da936e24b538&crid=ZQGU9JUMCUM3&cv_ct_cx=oneplus&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.MA4I-WqKy-v_FTXmCJpP_p3qtf9ie4BAfxSr8BcLBNd3Kp0cHobEKuDuLb3WB957AC8uGcmlEqZiVGRKZMEGNWhjnYAiQwM7hDCdLT1Boxk.6ROWb4mwFoRZyVLfXzecspMcZeUQ9W-9g5i7_nRljfM&dib_tag=se&keywords=oneplus&pd_rd_i=B08V1C4G4B&pd_rd_r=93642405-e2aa-45e9-9335-9efb34b9782f&pd_rd_w=ZrhMb&pd_rd_wg=TM8lx&pf_rd_p=ecc1ecf8-8d1c-4bbd-b655-da936e24b538&pf_rd_r=97FR4SADJD09W1SW5AKK&qid=1719435341&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=oneplus+%2Caps%2C168&sr=1-3-0723f66e-ff99-43ba-a202-1be1089a8603&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.16386313-b7bf-4b29-bfa1-0d3d5f3a0dd5

I try and get my meat from the butchers on the market in Preston, and I find them far better quality than the supermarkets. My last shop was £17 and had me walking with a lean there was that much in the bag. I may have got too much dry cured bacon
-
In Morrisons, they have their own brand butter and a 'savers' butter. The savers butter was exactly the same as their own brand, but in a different colour wrapper of the same material. This is 10-15p cheaper!

Many of the power tools sold in Lidl\Aldi contain parts made by the 'big boys'. They use them for testing new items such as motors, controls etc. Which is why some may have had poor reliability in the past. Obviously they are not built to the same standards, but the innards can often contain Bosch etc. parts.

Wow, they have some good pricing! - https://celloelectronics.com/shop-televisions/

There is a company in the US that makes most of the 'bespoke' spirts sold there. All out of one plant.

Yep, the vast bulk of frozen pizzas sold in the UK all come from the same factory in Leyland!

Channel 4 put this up on YouTube last week and thought it might help you all save a few pennies

That's the same as my setup!

What @HyperTech said. I'm not a fan of the speakers on mine though, but I tend to run it via an AV receiver, so it's not an issue.
-
I have a 55" QLED Hisense too and very happy with it. They are often on sale so you don't have to pay a fortune for them.

As the thread title says. It may not be long before this happens in the UK\EU too - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/article/2024/jun/21/us-kaspersky-antivirus-software-ban-russia-ties Is anyone here using Kaspersky in their schools?

I'm loving this season so far, and like everyone else, I had to look up if they had changed the actor for Mothers Milk! *No they haven't, he's just shed a load of weight!
