I believe that the previous site's achievements were not transferable for technical reasons (they may have been a plugin), but will check with ZeroHour to see if anything can be done.
-
I believe @ZeroHour has that down to be sorted soon. We had some gripes with it last night.

First Topic on the new update, to say thank you!

More themes will be added in due course. We just need to make sure everything is tikkity-boo before we do. You can change between the three existing themes by clicking on 'Theme' at the bottom of the screen. -
I think using our existing Comments and Suggestions forum here would be best - https://www.edugeek.net/forums/forum/23-comments-and-suggestions/ Please do not post up any problems in there, only suggestions and ideas for things the site could be doing. Any faults\issues you might find should still be posted in here - https://www.edugeek.net/forums/forum/65-edugeeknet-site-problems/

We were going to do one of those, but then @DalekSec created this one and everyone piled in, so it's proving very useful for us. @ZeroHour will be around in a bit (he's having some much deserved sleep atm.) but I shall create one now and set out some ground rules for it. I've some faff to do shortly as I'm going to be in Leeds at the Smoothwall EdTech Connect event this evening, and I'll see any of you that are there and hopefully get some more early feedback.
-
It may be we have a plugin for that (iSpy was). We went pretty much vanilla for the migration. The extra stuff will be getting plugged in over the upcoming weeks. If we don't have that, then I'm sure we can source one.

I'm on Android and it's fine for me Tom, although I do recall that there was an issue over leaderboard banners not rendering correctly and stretching the screen. What phone are you using? Oh, and I'll see you later if you're at the EdTech Connect event tonight 🙂

And we're back. Breathe in that new forum smell!

As an FYI. We intend to be doing the final phase this evening. As ZeroHour said, we had a couple of unexpected niggles to sort out. By the time we had fixed them we had ran out of time to do a migration last night.

Weirdly, I find myself playing Red Alert 2 quite a bit. Primarily because I know how long a game will take (approx), so can plan around it. And Tesla coils are tremendously satisfying

One question I forget to ask is, what keyboards and mice are school esports teams using? Does the school pay\provide these, or do they encourage pupils to bring their own? I can imagine that per item, this can get expensive for schools to be funding.
-
So pupils are expected to own a copy of whatever game they are to compete in? Not a criticism and as many of these games are relatively cheap anyway it makes sense, especially when it comes to practicing* at home. *Playing video games.
-
Thanks @ColonelPanic, that's very helpful, can I ask how you handle the games and licensing? Do you have 'x' amount of Steam accounts and use them all individually or is there a group account type of thing you can use instead?

-
OK, now I'm in 'the best shape to float into shipping lanes' mode.
-
So, when it comes to the internet side of things, and I can appreciate that most schools have multiple hoops to jump through (firewalls, filtering etc.) before you can get out onto the net, what is the biggest problems you have encountered connecting, and what has your internet provider done to help things (if any)?

🗓️ Event: EdTech Connect 2025
Dos_Box replied to smoothwall-marketing's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Updated with the agenda for the evening added -
Last night, whilst musing how much I kinda regretted getting an Xbox One X when first released and keep finding myself playing older games on it still, some questions popped into my head which may have been sparked by my having spoke to a potential sponsor who specialises in esports hardware recently. Mainly because esports is an up and coming activity for schools, and I think there is still not quite enough info out there on the nitty-gritty of it all. And my question(s) are these: 1. What specs are your gaming PC's vs what you could actually get by using i.e. are they overpowered for what is required? 2. What have you found to be more important, resolution (are you using a lower resolution that allows for better FPS for example), fps or latency etc. ? 3. Did you feel you had overspent on hardware or underspent, and should have gone for a higher spec for the gaming PC's? 4. Will your new hardware be relevant for about 4-5 years and capable of competing still? 5. What were the hardest parts of getting your school esports hardware up and running? I know a few of you out there are managing esports setups in your schools and am very curious as to how you are getting along with them, or what issues you faced. It may be we'll have to get British Esports back to speak to you all at some point this year

🗓️ Event: EdTech Connect 2025
Dos_Box replied to smoothwall-marketing's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Just a quick bump in case you missed it. This event promises to be a great evening for existing Smoothwall customers or those interested in their products. With advice, sneak peeks and networking, it will give everyone attending a lot to take back to their schools with them. We shall be there and look forwards to joining you for the evening. -
Agreed, it was a very sad end for all involved, very tragic indeed *For those that haven't read what happened yet, I suggest you go and find out. No foul play, just very sad.

This will make for some great mods - https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/ea-releases-source-code-for-four-command-conquer-games/ar-AA1zWiId?apiversion=v2&noservercache=1&domshim=1&renderwebcomponents=1&wcseo=1&batchservertelemetry=1&noservertelemetry=1 They have released the source code for the following games: Command & Conquer Command & Conquer: Red Alert Command & Conquer: Renegade Command & Conquer: Generals I have no idea what modders will do to them, but I expect some great additions to these classic titles coming through the pipeline later this year

Please note that we do not allow discussion of salary levels in the jobs forum. Replies talking about these have been unapproved. If you do not like the advertised salary, then do not apply for the job.
