Oooh, some decent looking sci-fi, of which we haven't had enough of this year. I hope it's as good as the trailer makes it look.
-
I have to say, it was a very good film, not at the same level as Ford v Ferrari in terms of acting and drama, but certainly a great way to spend an evening. The race scenes are beautifully shot and if I had one gripe, it's that it didn't need the brief romantic bit, and it could have been half an hour shorter. I booked tickets at midday yesterday and about 10% of the screen had sold, it was 3/4 full last night. It's supposed to be on a limited release (Apple TV production) but may extend its run, so I'd catch it whilst you can.

I'm off to see this in IMAX tonight, I'll let you all know how it went tomorrow

I think the days of reliable and little used IDE drives may be coming to an end in the next few years. There is a business opportunity there I feel for anyone wishing to clutter up their house with dozens of high capacity, tested IDE drives! I would have gone for one too if I felt that it would last, but I'll go with an old SSD and use the adaptor. For speeds sake if anything else.

[tv show] Robert R McCammon's Swan Song to be made into a series

Some more news on who is behind the Swan Song production, and it's looking good! -
I too have bought an IDE to SATA adaptor my my G4 Mac Cube (I really must get around to fitting it, but need to get the DVD drive belt swapped out first, and it's a pig of a job). This was the one I ordered - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Multibao-Interface-Adapter-Converter-Parallel/dp/B08VR9YQ3C?crid=2GG18KGMC5OUS&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.9uxpHL3StsWreSJ5wrfC7XTnH-OGlMVXQHtyb70CF2jVwN0W7s8i9HtmGmprYo_u2lis3ncwdqTqzHl_5-ByGz99tTdVBNQyUX8xaluzWcUCjzoa3uAg9tn0zrCl44_Z7toFmF41rZOShyLMFTnfnGnk5uoVH3UkCs95o9k8501fkn5t77WfvOIOw1WfVfhelknHVLkMBiT4WcvQOG7r_fNi8AnjANSdT1mB5r2yuoA.TiOMIzgYiUSMwXGJ5kGnFnWsmA_m3EGFEJdNZx5jnnU&dib_tag=se&keywords=ide+to+sata+adaptor&qid=1751295792&sprefix=ide+to+sata+adaptor%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-4 @JaanHow much did you pay for the Intellimouse? They go for a lot of money now and I was after one a while back, because they were a very good mouse indeed. ETA: Excellent find with that Voodoo 5500. There can't be that many of them around these days.

Well, either they give a an indecipherable code or it flashes up and reboots so fast that you can't read it anyway! TBH, I had my first BSOD in ages today when my pc booted up today. No idea what it was as it restarted so quickly.
-
It's going to be black now, with a lot less information by all accounts - https://www.pcmag.com/news/microsoft-to-retire-the-blue-screen-of-death-again-for-a-black-void Well, that'll help with diagnosing faults.

Can I ask how this was attached? I've found similar online, but it would help if we knew if the RCA jacks were connected to the L\R channels then the 3.5mm jack to the PC. I've found these - https://cpc.farnell.com/pro-signal/psg00807/3-5mm-jack-plug-to-2x-phono-pl/dp/AV14270?st=phono plug but it will all depend on what the phono jacks connect too.

Systems Administrator TT+3 wks - Oxford - £DOE - Closes 23/6/25

I said pay info, not salary We have had plenty of job listings before where the pay is dependant on experience and not listed. But yes, it is annoying when you have zero idea of even their starting wage level. -

Systems Administrator TT+3 wks - Oxford - £DOE - Closes 23/6/25

*BUMP* The job description + pay info (schools own pay scale) are all contain in the linked PDF. It's quite lengthy! -
I think the problem is that it has half hour episodes, but is paced for a 1 hour show. It just feels disappointing when each episode ends (and always on a cliff hanger). Otherwise, I'm enjoying it so far. I'm just going to with a couple of weeks and build up a few to watch back to back.

Out of interest, what kind of power draw do you get from large screens compared to projectors, any idea?

Birthdays sometimes creep up on us, but we’ve been keeping an eye on this date for some time. Since EduGeek went live on 9th June 2005, we have often missed our birthday, but not this year; this year we turned 20 years old! To celebrate this, we have asked our sponsors, both past and present, to help us out with organising some competitions for you all, and many of them kindly agreed. You can find them here on the side bar (UK Only). EduGeek started as a small hobby site that I thought would only get perhaps 200 members if I was lucky and that I could run it as a nice, cheaply hosted hobby and make some EdTechs lives a little easier. Please keep in mind that, when we started, some schools were still using Windows 98 on the desktop and NT 4.0 servers! It turns out I underestimated just how many EdTechs there were out there as we now have over 114,000 members and 7.5 million visits per year from around the world. Cloudflare says many, many more, but we can only claim what we can prove and filtering and script blockers play merry hell with analytic stats! From our point of view, especially after spending time going through our photo archive, it really does bring home just how far we have come. Our original site was hosted on Fasthosts using a free CMS system called Dragonfly which was underpinned by the phpBB forum. The one thing I never forget though is the sheer number of people we have met in person. So many have said nice things to us about how they have been helped by the EduGeek community over the years and it’s always a humbling experience. On a personal level, my social circles have increased greatly. The initial help was offered by members such as @GrumbleDook, @russdevand @Ric_ . Then the sudden appearance of @ZeroHour via a late night MSN Messenger chat in our very early days with an offer of help with some performance problems that we were having (cheap hosting, ropey CMS system and high usage do not for a well performing site make), meant we suddenly had a webmaster and someone to look after all the tech side of the site allowing me to concentrate on spreading the word about EduGeek. From there we formed a core group of admins and moderators, all of whom worked in schools, and things began to take off. We organised conferences and events and began to exhibit at BETT where we have been a fixture since 2007. Just like any community, we have seen people come and people go. Some have joined, stayed and contributed since our very early days. Some have left the EdTech sector and stayed on the site . And some have moved on and returned. Many of us have married and raised families and many of us have had the kind of incidents life will throw at us at some point during our lives. These events have often been shared within the forums where we see members rally around those needing their support. It's been truly amazing to have seen you all step in when required. Sadly, we have also lost members along the way and we created the ‘GNU’ tag to memorialise those members’ posts in the forums. There really isn’t the time and space to mention everyone that we would like to thank individually, but to those who have helped and influenced us the most, we’d like to say how privileged and humbled we are to have known you over the years. So, in no particular order, we’d like to thank the following: You, our members. You have been, without doubt, the most helpful, knowledgeable and funny group we could have ever wished to meet. Thank you for making our work worthwhile. The forum sponsors and advertisers, both current and past. Without you, the good ship EduGeek would not have been able to navigate the choppy waters of the EdTech world and provide support to millions each year. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our moderators. Over the years we have had many people join and leave our team of mods. They have ensured the site has stayed spam free and a safe place for members to participate. They have helped at events, provided ideas and taken a great weight from our workloads. You really don't know how much work they put in behind the scenes and I am forever thankful for their help and time. And finally, the many people we would like to thank personally, but there simply isn’t the time and space to list you all, but we hope you know who you are. We do. I have edited this article many times over the past week or so and have to admit that it’s really (really) hard to get 20 years of EduGeek down into a few hundred words. So, in the end, I didn't try. There will be a post going up this week with a potted timeline of significant dates and events with pictures we think you would like to see. If you have any old pics of EduGeek conferences and events that have attended, or funny stories from things that have happened on the site, then please post them up there when it goes live. It’ll be interesting to see things from your side. Here's to the future and we hope that you stay with us to see what happens next. Thanks everyone, from all of us here at EduGeek

I have to admit, I've bought a TP-Link USB WiFi card for a emulator PC I'm working on and that is a Realtek based AX affair (can't recall the chipset though) and I've had no issues with it. And I've tested it's throughput quite a bit with no issues. The drivers are in their (TP-Link) own wrapper though, so could be 'fixed'. I only found out it was Realtek when I tried a few Linux emulator front ends and had to manually install the drivers via command line. It also worked fine on Linux. TBH, it's probably the first Realtek WiFi chipset I've had AFAIK.

I've just found out the codes worked :) I get really annoyed when you receive a package that has been tampered with.
-
My sons arrived at his mums house and had been opened! She got the postman to witness that it had been tampered with. She thinks that they may have stolen\copied the Mario Kart code. Fingers crossed for this not being the case. This was after they sent it on a trip to Morcambe yesterday from the local sorting office.
-
My son is getting one. Looks like it should arrive today via Royal Mail (according to the tracking).
-
I've just been looking at some Silverstone cases. They are very pretty!
-
Indeed, I had a P4 powered thing in the 2000's, which came in a great case. It looked like a DVD player. It doesn't need to be too small, just smaller than the Zalman and with the ability to put some decent air cooling on it. Mind you, once I've cleaned this one it up (it's been in storage a while) it may look quite nice with all my other black home media stuff.
-
I had seen that, but I'm willing to pay a bit more for something a bit more 'elegant', so it doesn't look out of place or cheap in the living room.
-
It is a touch screen too IIRC! It is VGA only though and I was running Windows Vista Home Premium on it in Media Center mode about 15 years back. I was going to put this up for sale if it wasn't the need for it to be a home for my emulation PC bits.
