I am not having a go at you but I just find it hard to believe that an LEA could afford a 1gb internet pipe which is the top of the line internet connection. I can understand that you could have a 1gb fibre link back to the LEA, we have almost the same here, that is not the internet link that is only the wan link and not the actual internet speed. Our LEA have a 100mb internet connection.

If you sieze the roles from DC01 and then restore DC01 from a known good backup, DC01 will comeback online thinking it's the holder of the master roles. Why don't you just transfer/sieze the roles from DC01 Replace the hardware in DC01 Reinstall server fresh Let them replicate. Job done

We run ours on a seperate server that just services the DPS clients. Its a twin 3gig xeon machine with 4 gig. What spec of server you running it on and what are the spec of your clients, also whats your backbone speed.

We have had our Job Evaluations here in Portsmouth LEA, I went along for the interview with the consultant. I went for the interview due to the fact that out of the other network managers in the area I am the only one along with my technicians who install everything the school needs from CAT5 through to projectors and plasma screens. I felt that it was important that my job description was taken into account with the amount we do. The interview ended with the consultant saying to me that I and my staff represented "extreme value for money and we could get a lot more for the work we do in other parts of the public sector let alone in the private sector" which I found to be positive. We are still waiting for the results to be released in Portsmouth, we just wait in hope
