  1. It's irrelevant because its not actually out NOW.
  2. Geoff thats irrelevant it's not out yet. Dos you can turn off the nagging, I am running it on my home and work system and get no nagging at all.
  3. There is a difference in PM disabling it and actually disabling the entire chip. Most 3D cards handle both 3D and 2D and by actually switching off the card via hardware rather than allowing the software to do it is just stupid. You wonder why there are problems. I have found Vista to be a superb update from XP.
  4. How can you call it a Vista ready laptop when Vista is not due out for another 6-8 months? We all know how quickly tech updates so testing it now and saying it's shit is a bit unfair really.
  5. Why would you want to disable the 3d driver? I still do not get the point.
  6. Gee what ever next, if you disable the sound card in vista the sound don't work!!
  7. We use the GFI suite, works well. We have GFI Mail Essentials Mail Security and Archiver.
  8. I bought this http://www.millsltd.co.uk/productDetail.cfm?partNo=C00-8328
  9. Aye that would work
  10. I agree with pete, sounds to me like it's the Linux Client that has the problem not the MS server.
  11. You also need to factor in the fact that really the drives should be wiped to military standard to ensure 100% that you comply with Data Protection.
  12. We do cabling ourselves, no wait, no problem!
  13. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an Internet protocol for automating the configuration of computers that use TCP/IP. DHCP can be used to automatically assign IP addresses, to deliver TCP/IP stack configuration parameters such as the subnet mask and default router, and to provide other configuration information such as the addresses for printer, time and news servers. It's not a windows problem, its required. Each time you reboot the client it says to the DHCP can I have the address I am leased, the server says yes. DHSP holds the lease not the client. DHCP is not broken on windows and is working as intended.
  14. They will never stop the Warez Scene. Hurrah!
  15. We use a similar system here, we back up the curriculum network files onto a NAS which is mirrored. Admin network backs up to tape on an Ultrium 3
  16. Our teachers have unlimited space. We just reign them in if it gets to large.

    Secure Folder

Passworded folders will not be available in the final professional edition of Vista I read. This was because major business did not want users creating a password protected directory where all kinds of crap could be installed. I also expect it will be removable via GP if left in and any NM worth his salt will have it disabled straight away.
  18. We bought CS2 full educational version, but we paid £130 per unit, we also use The Gimp. We thought the important thing was that if pupils need a drawing package is to get them to actually use the proper software they will use in the real world.

We use Spector CNE ( although its not working properly at the moment ). Spector monitors everything that happens on a PC then Emails an address of your choice whith the violation details as they happen. It takes screenshots all the time and you can tailor it to a timeframe you want for example ours is set to screenshot every 20 secs but if a keyword is triggered it screenies every 2 seconds for 2 mins to capture exactly what the pupil is doing. It's been great but as I say its not mailing at the moment which is a bind.

I read that MS had taken that 'feature' out?

  22. We use backup Exec 10 and had exactly the same issue , our quantum superloaded just dropped off. I did this in the end and it worked. 1.Bought an HP Ultrium 960 which takes 8 x 800gig tapes (this made no difference I just thought I would show it off ) 2.Unistalled Veritas. 3.Uninstalled the tape drive. 4. removed it from Removable storage manager in windows. 5.reinstalled Veritas 6.Worked fine after that. Now this problem occurred on both the quantum and the HP so I know it was not the hardware, so try my list and see if it solves it for you.
  23. We do not give the kids email here but if I decided to I would just use their username [email protected]. Does not give away sex age or ID, all that is given away is first initial and surname.
  24. What smack in the face is that then
