interpriting show run could be fun on an ASA.. ASDM will have the firewall page but one would realy need to see a screen shot of it to start advising on how it is set up and how to adjust it. There is a packet tracer in ASDM though which will tell you what if anything is going to block the traffic. As a starting point for learning firewalling the ASA is like learning to fly starting with a space shuttle rather than a Cessna LOL... Rob

You can consider wireless P2P somethign like Deliberant or Ubiquiti do solutions for ~150 a link and you don't have any cost on top. Nano Station M5's work well. You don't need perfect line of site but it will help . There is a link planner somewher on Ubiquities website too. Failing that a 100 on 100 4 node MPLS will probably be your best bet. otherwise you will be paying for 6 endpoints if you go for 3 Leased Lines. Rob

You need to quantify your request, Size , users , bandwidth, geography. Etherenet Extension Services (old term now it is SHDS and was previously LES) is just a type of leased line. Rob

In this instance yes, we are assuming all wireless. And we use the MERU internal firewall to prevent traffic. We are thinking about putting Cisco port security on all fixed ports, it's a very easy task to implement but may be tedious to administer long term. Rob

P.S.... We have also prevented peer-2-peer connections on the wireless to prevent students from connecting to each other using our network. Both to reduce bandwidth miss(use) and keep pupils laptops secure from each other. Rob

Similar to FN-GM the students must register for the service ( 6FM only ) and accept the extended BYOD Policy. When they connect they get ONLY a connection to our VDI desktop environment and nothing else, so the experience is almost the same as using one of our own devices. Only launched a couple of weeks back and waiting to see what the take up is. Rob

What is your firewall/proxy device? ABtutor is a very cost effective solution over Imperio/NetSupport. We used to "RollOurOwn" with a squid Proxy, some custom scripts and a web page. Unless the teacher turned it on the internet was off. Was hated by staff for about 3 weeks until they "GOT IT" and then loved for 5 years until we moved to our new network and the functionality was lost. 2 years on we may just have got NetSupport able to do it for us. Good riddance to the horrid little things, We have Toshiba in next week to fix the hinges on all 300 of ours despite the fact they supposed to be RTB. Interestingly, I looked at the power subsystem on our C7000 Bladecenter earlier in the week. It's drawaing 2.3Kw That's 14 Physical Blades 3 Blades running 26 Virtual Servers on 1 Blade running 1 Physical Server 10 Blades runnign 44 Virtual Desktops, so that's 467 Computers for 2.3Kw...... Rob

Yes, companies will offer an emergancy uncontracetd service. But you need to sort it out first, often they have a base cost and then a per incident model. Or a "Credits" model. Be aware though that they willl spend some of your support payment familiarising themself before they even get close to fixing a problem. Rob
