Yep. As dumb as they may be, they have to do it as it's their DNS record relating to the static IP address when doing a reverse lookup. You could also ask them if they have a SMTP mail realy you can use for outbound mail on the vida control pannel create a new A record mail. mail1.leaf.bournemouth.sch.uk 84.45.115.120 create an MX record pointing to mail1.leaf.bournemouth.sch.uk Do you have filtering??

Make sure your ISP also puts in a reverse DNS pointer for your server IP. Do you have any inbound spam/virus protection , this may have previously been done by your RBC. Our mail goes in and out via a ClearOS mail relay for filtering. Rob

I use a Draytek at home but all my routers over the last few years have been high end stuff. Cisco 1841 with ADSL wic. Cisco 877W DrayTek 2830N Rob

I doubt it will make a difference, the LEA router is expecting all IP's to be on the same subnet/vlan. But 75% are now on other vlans and the LEA router has no idea that it needs a next hop IP to get to these other VLANS. TT

back then it was a linux box, now we are on a cisco ASA5520 but you probably don't want one of them. Free - pFsense would do the job if you have an old PC with 2 NICS . Or you could use somethink like a Draytek 2830N which has a wan port ( well 3 actualy ) and 4 internal ports. Your probably going to have to change your internal IP adressing away from a clash with the LEA though. At least it gets you ready for teh day when you dump the LEA. Rob

They need their router to have the subnet changed and then 3 further static routing entries for the 3 other vlans usign the core as the next hop address. Simple stuff but LEA's don't like to do it. We always used to hide behind our own firewall ( own internal IP ranges ) and just a single RBC address on the outside. Saved our bacon once when they got a virus out of control. Proxy with upstream proxy will work for soem stuff but anythign trying non standard protcols will not work. Rob

One supplier on here gave me a Gr8 quote as a first batting. took 2 months to deliver the item and then totaly screwed up on the second thing we tried to order from then by selling us a totaly useless warranty. I hate companies that ring up and when we tell them we have just spent our capitation or completed our main procurement for the next year they still persist in askinig if they can help. Companies that ask about print cartridges and we tell them we have pay per print service contract and don't go away. Companies that ring back even though you have said that we will contact them if we want a quote. I don't mind a cold call as long as they get the message in under ten seconds that we are not in the market for anything. Companies that ring up as a cold call and have not looked at previous history of trading with us. Can't say we have had a decent account manager on many suppliers in a long time, usualy why the previous comment seems to be comon. Rob

According to the user manual the GS724 supports 802.1Q Vlan Trunks, make sure the port is set as a trunk. The AP should support 802.1Q too. Rob

As all ports 1-3 are on the same vlan then there is no need for a DHCP helper between the client and the dhcp server on the switch. Tests to do, Plug in a PC insted of the UNIFI and see if that gets an IP, if not then set a static .19. IP on the laptop and confirm you can ping the home hub. If you can't ping the home hub then you need to check the switch setup. If you do get the DHCP with a PC plugged in and not with the WIFI then chech on the UNIFI for DHCP relay settings that may need to be altered. TT
