That just seems to be a reminder that laptops need to meet requirements. I've not read 14.25, but ensuring the laptop is consistent just seems to be pointing to the rules. So if they have 1:1 then you need a second exam user on the device that will meet the requirements, and probably lock out off site, or as you say, extra laptops to use for exams.

We don't do it, and I don't know if this will affect that service, but I have heard good of OverDrive.

The issue is, you don't know what you don't know and can't always see tangible benefits for things you haven't experienced. Slight hyperbole but if you wanted to enter F1 and you had your car and you were happy with it, it goes pretty fast, finishes the race, with some modifications takes corners brilliantly you would think you had a pretty damned good product and would be confident. When you rolled out a Robin Reliant everyone else might think differently. Currently you are happy where you are and doing what you are doing, but could something new help you do it better in a different way? Is where you are good because you have reached the limits of what that system can do? It is really tricky to overcome corporate inertia and there will be an organisational fear of change. Is it worth it? That is up to the organisation to decide, but flipping it around, can the school afford not to?

It is one of those lines you have to decide if you (and the organisation) want to walk. An alternative is to ensure all unused ports are unpatched and any that need to stay patched are set to a default VLAN that just gets dumped out and has no access to any onsite services. It does mean an authorised device can not be connected, but how often do staff plug devices into a port, rather than connect to wi-fi, and if they do how often is it not part of a plan you are involved with? This does not prevent devices being unplugged and an attacker plugging in to that port though. You have to risk assess the likelihood and potential issues against the cost of a system to do the access control.

Most certainly. I remember when they finally made the move from DOS modules and that was a drawn out complicated affair, even then everyone was looking to move but didn't have the inertia. As someone else mentioned it has been an open secret that no one in the company full understands the code base anymore, it had sprawled and been added to and added to, never properly integrated or simplified.

I think I can safely say that all the big players come close, pass and then surpass SIMS by a long way. I was going to write a simile between SIMS and an infectious disease but it got too long and tortuous. Lets just say the bits you know are the issue and shouldn't be under played. As for what will happen when SIMS goes to the cloud? A large part of me thinks it never will, it will rumble along, promises made, never delivered, and bits may end up web based but overall it will just get messier and more disjointed.

Is this a specific module within Schoolhire? Have you looked at the Dev console within the browser and seen if something is being blocked?

Generally I advise against sending out attachments, though that is a personal bugbear anyway. Make it part of the body or make it a link. Our report distribution is part of the MIS, they get uploaded to a parent portal and then we email the parents to say the reports are available on the portal and to go get them. This has the added benefit of Parents knowing where they are so cuts admin of having to resend reports that have gotten 'lost'. So the best question is, what MIS are you using?

Update your AD Display names, they will sync through and Exchange should update the changes. Test with a single to prove.

We use Intune and set them up as kiosks. Can scan a QR-Code to initiate set up and have the enrollment name used as an attribute for a dynamic group to assign policies to. Then use the Kiosk mode to push out icons and apps. Works well as long as the staff remember they can't do anything except what has been planned.

I've not used the API, but should be feasible, as vikpaw says.

I did at my last place. I think I used the site connector program they had to connect to the iSAMS database, as if it was onsite. That way the IP whitelist still worked, as the connection came from our site, but the online BI could access it. You have asked for access to the DB all ready? It isn't there by default. If you had it in the past, check the details as iSAMS completely changed the details a bit ago. First thing to check is can you use SQL Server Manager to connect and go from there.

How are you getting over the no anon access to SharePoint? I've been trying to get a Careers information hub setup for parents and pupils and can't find anyway to allow parental access without giving them logins.

Ah, we never used it with Pupils, this was purely for staff.

Previous place I had iSAMS linked to Paxton, first with a system called AD2Net, then using Salamander. Worked really well, though still manually had to assign cards. Pulled photos through, if they were put in, so we could just print card, assign it and hand the card out.

Not as expensive as you think for Verkada must be relative. We were quoted around £510 a sensor, which is not something we can afford, especially when there are 12 toilets that would need kitting out. SV11 has been usurped, so they are selling them cheap to make way for the new sensor (that is my interpretation so may be me being cynical though). Be careful as the rep I spoke to was pushing the SV21 and I had to point out that it does not do vape detection. If you have floor to ceiling cubicles you need a sensor per cubicle. Kerching. I'd love to sensor everything up. I've seen some that can pick up aggression, naughty words, estimate numbers and loud noises, which would all be great to detect. But the cost is a concern, and the license is another annual payout on the budget.

Best to speak to the sales rep, but my understanding is that Ed:Gen is iSAMS but a bit more rigid in what can be done, customised or adjusted, to try and keep costs and support down. It is aimed at state schools. I think some modules are removed as well, fee billing for one, and some are not available.
