The price of fuel is a bit eye watering on the Isle of Wight - typically 15p more per litre (if you're driving)! Other than that, it's a lovely place to visit and feels typically British!

[bromcom] Biostore / Fastrak Biometric Registration?
Michael replied to s1monb's topic in MIS Systems
Here's a list of their partners. Failing that, Bromcom do operate a free API, so it might be possible for Biostore to integrate just like other cashless systems. -
Backup Schedule how do you do it?
Michael replied to johbreaking's topic in Learning Network Manager
Full backups weekends, incrementals during the week. -
If you need to link a setting in several places within your structure, then create it its own GPO and link it where required.

Exactly It's not a good enough reason in my view. Not believing in something and giving justifications as to why are two different things!

Curious why you're all self hosted in the first place? Why didn't you opt for the cloud version or have you even evaluated the cloud version?
-
Enterprise/Education are almost identical. It's only lately there are now some differences, as Arthur highlighted some weeks ago. Microsoft have started to release Delta Updates, so as long as you perform upgrades in order - May > June > July, then it'll work. If you installed May and then July, you'd need the full version of the installer for that month.

Education x64, 1607, all the way!

I think this is the problem - logging what happens on a removable USB device is very impractical. Logging what everyone does in the cloud is easier, but then what does this actually prove? If I hack x users account, all the logging appears in their name... I can't help but think there are huge holes in GDPR already. How long would we need to keep logs? I think the issue with GDPR is over a short period of time, it will create thousands or even millions of entries. Just completely unmanageable, so the guidelines need to be precise and not suggestive. All down to interpretation then, which creates even more holes.

What we're all forgetting (regardless of MIS), is that it'll become law from mid next year, so really the onus is on developers to update their software to comply. Now hypothetically speaking, if Capita (for example), were not to comply then really they as the solutions provider could expect fines or more. As above PhilNeal has clearly said they're awaiting guidance from the ICO, so I'm sure changes would/could take place as early as the Autumn 2017, Spring 2018 or Summer 2018 would still give enough time to comply. In a way this already sort of happens with the DfE - they'll change/update the criteria what information is required from schools and all MIS providers update their software to comply.
-
The advantages of any cloud based MIS are - - No physical/virtual server to manage - No server refresh every 3-5 years & migration/running costs - No SQL licenses to buy - No disruption to end users performing application updates, for the likes of Census - Accessible anywhere, school and at home - Start integrating services natively into the MIS - such as Assessment instead of using a third party - Very much Academy/MAT friendly, working from multiple sites and so on...

Looks like OneDrive to Azure may be possible
-
Thing is, you also have to question are backups necessary in the cloud. Azure makes 6 copies (3 per datacentre), per cycle, and I suspect copies of OneDrive data must also be made in different locations.
-
OneDrive for Business I believe has a 30 day recycle bin. Likewise deleted e-mails are kept in line with your data retention policies. Maybe worth exploring whether or not Azure Backup will backup OneDrive.

Office 365 remove original message when replying
Michael replied to spacehopper's topic in Office Software
You can with Outlook 2016, but, you're just as well to start a new e-mail. Would be more straight forward I'd have thought? Not sure it's possible with OWA. -
I wouldn't say impossible, just exceptionally difficult. I'd say it's borderline dangerous or mis-leading to say any programme is impossible to break, irrelevant if it has sandboxing or not. This is why iOS has regular updates, which include both improvements and security enhancements.

Indeed they won't/can't remove the page, but just restrict access. An iPad virus isn't impossible though, it's just more difficult being a closed system.
-
Google will block pages with Malware though, so they do indeed scan pages, in addition to your local AV.

Look at the URL in the first screen shot. It doesn't look legit to me at all.

Yes I've managed a project where they've done exactly this SIMS > Bromcom. Top of my head all data went across without any significant issues. As with any migration, there will be teething problems, however their support is 1st class it has to be said.

I've had this still this morning, but changing to https://outlook.office365.com/ from https://login.microsoftonline.com/ does the trick.
-
Morning all, Is is just me, or is O365 going round in circles trying to sign in? Have had numerous Birmingham schools with the same issue, so not sure if it's a BGfL problem (caching/proxy), or possibly something else? Resetting IE to defaults appears to clear it, but then the problem can re-appear too.

Right to delete from backups
Michael replied to enjay's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
And how will this work with Azure Backup? Working to 180 days (my retention policy), I could have 180 different copies of a single file, amended everyday. -
Apparently a very small percentage of users had weak passwords, but you'd think password complexity rules would be enabled as standard?
