Hi, I have the following text in one of my policies - Do i need to change/update it in light of GDPR or is it fine as it is given that it is still currently the Data Protection Act 1998 as the current GDPR stuff is a Bill and hasn't been formally approved yet? We just list it in our Privacy Notice as a service we share data with. Processing under Legal Obligation to educate the child and we are choosing to use Google to do this.

Agreed no reason not to VM for your file server! We are 100% virtual and have no issues.

We've been RM for just over 6 months and have been very happy with the service and haven't had a second of Downtime, firewall requests are dealt with quickly. I'd really recommend them. Have you contacted someone at RM about your issues the support team are really useful.

We've just recently moved over to MACiOS cloud via Counterpoint which is an online MDM for Macs - It uses Addigy behind the scenes but all seems to be working well and they are very good especially with a Shared Mac set up with Dual Home directories etc.

We tried this as we could tell from the logs who was using them but SLT having to chase 14-15 students a day wasn't worth the agro! I then ended up having to chase them down and agreed so ended up spending days blocking every little URL/Port that i suspected was being used until it was no longer working! Touch wood we still appear to be VPN free.

XVPN is more of a challenge. I have sent you my list of URL's and also the additional settings i was advised to apply by Lightspeed and we've now succesfully managed to block XVPN.

We use CareMonkey which is an online medical system - We have approx a 97% uptake across students which is great. It is an australian based company who have now also moved into the UK market we where one of the first schools in the UK - definitely worth checking out. It does similar things to Consent2Go.

Hi, Okay having enabled this we've had two false alarms in the last 24 hours (Staff activating it without knowing). We haven't even sent out the key presses yet. Either a more complex set of keys is required or a pop up that says are you sure you want to activate 'Emergency response' so that they have to confirm they want to send it? Are either of these feasible and if so in what timescale? I've had to disable it for now due to the accidental triggers. Regards, Dean.

That was my first comment although the Deputy Head is fairly insistent that the students would have to know what they where looking for or the keyboard shortcut or similar to trigger it and hopefully we'd able to track it back to the machine it was initiated from and the staff members account and then they would be in for a rough ride as under the Data Protection Policy in school all machines should be LOCKED when not in use our staff are fairly good at this as it is well policed by SLT. I am hoping to go down the Keyboard shortcut route.

Sounds good - How do I go about setting it up so that all staff can send the message? It needs to be fairly idiot proof so that even a cover supervisor who was only here for one day could do it I like the idea of it showing the machine name it was triggered from as well.

I'm not saying it will be done by email but I need a simple way for any member of teaching or support staff to initiate the lockdown notification message to all screens without relying on a few people who have access to the console to send messages as these people may not be sat at their desk when it needs to be initiated etc.

Hi Everyone, So the school have now realised that our Lockdown procedure has a few flaws! I've now been tasked with coming up with a simple solution so that anyone in the school can trigger a 'Lockdown Procedure' notification to all machines in the school in as few clicks as possible! Is this something i could do with NetSupport Notify either through an email tie in so for example staff send an email to an address saying 'Lockdown' and it automatically sends out a pre-defined notification to all screens or a command line tie in so staff click a button and it runs a script that triggers a notification to all screens saying follow lockdown procedure. Any other suggestions or what other schools do would be appreciated? Regards, Dean.

Has anyone actually got Docker and Xibo working correctly. We are looking to do this on a Server 2016 VM. My colleague has been putting it off for a while and i'm hoping someone has successfully managed this so i can point him in the right direction.

Not really - One server that 50 users can use would surely outweigh the power requirements of leaving 50 machines on and setting up 50 VPN usernames/passwords etc.

Hi, We replaced CC4Anywhere with CC4Access due to the cost of licensing approx a year ago. Running on a 2016 Server. Works very well for remote access. You have the options to disable printers, clipboard etc just ask the RM Engineer when is setting it up. It is basically just a CC4 Member server with the Microsoft RDS components on top. We haven't had any issues with it. Dean.

We have a Mac Server with 10gb network connection and a 12tb LACIE Thunderbolt storage unit and all the Mac Clients are 1Gb back to a 48 port switch with 2 x 10gb links back to the core switch and we don't suffer any issues when editing large logic/final cut projects over the network.

Hi, you probably can now - Dell servers are still coping well. We brought the best processors at the time can't remember what they where and we went 128gb memory. We are about 3 years old. We've started moving some services to the cloud so are actually using less resources on it now. We're VM Ware. I think i got quoted 26k for one the other week latest servers/processors and 128gb memory, 10gb nics etc with a 5 year NBD warranty. Dean.
