  1. Thank you maturelady very useful as well! Could you argue for example that sharing information with Show My Homework is covered under Point 4/5 or would we need explicit consent from Parents/Students to share this data with SMH.
  2. Hi, Thanks for the useful replies @GrumbleDook
  3. Has anyone made a good start on an Information Audit and if so would they mind sharing what their spreadsheet currently looks like via PM. I haven't started yet and want to make sure we are starting on the right lines! Thanks, Dean.
  4. Hi, I have a few things that i am confused about with regards to GDPR. Can anyone provide a definitive answer please. 1) We currently have 'non-explicit' consent to use Student/Parental details as provided on the 'Request for Information' sheet completed at the start of Year 7 or when a child starts if joining in year. This currently has an 'Opt Out' box and we have no one that has opted out of us sharing details required for the education of their Son/Daughter. We are changing this to an 'Opt In' box going forward to comply with GDPR. The issue - Do we have to re-gain consent from all the 1200 parents that we currently technically have permission from? 2) Should third party suppliers such as Show My Homework, Kerboodle etc be approaching us to confirm they are compliant with GDPR or do we need to contact them and request this and what is it exactly we need from them. Do we have to compile and store all of these so they are available should we need them. 3) What happens with regards to Staff. Should they be signing an agreement that allows us to share their information with third parties such as SMH, Strictly education (Our payroll provider) etc. Thanks for anyone who can help. Regards, Dean.
  5. Our Local Authority run a course for £99 very reasonable and a few of our site team have completed it.
  6. The passwords are stored in the Data Protection folder on the Staff Shared area on the network. We haven't had anyone writing them down or sharing with other people. The two shortest passwords are used the most commonly so most people know these off the top of their head. We use 5 'Common' passwords and change these anually and they are announced at the first INSET day at the start of term. It has worked really well. Dean.
  7. We operate a policy of having 5 'school' passwords that all staff have access to and then in the body of the email we just reference the passwords by numbers and everyone who should know what they are knows! They are NEVER sent via email or to external organisations. That way if a slip up like this occurs the person doesn't have access to the contents. Regards, Dean.
  8. Or why not just allow staff to bring their own laptop to work and RDS in to the network. Given that 80/90% of staff will already own a device. We provide a small number of older desktop machines in office (rippled down when the IT Suites are replaced) One is designated for the Head of department and the rest are hot desk machines. Staff can bring their own laptops in if they wish. They also have remote access from home. We no longer provide laptops. A definite saving for the IT Budget.
  9. We use Spiceworks as well for our IT Helpdesk, Our Cover Helpdesk and our Site team are just about to move over too it!
  10. Probably me being really thick ... I am planning to deploy this tomorrow via Silent Install. I assume i can push the MSI out by silent install and then use the Group Policy ADM/ADMX templates to configure all the required settings or am i going to have to mess around with ini/dat files? Dean.
  11. Nope we had no issues and still don't to this day.
  12. I have managed to successfully block this. I just set up a URL pattern off all the suspected URL's until it stopped. I found them by using the 'Top Traffic by domain' report. We had about 250-300 students using it across the school and they where all very annoyed i've had teachers commenting on how they have been saying they where told it could never be blocked etc etc. If you want the list of URL's i have blocked and confirmed the app has stopped working please PM me i don't want to publicise it as it was about 2 days work!!!
  13. We have a Dell VRTX (Not installed by RM) and absolutely love it! It's been rock solid - 3 blades VM Ware HA Cluster and it all just works!
  14. Hi, Yes most of the training is at the Brighton/Hove head office so it depends how far you are from there. But i travel 2 hours on a train and normally stay over night etc.
  15. Have you actually looked at the CC4 Log files for print mapping to confirm this is the cause of the printers disappearing as my understanding was you don't have to use the CC4 Print delivery method and can deliver via GPP if you so wish. I don't see why the pop up boxes don't appear we have printers that require authentication pop up boxes and have no issues (Once we had turned on balloon notification on Windows 7) This is disabled on RM by default and i suspect might be the cause of your issue?
  16. We use Overnet Edulink and we have just rolled it out to Parents to give them access to pupil data and all feedback we have is postive. The support team at Overnet have been fantastic and they are even looking to build additional functionality we have requested into the app such as the ability for staff to take Detention registers etc.
  17. We use Solutions Inc - They do an annual support plan which also includes Certified Mac Training at various points through the year also allowing you to gain the certified apple certificates as well should you wish.
  18. Has anyone managed to block this completely apart from those using Opendium? How much is this out of curiosity?
  19. OOO this would be amazing!
  20. Interested in this - Our pastoral team want something similar! We have just stopped sending paper letters and send a text message to all parents with a line that states they can look through the VLE if they wish to see more details about the detention (this then shows the behaviour events/comments from SIMS)
  21. We have both Autograph and 2D Design running on Windows 10 but agree 2D design hasn't been upgraded in years!
  22. If you do do it yourself can you post based on how you get on as i may look at having a look at doing it ourselves.
  23. Hi, Yes i've just revisited our quote was £5,600 for 5 doors so approx £1,100 per door. Is this about the going rate then? I'd love the system but have never been able to convince everyone of £5,600's worth of benefit!!!!!! I love the idea of intergrating with cashless catering as well as we use ID Store. Regards, Dean.
  24. How are people affording a paxton system. We got quoted for this and it was approx £5,000 per door!!!! Or are people buying the kit themselves and doing a self install?
  25. Hi, We just disabled the 'TILE' part of the start menu by pushing out a Blank XML file and forcing people to use the standard scroll bar style start menu which is very similar to Windows 7 and no one has asked where it is! Currently you can ONLY do an XML file with native Windows apps so maps, calculator etc which isn't much use as most people are going to want to Pin Chrome, Office etc which are the commonly used applications. Hopefully they are going to fix this in the creators update. Yes profile resets are a pain but it's sometimes good to have a clear out! We have re-directed staff desktops to a 'Desktop' folder in their N Drive and changed the re-direction to solve the problem of them losing everything on their desktop everytime we needed to do a reset obviously they still loose shortcuts and pinned taskbar icons but not alot you can do about this unfortunately.
