We did ^ however be aware that some Mac software wont save to Windows Servers (Logic in our case) so you may need an additional file storage solution (ours is extra iMac as a file server). Works OK - users can authenticate but we have no GP (obviously), file saving etc - literally just bound for logins. Our "home folders" are mapped by script which gives them access to a relevant area and then we set permissions on folders from there.

We have dist. groups for each year - with the head of year in each one. If a pupil sends something daft then they are pulled in by the HOY (and normally again by me) for a "talk". Usually one or two a term and the message gets around. If pupils are sending useful stuff around then thats fine.

Mapping a drive to a network folder and scan that. Works fine here.

Could you create local GP's on each laptop to lock them down (standalone laptop but means they cant break anything). As for monitoring what their doing - surely thats their parents job if they are at home? EDIT: BTW I hate things like this as you have a level of responsibility but most of your tools are taken away. Make sure you get a good tight letter that they sign accepting responsibility for loss, damage and use!

Going back to One Note I have to say Im a recent convert (as of yesterday). Before then I never really got the point of it - but I was drawing out our backup systems and wanted a piece of software where I could write up here, draw lines a bit over here add notes along side. Started doing it in Word and thought - "this is clumsy there has to be a better way". Remebered about One Note and the penny dropped. Its great for sprawling diagrams etc. Back on topic Notepad++, FolderSize & PSTools are always in my toolkit!

We have a number of Sync and store trolley sets of Ipads - however we want to make them more available to staff. Currently the cases of 25 are too big & heavy for staff to move around up and down stairs (2 guys to carry a case up) so I suggested keeping the trollies to a floor and room swapping. However SMT want to find ways of moving the Ipads to the students. I dont like the idea of 25 little Johnnies carrying them up and downstairs (they are in protective cases though) or chucking 10 of them in a box for the staff to then carry back and fore to the classroom, but am open to ideas. How do you do it and any recommendations?

I've moved over to Paint.net for low end graphics stuff, its free and covers everything I need on a a daily basis. Adding to FMS -> SIMS Exams module, I've worked with SIMS for around 10 years and I dont think either have ever changed!

We are running HAP V9 - been working great for over a year - but suddenly last week it stopped working. When accessing the site you can login but it starts generating a load of errors: Message from webpage - Not Found. Nothing has changed on the server!
