I'll be moving from the Desire S in few months - the S3 is certainly #1 on my list at the moment!

Hmm... are they therefore going to sue other shops that are setup the same? I've been in orange shops etc which meet that design criteria. Apple are going mental. Take an existing idea (laptop, tablet PC, Mp3 player, shop etc), make it popular, aggressively trade mark it and sue the competition to force them out of the market. Everyone hide the fruit bowls!!

I found the CC4 imaging slow and really annoying sorting out drivers (vista versions!!) and messing around regenerating the image. Also we found it would randomly fail on the PXE build (restart the server and it works fine - but cant do this in the middle of the day) I've resorted now to a preconfigured vanilla image with all the updates, UAC & firewall disabled - chuck image on (about 10 mins) change name and smart client. Haven't run any proper times to test the speed but less faff and seems quicker to me!

I sent ours out on Friday - I VNC'd into my machine to do it through SIMS itself (I did set up the webportal but I felt it was easier to do it through the tried and trusted at 6am!). Delivery times seemed fine - my phone went off after 30 seconds. However I've had 5 members of staff say they never received it, strange as they have received my test text that I send out 2 weeks ago. SIMS say everything sent successfully - has anyone had any similar issues?

No documentation unfortunately - I only ran a quick proof of concept. There were two ways - using the QR code to hold a unique number (so no difference from a barcode or ID Tag which is what the company were doing) or storing information about the item in the code (which is what I was testing). I used QR Code Generator to generate a code stuck some information in about a PC, printed then scanned with QRDroid on my phone. It worked but I found it too cumbersome with the 600 - 800 items we would need it for. I'm sure someone who is a bit smarter than me might be able to make it work for them!!

Just anticipating someone jumping in with the "yeah but if its saved locally what use is it in a fire" comment We had a trial by a company that wanted £3k for a fancy system using Ipods and QR codes - problem is behind the shiny front end it was a standard database. Taking that as a starting idea and customising it to what our bursar wanted took about an hour to setup in Access. You could download a free QR reader for your phone and print them off yourself if you wanted to be clever - I found it quicker using standard ID tags and typing the code in. I think Spiceworks had something in there as well - could do something in sharepoint maybe.

Depends what you are using it for and any access specification (web access, user authentication etc). Ours was just an internal database incase of a fire etc to keep track of anything we felt was of value (PC's, cameras, etc) - I just set one up in MS Access (yes it is being backed up to a remote location!).
