  1. Artificial Intelligence: AI It dragged on and on, I nearly walked out of the cinema when the aliens visited earth.......
  2. Do they have any third party software pre-installed? May be worth trying building one from scratch yourself if so and testing.
  3. Thanks both! I found the culprit, it was the disable changing home page settings. Would never have spotted it from the Setting title though.... Michael, I owe you a pint or two!!!
  4. I'm having an annoying problem with Home page settings for pupils. A few weeks ago we changed the structure of our Intranet and Internet sites, and set our Intranet site up with SSL. This meant changing the hompage URL, I reset this for all users using their respective GPO settings and thought that was it... however a high number of pupils still have the old address when opening IE, though staff seem okay. We're running on a .2008 domain I have done the following to troubleshoot: - Run GPresult, the settings are okay - Checked different OSs, the problem exists on XP, Vista and 2008 TS (I'm aware of the pre SP3 issue with folder redirection/IE settings on XP). - Tested using a new user - Tried different loopback settings, and without loopback. - Tried setting using GPO preferences rather than in the usual policy location - Setting the option to apply Internet settings even if policy hasn't changed - Banged my head against the wall - Searching google and edugeek! Hoping someone here can come up with a few other suggestions! Thanks Joe
  5. Have you checked that the shares it's synchronising are still not set to make available offline?
  6. You're never going to win the lottery with those numbers
  7. I'd be interested to know as well! We have ce5 pro Thin Clients and Server 2008 TS
  8. It is entertaining! Glad to see they also had a hard time over the IT, though being in Wales and at a brand new PFI school I hope we escape this fiasco......
  9. You have to be careful who you ask here, I've seen some some cracking quality work and some that's definitely bodgit and scarper standard! It's likely we'll be going the fuse box route
  10. pics attached! it's not your eyes, they are a bit blurry, the light wasn't too good......
  11. That could be the way forward as I haven't found anything else yet
  12. We've had a new AV setup in our main hall, which comes with a faceplate and control panel mounted on a wall. The company that have done the work have not been able to supply a cover, or other means of protecting these from pasties, beans and chips, etc I've searched google but can't find a suitable lockable panel to protect it. Has anyone any suggestions!? Thanks edit: size is about 12" x 12"
  13. it was uceprotect.net, I found it by trawling through the logs. Learnt something new today (i.e. where the relevant logs are!) As well as running scripts in exchange powershell. Amazing how much has been blocked by the RBLs :spam1: !! Just have to keep an eye for any other false positives, from research it looks like talktalk were blacklisted when their mail servers went down last week....... Thanks guys
  14. Definitely Spamhaus - ZEN I think. I'll check the other tomorrow. Maybe I've gone too far the other way now..... Cheers local, I hoped it was that way round as I've checked and checked on blacklists and our server isn't listed anywhere (thankfully!)
  15. Not sure if this is the right forum.... I set my parents up on talktalk e-mail last weekend (they've just gone onto broadband, finally!), when they e-mail me they get the following bounce back (as does another TalkTalk user). I can't decide if it's our server bouncing them or TalkTalk not liking us! I have recently added RBLs to our Exchange Server and have seen a reduction in Spam (we use Sophos Puremessage as well) so am reluctant to take them off.....
  16. Perhaps your head should be providing you with a list of what they want out of the system first!? A few years ago I was given a very short deadline to get a VLE in, we rushed it, bought in Kaleidos (RM being the only ones to get in to see us within the deadline) and several years later nobody is using it.......... It's a PITA but if I were you I would fight as much as possible not to rush into this - also you need teachers on board or have SMT encouraging them to use it! As for Moodle, sorry not much experience there!
  17. No chuckie egg for you then!
  18. I generally use my work e-mail for everything (I know it's bad practice!) I do have a hotmail account I use for things where I'm likely to get spammed, etc.
  19. Not sure what that means myself! Don't even think it's Welsh!!
  20. One of our delightful pupils has made that attached, rather than being offended I find it quite amusing! Must be doing my job well!
  21. I'd wondered about it possibly being drawn on a foreign bank! as for it being more than the item, I have heard of those scams. It's all becoming clear now! Joe
  22. I've put my Bass amp and Cab for sale on Gumtree and have had the following replies (same person different e-mail accounts!!), I am convinced the following is a Scam, what puzzles me is why!? I replied to say yes it is. I'm a bit puzzled as to why he made NO reference to the fact it's a bass amp and cab for sale, just referred to them as item! So he wants to buy a heavy bass head (amp) and a very large cab and SHIP them to Italy! My question originally was going to be if anyone thought this may be genuine (I could use the cash!) but now I'm convinced it's a scam, but I can't work out how it's going to work! Any one any ideas?
  23. Thanks for all the advice. We had our opening today and we successfully streamed the proceedings to classrooms! For anyone else interested we used Windows media encoder, 2008 Server media services and my techs Dads DV Camera Points learnt - use an XP machine for the encoding, there are issues with Vista. For high quality video encoding use a beefy processor, the encoding didn't seem to be RAM heavy though. If the output seems juddery on the encoding machine don't panic, as I found out it's actually okay on the PCs of those watching! Joe
  24. Tony, youcan find out how to do it here. I was put onto this by a Sky sales rep when I signed up. TBH I've not had reason to try it myself as all works out of the box, and the router seems pretty good. Apologies to the mods if this post is not allowed!
