  1. Secondary school: 1100 pupils, 100ish staff 8 servers: 1 X 2008 DC/SQL 1x 2008 Exchange 2007/Web server plus 2 hyper V guests(1 2008R2 DC, and one Linux/koha) It would be nice to have a dedicated hyper-V host server, but that ain't going to happen! 3 X 2008R2 RDS servers 1 x 2003 WSUS/Successmaker/Exam software server 1 x 2003R2 NAS/storage server 1 x SIMS (on different domain) 1 x PC running a spare copy of 2003 server and OP Smart Monitor (rigged up to a spare 40" screen!) 400 PCs/laptops 125 Thin Clients
  2. How difficult/time consuming was this to implement? As with the OP this is something on my 'to investigate' list, and looking at the Packetfence site this looks like a good (free!) solution. Cheers
  3. K9? Never used it myself though!
  4. Judging by the posts on here it seems to be a recent thing, it's a bit sneaky of them if you ask me though! As posted in another thread, the one we had blatantly linked to a page where they were selling the information on to companies, albeit aggregated rather than as information attributable to individual schools -and there lies their get out clause..........
  5. I did mention that it wasn't mine
  6. have asked for this to be sent out to staff with our daily notice. Thanks
  7. Unfortunately you're right, and that's the way society has gone...
  8. ironic..... Article is filtered out by Websense
  9. DVDs for free lessons.....
  10. The classic person out of their "normal place where you'd see them" syndrome! It amazes me how much info barbers/hairdresser's remember, must be part of their training!
  11. Nope, straight on as normal. My bandwidth has drastically dropped over time though. On Plusnet I was getting 1.5MB, switched to Sky and went down to about 1MB, now I seem to be only getting 384Kb!! As we're moving soon I'm not going to worry too much....
  12. @kipling Thanks for the book suggestion, just ordered it! I've been dabbling for the last year, my best investment seems to be FOGL unfortunately as I don't have that many I won't be able to retire no matter how well they do! OP, as I'm only dabbling I just set up an Investdirect account with my bank HSBC, I only have shares in 6 companies so tracking them using a Vista gadget and spreadsheet isn't too difficult for me! I'm not likely to make a fortune so I don't have them in an ISA. Each online transaction is about £10 (I think, been a while since I bought any!)
  13. = a messy but enjoyable weekend!
  14. Playing C&C generals. Deciding whether I want to apply for a (non education) job, probably filling out form for said job and then playing in a gig tonight
  15. Cheers mate, after a c**p day that cheered me up!!! Just glad I'd finished my drink or it would now be all over my monitor!
  16. Agreed! I forced myself to watch that 3 parter, but it was a case of "What the Smeg was that". (Q - Can I say that on here!) Sometimes it's best to leave things in the past. But I live in hope it'll be good, and I dare say I'll watch them!
  17. That's what I do! had to look up FTW the other, already forgotten what it means! I also just accept sometimes that I'm not as young as I like to think I am ;-)
  18. One for the musicians! I have a phobia of playing anything in E Minor it gives me the E B G Bs
  19. With RDS you would need to do some serious testing on what apps will run under terminal services/RDS and with the likes of Photoshop,if it is does run (CS3 doesn't) then you will need to watch the RAM it uses, plus potentially CPU, HDD access, etc But, having said that, it is not a bad idea!
  20. Scratching my head with this one! One of our DCs died on Friday and I'm waiting for Fujitsu to come out and fix it. In the mean time we have 125 thin Clients offline as this server is the TS licensing server! We are well out of our grace period, and I need to get these online. Is there anyway of getting temporary licences? Or perhaps answering my own question now (thinking as I type!!) is it best to just speak to the clearing house and setup a new licensing server and remove the other when backup?
  21. good start, failed to start the service, rolled back. Tried to reinstall and the service exists, which it does..... but the program doesn't.... It is Alpha relase I suppose!
  22. It comes as an msi, wonder if there's a way of rolling it out via gpo and tracking power usage across the school!?
  23. Brilliant! Great start " I said don't go and see the first one because you'll only encourage them to make another one!!!!!" and it just gets better after that!
