    At the moment we're trying to gather numbers that would be interested in an event in Yorkshire. There is already a meet setup for East Midlands which may be closer to you. Its in Derbyshire, Holiday Inn South Normanton M1 Jct 28, Carter Lane East, South Normanton, Derbyshire, DE55 2EH Eitherway, get signed up to ANME and have a look around.

    I got the status email warning that Surfprotect was experiencing problems but ours was OK this time. We haven't had the google verification issue since last year either.

    I'm trying to help get ANME (Association of Network Managers in Education) meetings going in the Yorkshire and the Humber region and inviting as many people in the area as possible to join to make them as beneficial and good for networking as possible. If you've not heard of the ANME it's free to join and the meetings are free to attend - they're a great opportunity to meet up face to face with network managers and techies in other schools!

    Well that's it for another year, and for the first time ever the school is completely shut for the whole two weeks so I won't be coming back to work until the 7th Jan. Just one last job - compacting the VHDs. What do you mean that's not a good idea with 2 minutes to go before I leave? Have a great time everyone. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

    We have Exa here using Surfprotect Quantum on their Darklight 300 fibre service. There have been some issues the past couple of weeks, but largely we have been unaffected. We moved to an FTTC connection with Exa from the awful Leeds Learning Network in 2014. We had some issues as SSL traffic increased as the Stormshield firewall couldn't handle it. Since moving to Darklight we use our own Unifi Secure Gateway Pro, which is a vast improvement over the old Stormshield device. I find support very good, sometimes I get the impression they are very busy and can take a little while to respond, but 95% of the time they are very quick and helpful. They are also very competitive pricewise - we certainly couldn't afford a 300Mb fibre connection with anyone else when we signed up.
