If the Chromebooks don't go offsite, then just set them to connect to managed networks only - so use the WiFi network policy setting "Restrict users to connecting only to the Wi-Fi networks configured for this organisational unit" - then set to "restrict". Apply your SSID you want the devices to connect to Devices - not users. Then the devices will just connect to the SSID you want them to connect to and nothing else. If they go home - so staff,1:1 device change the policy to "Restrict users to connecting only to the Wi-Fi networks configured for this organisational unit". This stops people using WiFi hotspots onsite - but allows them to use the device offsite. I basically never deploy WiFi to users as I've never really come across a use case for that really. I've never needed to use the policy to block a network as we restrict them to the networks we deploy to them. Thats as complicated I've ever had to do and we have 11000 devices - just works.

Should be automatic. However, I've seen issues with updates on older devices. Assuming they are on the latest version of ChromeOS they should update. The use can just open up the Playstore app and manually update the app as.

We have Extreme at a number of our Secondaries and its by far the best WiFi solution we have across our 28 schools. The Extreme interface is very flexible and have a ton of options other systems don't have. However, as others have said it's not the cheapest solution - but it does support our 1:1 programmes with zero issues. AP121 are very old and would need to be replaced. AP131's are fine and we still have quite a few of them. The main issue is getting hold of the new ones as lead times seem to be quite long - WiFi 6 we have quite a few AP305's which have been great. You can use Extreme for free (max three sites in one instance) - but you will miss out on a lot of features - but we do use it like this at a few primaries. At primaries we normally just use Unifi kit (e.g. U6-Pro's in latest refreshes) as it does what they need and works without issue or any ongoing costs.

Yes - they added it in the backend for all users yesterday when I noticed the issue yesterday.

Just a heads up on yesterday - we are on Securly filtering and I had to raise a ticket as Bromcom pages did not load correctly on their SMARTPac filtering. Turning out Securly had to all cdn.jsdelivr.net in the backend. Once that was done all was fine. did not impact Chromebook users on extension filtering.

You basically go to Apps > Web and mobile Apps and add a custom SAML app e.g. Canva in our case. Or add service from the Google Workspace Marketplace - they generally pop an icon in.

Yes - you need to be paying and have your devices managed on ExtremeCloud IQ. Hivemanager is long gone.

I've never done incremental - been fine.

Aerohive are now part of Extreme Networks and have been for a while. Current firmware for the AP230 is 10.5r2 which is what we are running and works fine. 6 is ancient and 8 not much newer. I'm guessing you don't manage them via ExtremeCloud IQ - which is the way to do it now and very good. Anyways - Extreme are the people to talk to.

We don't use the UXG Pro, but we do use UDM Pros - which is almost the same thing with the controller built in. Works fine and I can see multiple site via our Unifi account. We use the alongside Securly filtering. Never given me any problems. Never tried with a greater than 1Gbps connection by they have 10Gbps LAN connection - so it should work. If you have some complex needs - it might be not have all the features you need - but we are pretty much 100% cloud - so internet connection is all they do really.

I rather like the new interface and it was put out to consultation months ago with focus groups if you wanted to make input into it. The new UI was also announced last week in the stream. Anyways - the new UI from a teachers point of view is really nice. Seating plans are much easier to do and the fact is auto saves attendance just makes life easier.

Yes you can. The school I'm based at, the cover manager has set a scheduled task that send the cover list out at 8am daily to our allstaff group. However, I'm not the cover manager = so the specifics of how you do this I've forgotten - but I vaguely remember it was east enough to do and is covered in the training.

If you turn on Groups sync and select classes it will do this. I generally only use this for year groups - not classes. I'd also watcht eh default group permissions as they do need changing - you can use GAM to bulk tweak permissions. Also - Google Classroom functions via a backend group it makes for each class - thats nothing to do with Bromcom - just how classroom works.

We use Securly Filtering and Safeguarding across our Trust (28 schools) and Securly Classroom for monitoring by Teachers. Works well and scales well.

100% Chromebook or ChromeOS Flex across our Trust with QR code login for primary pupils + a few ChromeOS tablets. Work great. Generally nothing fancy - some have touch flip devices - but most basic clamshell.

They put a fix in place last week as it was not correctly archiving classes - clearly its not worked and if you had archived classes outside of Bromcom - e.g. using GAM - this breaks Bromcom even more. Hopefully they will fix the archiving routine for next summer! Syncing one at a time is the only thing I've found that fixed it.

Its a Bromcom bug. We have a ticket about it and its with the dev team to fix. The workaround which I spent the weekend doing for our Secondaries, is to select each of your old classes in the Bromcom Classroom interface and click Sync Classroom - this makes it vanish from your list. You have to do this for everyone - in our case - 800 - 1500 per school. After that it works fine. I had a fun weekend. Two touch screen Chromebooks side by side doing two schools at the same time........

I've seen the same thing with Google Classroom. According to Bromcom it's because we are still in August (just) and our timetable does not start till next week. I've just unticked the year box in Bromcom for now to make the 2021 disappear. I'm just hoping all the teachers and students get correctly added to classes when we actually go back next week. We shall see. Don't use to satchel one.

We use Afi backup at our Trust. Looked at Synology - but not practical for our size and number of sites + has self service restore for users.

We use Securly across our Trust - 28 Schools from 2000+ Secondaries to little 100 pupil primaries. One filtering console - policies for each school. Dead easy to use and setup. Firewalls at Primaries are Unifi UDM Pros - managed on one console - easy to configure and just work. Secondaries - couple of old Smoothwall boxes as just firewalls now, one WatchGuard (new build) and the rest Untangle - free version on an inexpensive bit of tin. Certainly nothing in the many k's price bracket for us.
