We have multiple secondaries where we have ditched or never had local file servers in the first place - everything on Drive - just works and works well. Local file servers are yesterdays approach. Cloud File servers would be nuts given how well Drive works.

Ericom is dead since we moved away from SIMS - we use Bromcom now. Display stuff is all Chrome Sign Builder or other apps in kiosk mode. Biostore - we have one secondary using this piece of junk and they still have a local catering server.

We move files from local file servers using the Google Drive app - literally copy and paste to one or more shared Drives and just leave to sync. Not sure if that's what you mean. "Do you prevent people from saving file locally to the C Drive so they have to save to the Google Drive?" - Education - we give them instructions and show them how to use Drive and how to redirect things like Documents folders if they want to - but most stuff is in Google Docs so not a big thing. You can push a policy that prevents access to local drives - but it also kills the Google Drive App as well - so I don't do that. How do you allow staff to access programs like Nova T6, A2C inbox and Emarker which all require a Windows OS? So we are talking about Windows here still - although we are mainly ChromeOS - so you could run any of those - although I've only heard of Nova-T and we don't use that and don't have SIMS. Don't have Macs - but you can run the Drive app on them and it works just fine.

We just use the reg key to auto launch the Google Drive App. Chrome is SSO as using GCPW and all they do it sign in with browser. Most stuff is in Google Shared Drives and the vast majority of stuff is Google Docs/Sheets/Slides now. Never found a reliable way of force things like the document folder to Google Drive - equally - never been an issue - we just tell people to open and save stuff direct from their Google Drive if using legacy apps.

All of our primaries and some of the secondaries are pretty much entirely cloud based. All that's onsite is DNS/DHCP + normally a little low powered box for Papercut. We don't have "servers" in the cloud - we have services. So all MISs are cloud based and everything else runs off Google Workspace. PCs (we are mainly ChromeOS) are managed by Advanced Desktop Security and where we need to deploy software to PCs, we host the files in a Google Cloud Bucket. I've looked at running Papercut as a cloud VM but its quite expensive - especially the VPN costs. Primaries we run little passively cooled industrial mini PCs ~£220 which draw about 10W and just work - the cloud alternative is a lot more. Our sites use either Virgin Media leased lines or Gigaclear connections. Filtering is all cloud based with Securly.

You not on the UK cluster then? iPlayer works fine for us. They do have an EU one based in Ireland but you should be on the UK one to avoid issues with the likes of iPlayer. Anyways all seems to work great across our 28 schools.

We use them at a many schools. We pre-programme speed dials into the handsets - so a bit like old school extensions. You can either login to the web interface of the devices (as Google for the password) or you can set up a little webserver and point the devices at it and it pulls a list you can centrally manage. Apparently options are coming to programme speeddials into the handsets via the management console. We also pre-configure some of the user options. So when transferring a call - press transfer, press speeddials and dial - other person picks up and you transfer if they want you to. Pretty simple and works well. We use a mixture of VVX150/VVX250/Edge B10/B20s - kind of whatever we can buy B20's atm. All work much the same.

We use Chrome Remote Desktop. We have a "remote" account for each school and people just raise a ticket and we can hop on and help if needs be. Just works. For our Chromebooks its now built into the admin console.

We use this feature and do change it for holidays. We have a term time OU and a holiday OU for student devices. Just move the devices in bulk at the end of term and the start. Takes a couple of mins to do. Could do with a GAM script if you want.

We use it on devices that support it and all new devices - works fine with Google Advanced Desktop Security for MDM. Only issue I got is that an older Papercut Print Deploy Client did not work nicely - but that's fixed now.

Yes - just raise a support call with Google and they will transfer the licences for you. Turn off force re-enrol on your admin console - wipe and re-enrol on the MAT Google Workspace setup.

We use Chrome Remote Desktop - works well and Pulseway on important stuff we want to monitor.

Its pretty easy to setup. Chromebooks you push the extension and lock down a few settings, other platform you push the SmartPAC proxy settings and point your external DNS at Securly. Sync OUs to Securly and set whatever policies you want. We run most of our Trust schools of one Securly console and its dead easy to onboard new schools.

Have you got a Plus or Standard license? Required to use Advanced desktop security and for the policies you set on the admin console to do anything.

OK - there are two approaches here. Option 1 - pure cloud management using Enhanced Desktop Security This require Plus or Standard Google licences and does not require local AD - you manage the devices entirely in the Google Admin console. Option 2 user GCPW and manage devices in AD with local group policy This does not require any licenses from Google and you manage devices in AD with group policy. Users sign in with their Google account and get SSO to Chrome (as above). The website price is for businesses - its not the Edu price. Buy from your Google Partner and they should be able to give you the Edu pricing.

Standard is what we use. You get the licenses from you regular Google partner - in our case C-Learning. You only pay anything once you start using the licenses and can add and remove at anytime - just pay for what you use. No contacts to be tied into which is nice.

We have deployed it across lots of the schools in our Trust and it works really well. We use quite a lot of the Polycom handsets. Calls are now free - so its pretty cheap - pay around £7ish per month per licence. Ease of management centrally in the admin console is key for us with many sites.

For Google Voice: You can hide you number + calling via one number is on the roadmap. Internal physical handsets we pop peoples numbers into the handsets speed dials so they dont have to put in the full number. Shared phones - use a service account and delegate access to the mailbox for anyone who needs to pick up mail.

We use a Sheets script to add the attribute to the users in Google workspace. Script checks for new users in a certain OU and then adds the attribute to the user.
