  1. @GrahamB We used this site: https://training.ssscpd.co.uk/ Regards Bossman
  2. @Sheridan Its locked down here but that doesn't stop them from attaching files to e-mails but this has been deemed acceptable by our DPO as long as its not pupil or staff personal details or data which can determine the users identity.... All staff have been asked to take an exam to certify them against GDPR and this should educate them enough for them to be able to recognise what they can and cannot do with data which contains specific details about a pupil or member of staff.... They will become personally responsible for the data that they either process or have access to and this will be part of their AUP which they have all signed.... We have told them that we can trace who has sent what and where so that they should be aware the onus is on them personally....which they accept...
  3. Yes its ours too.... but at least its done correctly so that the students don't lose out because of a teachers ineptness around the use of IT....
  4. @Sam_ It seems that the GPO in question should do just what it is setup to do but because the timestamp on the profile is checked for the date and time it creates a flag which has its own timestamp of current time and date so inevitably it is never flagged as being outside of the timescale for deletion..... crazy really.... This is what we found anyway so we just use a batch script on shutdown which works very well for us...
  5. @Mark182 We have it from AQA that they accept zip files with 256 AES encrypted with password or Bitlocker with the passwords in a separate e-mail..... As for our PE dept videos we sent them on encrypted drives with passwords e-mailed separately..... We actually rang a couple of the exam boards up and after a conversation around GDPR we did state that it maybe in their best interests to formulate a better strategy of how schools send their personal student data to them.... We did mention that someone might report them to the ICO and this seemed to have the desired effect of being pushed up the management route to speak with those in charge... Anyway all seems good and they seem to be getting the message about GDPR and encryption.....
  6. Another +1 for 7zip here...thats what we have been advised....along with Bitlocker if you run that...
  7. @Sheridan Found this: https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/articles/210041513-Sound-Sets-Installing-To-Multiple-User-Accounts Hope this helps....
  8. @abillybob I know it seems silly but have you hard reset the printer? We have timers on all our printers which shut them down of an evening and start them back up of a morning before the PC's WOL, all part of our green power usage schedule.... We find that it helps our printers refresh and we have very few problems with our printers which are all HP....
  9. @abillybob With it being a HP device I would be looking at the properties/Device settings and seeing if the "Mopier Mode" is set to enabled.....if it is then set it to disabled... Also if it doesn't have a hard drive on the device check to see if this too is "Installed" if it doesn't have a HDD then set it to Not Installed.... https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/PageWide-Pro-Will-not-Print-More-than-One-Copy/td-p/6046625 Hope this helps... P.S. any chance of a loan from your £500,000 budget....hehe!
  10. We send ours as MP4's on encrypted password protected USB pen drives using a special courier and the passwords are sent separately in and e-mail for the different numbered drives... We do ask for them to be returned but whether or not this happens I cannot say as its the exams officer who deals with this.... I suspect not....
  11. @Jobos Why not sign your school up for GSuite and use Chromebooks instead....everything for free including their Office suite...... Save a pile of money with not having to purchase Microsoft licensing and also half the cost of Microsoft laptops.....excellent models available for £150 - £200... Lifespan of around 10 years with the Chrome OS and you can control the units centrally via an admin console. Just a thought.......
  12. Quite proud of my analogue timepiece..... Always draws attention wherever I go.....
  13. I could tie my shoelaces....read and write....cook and clean.....wash my clothes.... and........wipe my own ars*..... I had to.... as my parents showed me how and then beat the crap out of me if I didn't do these things...... We have become such a nanny state and because some parents are getting so damn lazy nowadays they cannot or will not teach their children the basics......as they themselves cannot even cook a meal...its off to McDonalds or take-aways from the "Just Eat" apps....or a packet of crisps with chocolate bars to finish off with.... I despair sometimes but then its gone too far now to turn it around I feel....
  14. It won't......your absolutely right...... How silly of me not to realise this in the first place........ Must be senile dementia kicking in....... haha!.................It was a windup @sippo...... Its called sarcasm.........don't get hung up over the little things in life or else you will miss all the big beautiful things in the world which far outweigh the bad.... Have a good day
  15. I will be so pleased when driver-less cars are the norm then everyone can drink or smoke or listen to the radio or virtually anything they want and it wont affect the car or lorry in any way.....wont that be fun......then everyone will be happy and no one will be able to twist about their pet driving hates..... OMG!!!........what will we find to twist about whilst sitting in our driver-less vehicles I wonder??? One thing I do know is that every vehicle will use its indicators properly haha!!!......have a nice day ya'all
  16. I still receive mail once per month of an RAF transcript magazine for the previous owner and have been for the past 30 years........even though I have e-mailed the magazine and asked for it to be stopped hehe! No limit I suppose......now i just dump it in the bin.....or light the fire with it...:
  17. @markwilfan Yes they are.....until as you say "Some baffoon has not thought it through!" Good luck and I hope you get it sorted quickly...............until the next time another baffoon doesn't think it through? Have a good weekend
  18. @rpain Maybe its "Apple" themselves you need to speak to as its their OS and their settings you are attempting to control? Thats why we never went IPads in our school as they are only designed as a personal device and not for networking as quoted by an actual Apple engineer "To conclude IPads are meant to be standalone devices. They are not computers and are not designed to be used as part of a network." This was and actual e-mail reply....... Apologies as this does not solve your immediate problem but may turn you towards a different device which can be managed better as a network device...for the future...
  19. @FN-GM Rang you....... It now stands at 2hrs 5mins to Bishop Auckland or 4hrs 12min Cardiff...................... Anymore for anymore?
  20. @ITGURU Been on 100Mbit to the desktops with Gig fibre backbone here for the past 17 years.......I originally designed the network infrastructure for 10 years hoping we may get 12 but we just kept on going as we have had no money for the past 10 years so had to make do and mend....good job I designed it with good quality Cisco kit all them years ago and guess what?.......we are getting a school rebuild....well refurb really but the good part is that our infrastructure is going to be 20GB backbone with 10GB POE switches and Gig to desktops.....sweet! We don't have any problems as we are and I do feel what we getting is overkill for what we will be requiring for the future but hey ho not our call...... Its not how big it is............its how you use it!!! Have a nice day
  21. @kennysarmy A little above your budget but fulfils all of your criteria and then some........ If I didn't have my V70 Estate I would fancy this one myself... https://www.motors.co.uk/car-48917652/?i=0&m=spf What do you think? Sorry my bad its a diesel......scratch that!!
  22. @chewee What about good old YouTube?
  23. We had to go to WD for one of our Red drives which we purchased from WD not Synology so it doesn't come as a surprise they have pointed you to WD for a new replacement drive..... We had no issue and WD sent the drive out the very next day....didn't even have to power down our unit as its hot swap.... Who was your reseller? I would take it up with them!
  24. @jmak One of the reasons why large companies are moving away from Microsoft to a complete GSuite implementation...... https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/03/14/airbus_ditches_microsoft_for_google/ Its the way to go for us....eventually......
