  1. I was asked the question: "Could we stop the e-mails on a weekend?" My answer was this: "You do realise what you've just asked me and what the outcome will be if we do?" Them: "No what would be the outcome?" Me: "Monday morning everyone would have a boat load of e-mails land in their Inboxes first thing!" Them: "Ahh Yes I didn't think about that!" Me: "What is required is a Staff policy that no e-mails be sent between the hours of 7pm and 7am and no school e-mails to be setup on mobiles or home computers... Simple!".... Work life balance is just that!..... Them: "Agreed!" Staff policy has been enforced and working well..... End of story.....
  2. @ataylor We've been using Synology units for the past 4 years with a hybrid mixture of SSDs and large capacity WD 8TB red drives in RAID6 config without any issues whatsoever... Fantastic IOPS read and write plus SSD caching with lots of fantastic apps for offline backups etc etc Currently running with 24TB across our 2 Hyper-V Cluster configured units which utilise Veeam to backup to another Synology unit with 35TB storage which then backs up to Google from the Hyperbackup Application to enable backup offline to virtually any other source... 5 years guarantee plus support... Worth a look if nowt else...we have found them to be excellent for running VMs from our DELL hosts.....and cheap too!
  3. @sadams1980 Its changed since we used it last but that does look like it.... You might have to pay a premium for the streaming server but the client side should be free.... Give them a call and see what they have to offer for you....you might get educational discount...who knows...all clever stuff
  4. @sadams1980 We used to use this software before our site changed its CCTV supplier and maintenance team..... I found it very good as opposed to the one we have now which is very clunky.... Give it a try for nothing its free...
  5. +1 for CDBurner XP... Free and works a treat..... As @LeMarchand has stated may require an addon...
  6. Well we have a 500 user license for CCE All Apps for K-12 - 2 GB.... SSO through our Gsuite app.... Local installation on clients for some of the applications but being trialled in Canada atm on Google Chromebooks....to be entirely web based... Didn't cost very much at all through Softcat our software licensing re-seller.... But now with the likes of https://www.photopea.com/and other online applications similar to what Adobe provide I can see Adobe dropping their licensing fees dramatically.... Could be wrong... PM me if you want to know how much we paid?....
  7. Our first Ofsted I had the IT guy grill me for approximately 45 mins..... Mainly policies: Passwords.... Security.... AUPs.... Encryption.... Also asked about future proofing... what the future direction of the school was from an IT perspective.... @webman was with me then... We actually got a mention in the schools very first Ofsted report.... We got an Outstanding in the report.... Since then we've had another 4 inspections....not one of them required anything from me except a wireless key as others have mentioned.... IT seems to me that Ofsted already know just how fantastic all IT guys are in Education and don't bother now as they feel as professionals we are above reproach unlike some other professionals in schools... Just saying like.....
  8. As @howartp.... Ditto...
  9. @Arthur.... Looks a cracking film!.... Thanks for sharing....
  10. As @robjduk has said.... Works a treat.....
  11. @jahilton2002 I've run it for the past 5 years using task scheduler from the server no problem..... Create the task with the following attributes: General Tab: Name = AnyComms.....Security Options User = System....Tick box Run with highest privileges....Configure for = Windows 7, Windows Server 2008R2 Triggers Tab: Weekly at 08.00 every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Actions Tab: Action = Start a program....Program/script: C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe...Add Arguments = /c "C:\Program Files (x86)\AnyComms\schedule.cmd".....Start in = C:\Program Files (x86)\AnyComms Conditions Tab: Tick Stop if the computer ceases to be idle......Power = Tick Start the task only if the computer is on AC Power...Tick Stop if the computer switches to battery power Settings Tab: Tick Allow task to be run on demand.....Tick Stop the task if it runs for longer than 3 days....Tick If the running task does not end when requested, force it to stop This is the cmd file required: @echo off echo mapping drive ... net use (Your mapped Drive to your Sims) e.g = Drive: \\your Sims server name\your Sims folder name echo Changing directory cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\AnyComms" echo Starting AnyComms client ... start /wait WinRCS32.EXE /q echo AnyComms finished echo Closing IE ... nircmdc.exe wait 5000 rem nircmdc.exe closeprocess iexplore.exe taskkill /IM iexplore.exe /F call schedule-email.cmd exit The E-mail function works too this is the email cmd required: @echo off set email_host=Host address of E-mail server set email_to= whoevers e-mail you want to send the results too set email_from= whichever e-mail account you want use to send the results from set file=C:\AnyComms\Transfer.html set out=%file%.txt sed -e "s/<[^>]*>//g" -e "s/:(/: (/g" %file% > %out% type %out% | blat.exe - -server %email_host% -f %email_from% -to %email_to% -s "AnyComms Update" Obviously you will have to change parameters to suite your server.... the unhappy face is obviously a colon with the left bracket and not as depicted an unhappy face Good luck....
  12. Its just what the "In Crowd" are drinking darn sarf! It used to be "Red Stripe" back in the day where everyone and their dog would have a can or bottle of it...... PDQDeploy

Deploy and Inventory here installed on a server so more than one admin can use it.....wouldn't be without it... So simple to use and if you can script it your can deploy anything...as we have found....Auto deployment for all the runtime engines and Chrome...just does what it say's on the tin... Absolute steal at the cost and so many videos on YouTube to help you it must be one of the most prolific tools in a network managers armoury....
  15. I bank with Barclays and have a package which includes breakdown service as well as many other services too many to list for £14 per month...use most of them regular except the Breakdown... Well worth a look....All digital devices covered too including up to 6 mobile phones...
  16. No probs here.....SW What are you getting?...
  17. The system would work much better if priced per mile as then the data analysis would give the train companies the data required to manage the train sizes and pricing by mile would be just that... The more popular the routes would be the the ones to the large cities from short journeys and therefore more people which would balance out the smaller trains coming from longer distances..... 200 people on a short journey @£1 per mile distance 80 miles = £16000.00 50 people on longer journey @£1 per mile distance 300 miles = £15000.00 They could introduce a city tariff of say £2 per mile to make it slightly cheaper for those travelling long distance bringing it down to say £0.50 for long distance to be worked out but that would be the only difference in pricing instead of the ludicrous system they have in place now.... Same as was done with fuel tax... The more miles you do the more you pay....simple really.... Not rocket science... Those that have to travel the furthest obviously pay more for the maintenance of the system.... Either that or get a job closer to home or drive....or in our case up North horse n cart....
  18. The train fares should be charged per mile of travel..... That way it would be so much easier to calculate and the system would be so much easier to maintain.... Its not rocket science but companies make it so difficult!!! What about £1 per mile... That would make Swindon to Paddington approximately £80.... Greed!!!..... Pure Greed!!!.... pleased I live up North where we all have Horse n Carts..... haha!...
  19. Gsuite for education.....everything in the cloud so access is easy for everyone..... Simple solution and free..... Seems many people are moving to this..... Just a suggestion.....
