I have spare drives which take a minute to change and the ones you take out can be used again, simple logic, works well and is cost effective when time is of the essence! Bad management = Lost Time = Lost Money = Lost Jobs! Simple really!

@localzuk What are the roads like around where you will be travelling by way of congestion etc? For you to be travelling on a little scooter (50cc) could be quite daunting although fun, get as large a scooter as you can handle which your license will let you ride is my advice, as for learning to drive a car it is a totally different experience as with a bike you have to focus so much more and see things at greater distances which makes you so much more aware of the other road users around you its uncanny. I think all car drivers should have to ride around on a motorbike or scooter for 1 year before climbing behind the wheel of a car as it makes them a much better driver in my opinion.

Good for you, but we get next day delivery and we have been 2.5 SSD's for a couple of years now, how much did you pay for the HP machines in the first place to get that much cash back if you don't mind me asking?

@Joanne Why didn't you just replace the drives with new ones as they are so cheap nowadays and then reuse the old drives on your existing machines? Seems a lot of time and energy spent for so little reward to me

The only problem I see with gaining a professional status through the BCS is that many companies would not pay for the privilege of employing someone of that particular calibre. When I first started in education with the LA the requirements for the network managers position was a degree in a relevant subject, that has changed now as the position has been somewhat de-skilled and the requirements are now according to the JRE a level 4 NVQ. So whilst the logical movement of professionalism seems the way to go, Public and Private companies will inevitably try to get the best for the least, by way of defining their requirements, thus people will have lower credentials but do more in the workplace for less money as the system retracts the need for top level certification based on internal and external finances. Supply and demand as always drives these decisions in any fiscal environment. This is just my reasoning from experience having gone down the route of professional status with various certs over the years and then to be told by a governing body of people that these are no longer required to maintain your position.

@LeMarchand Those customers who originally signed up for the free version when first launched can still use it for free, although it states it will expire, so I have been made aware on the Avast forum today. Just thought I would let you all know.

Update: For some unknown reason the AnyComms app has started working! Truly amazing! hehe! IT at its real best haha! Still have the other app to sort but at least I know the whole process works! @dhicks Yes I have already configured this both in the inbound and outbound part of the SMTP relay to allow both addresses of the servers where these apps are installed, thank you all the same for taking timeout to reply appreciated

@pcstru Thanks but I've already done that and I cannot find anything in the event logs which determine what is happening! Its a real mystery as both these apps were working perfectly using our Zimbra mail server as the relay

Scenario: We have migrated over to Gsuite and in the first instance removed our old but efficient local Zimbra e-mail server, everything went well and the Staff and students are well impressed with Gsuite, only problem I have is that two of our other services which used the Zimbra MTA as mail relay mainly our helpdesk (Liberum customised) and AnyComms (MIS app for secure transport of files to and from the LA). I have setup SMTP relay on one of our servers using IIS.6.0 Virtual SMTP server, I have tested this rigorously using both Telnet and dropping a text e-mail file into the Pickup box in the mailroot folder and checking the email account that it has been sent to and from which works 100%, I can get the reports up from within the Gsuite admin console which confirms this. The 2 apps are configured to use the SMTP relay but, and here is the quandry, they fail to use the SMTP although they are pointed at the SMTP in their config files the same as when we used the Zimbra email server (IP address of the SMTP server). My thinking is that the SMTP server is denying these apps access but why? Where would I find out? Reason for using local mail relay is that both these apps would not be able to use a remote SMTP Relay as defined in their help files. Please will someone help me out here as I think I'm going mad Thank you in advance

Veeam backup and replication here too. installed on one host setup the proxy to run from the other host and it just does its stuff! Full backups over the weekend and then incremental rest of the week, Cost was negligible, actually less than BE and a few others that we looked at!

Hi All, We have been monitoring our students over the past 6 months and we have found that there is a marked increase in hits for "Vaping Sites" I just wondered how others feel about this in terms of safeguarding? Do you ban the sites as they come up or create search term categories? Could Smoothwall themselves fit this into the smoking and tobacco category which automatically stops access to such sites for students? Would like to hear from anyone else who feels this is something that the students should not be able to access whilst at school? Appreciate your views and opinions Have a good weekend

They could save lots of money by utilising an anti-gravitational trans warp field instead of using a cable to hang it from an asteroid as this would be more cost effective and also safer, this would be built on the Moon and accommodate many such futuristic buildings: Sweet!!

Hi Folks, We have always allowed one games website for everyone called "friv.com" which has a many flash games that staff allow the students to access when they have completed work (Motivation) and this has worked well for quite sometime. Unfortunately they have changed the way the website presents itself, it now has a cookie page and it seems they have completely ruined it, we have always used IE11 and we have no issues with a majority of websites, I have looked at the live web filter using a test student user account and it looks like everything is just fine but the games page is taking forever to load which leads me to believe its SW doing something behind the scenes. I have tried chrome on the test student account and this loads slightly quicker but I still think it is the SW, once the game page has loaded the games themselves run quickly. Anyone experiencing the same with IE11 or Chrome? Cheers, have a good one

@LeMarchand Unfortunately for us W7 32bit is a major build for us due to budget restraints, we are deploying 64bit as we purchase the machines and hopefully we will be in a better position next Summer when we go W10 Cheers

@mjk Its all about IOPs and connection speeds, for a MAT with 5000 users if you had 10GB backbone and each Server device had the same with a good quality set of NAS units with SSDs and at least a 1GB bandwith internet connection then you should have no problem with VLE or external access. Infrastructure is key then system hardware etc etc No need to fork out vast amounts of money for redundancy and speedy connectivity these days.

@BKGarry No updates ran on weekend, they will run tonight, we currently use avast as our AV, it does seem to be happening all around the school now and we are stumped as to why its only happening randomly, will look into AV though Thanks
