@SteveT: Did you install manually or deploy through GPO? If you installed manually did you tick the box in the install GUI which says "Install for all users"? I'm just running through what we did as we also had difficulties with this software. Here are a few more tips: The first things to do when you startup Cubase: 1. ASIO driver in VST Audiosystem If you own a dedicated soundcard make sure that you have downloaded and installed the latest driver for this device from the website of the respective manufacturer. In Cubase go to "Devices--> Device Setup--> VST Audiosystem" and select the ASIO driver for your soundcard. If you do not have a dedicated soundcard you should use the "Generic Low Latency" ASIO driver. You might even get better performance if you download, install and use the free "ASIO4ALL" from "www.ASIO4ALL.com" driver. Close Cubase, download and install the ASIO4ALL driver, start Cubase and select the ASIO4ALL driver at "Devices--> Device Setup--> VST Audiosystem". Most systems perform better with the ASIO4ALL driver. In "Devices--> Device Setup" you will find that the ASIO driver you have selected is listed beneath "VST Audiosystem". By clicking on the driver at this point and then clicking on the "Control Panel" button that particular page you will be able to open the ASIO driver specific control panel. You should at least have peak at these settings to get familiar with them. But don’t change anything if you are not sure what you are doing. 2. VST Connections The VST Connections are very important! After you have set up the ASIO driver you must set up the "VST Connections" under "Devices--> VST Connections". The "VST Connections" are to connect the virtual buses in Cubase with the physical inputs and outputs of your hardware inputs and outputs. Setting up the Cubase Output for Monitoring To get started the "Output" tab in the VST Connections is the most important because only if you set this up correctly you will be able to hear the Cubase output. Click on "File--> Import--> Audio File" and import an Audio File. After you have imported an Audio File hit "Play" and check if you can hear the playback. Open "Devices--> VST Connections" and click on the output tab. Now assign the virtual "Stereo Out" with the physical output of your soundcard by clicking next to it in the device port column. In some cases the device port can already be assigned correctly. If you have our speakers connect to output 1 and output 2 of your hardware you would have to connect this to the stereo out bus in the vst connections . Simplified this is how the Signal flows when it comes to playing back audio on an audio track: Audio Track in Cubase (flows to) --> "Stereo Out" Masterfader in Cubase (flows to) --> Physical Outputs of your soundcard that you have connected with the virtual "stereo out" in the VST Connections (flows to)--> the speakers or headphones that you have connected to the physical outputs of your soundcard. Setting up the Cubase Inputs for recording Connect Mic/Guitar to physical input of your soundcard. Open "Device--> VST Connections" and click on the input tab. Click on the input tab and create a virtual mono bus "Mono In". Now you must connect the virtual "Mono Bus" with the physical Input of your soundcard by clicking next to it in the "Device Port" column. Create a new empty audio track "project--> Add Track--> Audio --> Mono". Make sure that you have the virtual input bus connected to that track. For the track it should say "Mono In" as Input and "Stereo Out" as output Simplified this is how the signal flows when it comes to recording: From Mic/Guitar to physical Mono input of soundcard flows to--> virtual Mono Bus flows to --> Audio Track that has the virtual "Mono Bus" defined as Input in the inspector--> write to disk. --------------------------- Be aware that you can find more help if you open Cubase and click in the upper right in the menu bar on "Help-->Documentation". If you choose the "Getting Started" guide you will also find more introducing information to Cubase. The "Recording Audio" and "Recording MIDI" section in the "Getting Started" guide will help you with your first recordings in Cubase. Hope this helps?

I think you will find there has been an update to the Solus3 agent 3.4.119 is what we are using.

Students! What Students! Do we have students at our school? I wouldn't know! We have lots of IT equipment that I know the name of every little item, why? because that's my job that's why and that is why all HT's know the name of everyone of their students and staff because that is their job. Horses for courses! I don't ever intend to learn student names because I can always ask them.....................or look them up in the Sims because I never forget a face! And you are????

@randle: What printers are they and are the drivers digitally signed as I did have a similar problem, windows 7 is very finicky with digitally signed drivers and sometimes what happens is the local print spooler keels over and the job is held in the ether until deleted. I am sure there is an update to stop the print server spooler from taking up too much processing also, forget which one but it is a recent one. Have you had problems mapping the printers also? I also have printer credits enabled and this has had no effect whatsoever so I would discount this, for piece of mind though you could disable the printer creduts services.

Hi all, Anyone come across this software before, if so have you got any recommendations? Comic Life 2 (Win) | Educational software for UK schools and colleges Just been asked to look into it for 100 licenses but have a feeling that it will be a pig to deploy over a network. @Sylv3r: Ditto here, only drawback is that you have to convert everything to wmv format, what I would like is a self help web gui front end a little like youtube were the staff and students can upload their own videos, obviously requiring admin restrictions as in video has to be vetted before it is set to live. Something like this: MediaCore in education or the free opensource version: http://mediacorecommunity.org/

@reprised: We use a piece of software called fles which links in with a barcode scanner for quick in/out and print, will print in either mono or colour it is highly flexible hence the name and has worked well for the past 2 years. Fairly cheap too!

@MrWu: I am waiting for the influx of windows 8 pads to hit the market as I see this both as a personal device and a network device without having to run all sorts of tools to fasten them down. Its not that I dislike IPads as we have some here and yes they work excellently except for the conditions which you mention and of course the restrictions that come with them. Sorry if this doesn't answer your question fully as I feel most tablets at the moment don't measure up to everyone's expectations. These are my thoughts but anyone else may have different opinions

@Brpilot99: I would get in touch with your ISP provider and make them aware of the issue and get them to replace with a router which meets the criteria, I would suggest a Cisco 2600 with Smoothwall box sat behind it for your own proxy filtering. If the school cannot afford the cost of Smoothwall UTP box then as has been suggested Smoothwall express on a linux box with 2Gig nics minimum and 2Gb RAM minimum. Hope you get it sorted

@dgsmith: We still running with Cisco 3550 12G as core and a combination of 3550 and 3650 48 port edge switches, been running these for 10 years now and I don't see our school being able to replace them yet, if we do it will be Juniper all round although I would still use Cisco again as they have been so solid. Some schools do seem to find lots of money don't they or is it because they pay their teaching staff basic wages hehe!

@british_government: We have nearly all Casio projectors and we use these mounts: CASIO Laser LED Projector Pro... : RA Technology, Projector mounts and cages Choose which one you will require, the company will deal with you directly. We use the older type Casio projectors (Casio XJ-A series of projectors) as these have the better zoom and we have never had to move our connecting poles. Hope this helps

@andyturpie: Staff users = 1 login SLT users = 2 logins Student users = 1 login With roaming profiles as in CC4 more than one login can cause corruption as user can be logged into 2 workstations at the same time and have applications and files open in both sessions which when the user logs out the changes are sent back to the original profile on the server but some staff leave themselves logged in to one of the sessions and when the shutdown task is initiated it tries to write the other changes also and this is where the corruption comes from. When the user comes to log in to the machine which has been shutdown via the shutdown task forcing the log off of the user the it looks first for the local profile which has been stored on the machine and this maybe corrupted but loads it anyway and the user ends up with certain problems like printers not mapping properly or access rights to their own folder not being applied. I would like to force everyone down to a one login practise with roaming profiles but unfortunately due to the laziness of some users it becomes apparent that they will not like this strategy and therefore have to run the risk of their profiles becoming corrupted, as long as they are made aware of this then they know what to expect. Also with roaming profiles they obviously become larger and I have found anything above 3Mb also runs the risk of becoming corrupted so I regularly clean everyones profile at certain times (giving the users notice first) they all seem to agree as it makes their user experience that much better. Running a VB script to clear all those profiles which are not required at shutdown also helps as the users get a fresh profile everytime they login. Someone maybe able to go into greater depth but that is the overview.

@Awx: Been using Xenserver here for the past 4 years with 20 VM's of different OS types, we are now on version 6.0.2 with HA, this has just recently been tested with an incident involving one of the hosts and no-one noticed the difference as the VM's from that host transfered to the other 2 hosts seemlessly. Now we have moved on to this version it also has the feature of scheduling snapshots throughout, from every hour to daily to weekly and all these can be collated and then backed up to a NAS ready to be imported back in if necessary. All this is free so no requirements for backup agents or third party backup software. Obviously it has many more features but this was one of the DRS ones which I thought I would mention. 3 Hosts 1 Sun 7110 SAN 4TB carved up into 2 partitions, Raid 5 for fast read and write and Raid 0 for fast read (Hopefully looking to purchase another for failover via mirroring) 1 Hitachi SMS 6TB Data storage Total in cost £16k
