@Little-Miss: I actually uninstalled our DNS by ticking a box as I hadn't read the screen properly, I didn't realise until a couple of calls later when endusers rang the helpdesk, it was then an uneducated guess to go back in and untick the box and re-install DNS, luckily the config files were still there and DNS just recreated itself hehe! @webman will tell you what a total idiot I felt that day and still feel bad about it today.......but I can now laugh about it. @Little-Miss: There is one little secret I can let you in on is..................................................The secret of the universe is...............................42 Never forget that and you will go very far my friend. It also has to be in written form for the person who doesn't know the system and thus this is what we call a DRP or BRP plan. Nice that you have everything sorted my friend but apart from all of us, who else knows your system and what to do in the event of say you getting run over (theoretically speaking mind you, heaven forbid anything should happen to you). ;D

@vikpaw: I too, like you had a perfect Solus 2 setup that just worked, having worked with Solus 3 now as I have stated its not 100% but that I feel is the nature of the beast and we have to move on to pasture's new. I do think Capita in their defence created this monster from the needs and requirements bourne from BSF which then fell by the wayside. Things can only get better as that song goes hehe!

Laptop for Teachers scheme died out around 5 years ago and so with the last lot of laptops dished out they have slowly come to an end, hehe! The schools policy is if the staff require a laptop to work from then they have to purchase it themselves, as we do not have a fully managed wireless system in place we also stipulate that they cannot use our network for accessing work or internet access as it is not secure. As all rooms are equiped with IWBs and a computer there is not a necessity for them to have a laptop as wherever they go they have access to a workstation which has internet access and also to their files. They have remote access to their files from home so do not have to use US pen drives or the like as they can use all the applications they use at work on their remote access. Unless a teacher has no access to their work both at school or from home without a laptop then there is no requirement for them to have one provided by the school.

@Educare_AV: Using the distance tool provided by Casio it came pretty close and with the zoom it might have done the job. Reason I put this forward was we are looking to do exactly the same thing at our school and I had an AV specialist out and after he did the sums it comes very close. Which projector do you recommend?

@X-13: When no-one is on the network go to your DC and go to services.msc and scroll to RMPostgres.SQL and restart the service, it will also restart 2 other services, when these are all backup and running scroll to RMHost service and restart that also. This should create a new cache of the database and the RMMC should come backup with all the information data. Let me know how you get on. As for removing a printer, just go to the server where you installed it and delete it, it will disappear from the RMMC printer OU but you must undeploy it first in the RMMC from the workstations or Room OU that you have deployed it too in the first place. Oh! don't forget when you on the server in Start>printers and faxes right click in the white space and go to the print server and delete the port for that printer also. Hope you get sorted

7110 SAN is only 3 - 4 years old, it should last at least 10 and as long as it remains cool and maintained well it should. I have looked at other HW like the SuperMicro chassis and it does look good but when you look at the cost overall and the software + firmware it leaves the same financial footprint as the 7110 which would be approx 6k. We do have another SAN for our user storage which is an Hitachi SMS100 which has also served us very well indeed for the cost. Its a little old and archaic but it serves the school well for the moment until we get a new school or I die hehe! Whatever happens we will get a new system

Please don't make statements when you don't back them up with information regarding what you are talking about. You may have had issues with Raid0 but have been using it for the past 11 years for the likes of above and have not met with any problems as long as we have a good VM backup its not a problem and as I have stated when we get another SAN to replicate in a mirror we should have total failsafe. We as a middle sized secondary school cannot afford to lash out vast finances on HW so we have to do the best we can with what we have and I think I have fulfilled that criteris to date. Only had 5 hours of non managed downtime in 11 years which I feel is not bad for a system which over the years TOC has been less than £250,000 and still going strong. I would love to spend £100,000 per annum, lucky if I get £15,000 to run all the school systems and toners come out of this for all the ICTsuites. It has been a labour of love and as this is my first and probably my last job in IT within the educational system I feel I have given the students the very best value for the money I have been given.

@Whitclark: Beg to differ on the fact that your the only one and different! I too have it all setup and working fine so far, only problem that I envisage is the odd client not starting so will have to write a start up script to check if Solus3 agent is running if not then start the little b*gger hehe! @round2it: Do you have a workstation where the Sims is working that you can copy the Sims.net folder from and overwrite the existing one to see if the installation has not become corrupted? @NDW: Saw them down at Bett or something very similar and indeed it looked very good indeed except when we came to play with it and it seemed very sluggish in its use, they may well have updated the software and firmware so I could be at least 9 months out of touch. Also licensing is not cheap by all accounts.
