This is our Kizzie right at this moment in her favourite position everyday and every night haha! Doesn't she look happy to say she was a rescue cat from a gang of druggie's and then we were asked to look after her by my wife's friend who had other plans, her boyfriend had a phobia of cat's and so after she came back off her holidays she asked us if we wanted to keep her! WTF no question about it! Sure we did and 3 years later after much psychological therapy with a riding crop! yes a riding crop but with a difference it had a soft cloth wrapped around it and it took a year of gentle coaxing to finally win her confidence and allow us to touch her. Now after 3 years she sits on our laps, jumps onto our bed (at the foot) and falls asleep regularly. She is beautiful and loves all the attention and affection we can give her and more, i wouldn't be without her

@scotyboy56: We use this:Home - Liberum Help Desk and have been for years, can be used with any SQL backend and you can setup your HTML intranet page to send the requests in a format to suit yourself. If your good with SQL code you can also setup a web front end to automatically pull out reports.

@ittech: Can you not setup a group policy for student users which blocks access using IP's?, you can on Smoothwall! This would do the trick

I gave up 4 hours of my time on Friday 19th after the staff and students had left at 12:30 noon, 2.5 hours of this was a wasted Sims Autumn upgrade which rolled back due to the last database update not being 100% tolerant and initialised a full rollback. Didn't bother re-deploying as I wanted to get home and so did the site member of staff who was with me. Do I give a s**t................no its my Christmas as well and it can wait til I get back on the 7th Jan Merry Christmas everyone and have a great time.................Chillin and stuffing

We have employed this method for the past 5 years, student who's parents decline are given a card similar to a bank card, the first one they get for free the second costs £5. Method in the madness as it only takes the student a couple of months to lose a few cards and the parents are on the phone asking for their child to be part of the biometric system hehe! It only reads 17 points of the actual fingerprint and it takes at least 24 points to determine a true match. This is the information passed on to the parents and most are in agreeance but you always get one.

@Rawns: Had the same thing happen to me today, after deploying the Autumn 2012 upgrade via Solus 3 it took 2 and a half hours then decided to rollback, the error was that the tolerance factor hadn't been met and therefore rollback initialised. Went back through the agent log and it has other upgrades in process and then has the message failed, everything seems to have rolled back but I didn't try to re-deploy as it was our last day and everyone had gone home at 1:00pm and I wasn't going to stay any longer. Anyone else had this happen with the same error "database tolerance not met" Wouldn't mind but the Discover database and client update went very smoothly without a hitch. Very strange as it also wanted to upgrade every database from spring last year which I think is a bug and is going to be rectified next February so I am led to believe.

@FN-GM: Thank you very kindly for the offer of dialogue between ZEN MD and myself but it would be to no avail as this happened quite sometime ago and I am quite certain that the service that you get from ZEN is the best in the country bar none, I will probably looking at upgrading home service to Talk Talk's fibre to the house plan which will cost me very little as I have been a long standing customer, I cannot fault their service for the period of time I have been with them. 10 mins ago I had 1GBPS download and 250MBPS upload but now i'm only getting 512kbps download and 64kbps upload hehe! don't know whats happened maybe someone over Preston way has taken up all the bandwidth!!! Some people are just not satisfied until they have got more than anyone else! Can't really see what I could download at that speed or which web service would upload at that speed, I would think most upload sites are throttled and load balanced to stop the site's from crashing. Lots of bittorrents maybe? or films or music or software........................all for nowt!!! Don't do it wouldn't do it not with ZEN anyway used to use them as my ISP until I did my first Microsoft course years back and went to download some Microsoft trial packs, got a nasty e-mail telling me to desist from my activities as they would cut my connection.............I was actually on the Microsoft MCSE course at the time! Moved to talk talk straight away and they have delivered a better service for nothing and twice the speed of ZEN Nice download FN-GM but just watch what you download won't you hehe!

Run a virtual Sims server with 6GB Ram and we have 102 workstations running Sims, Discover and 5 workstations running FMS no problems whatsoever. Database is 3GB and the Student count is 750, seems like a little overkill with the RAM, could they have mistaken it for the storage side? Excessive if you ask me.

@flyinghaggis: I feel personally that staff just want an IPad so that they can use these at home also, we have had them ask about this kind of setup here which I nipped in the bud because of the cost element for basically streaming a video from our media server. SLT backed me all the way as they too saw it as the staff's attempt to bring IPads in through the backdoor without the knowledge of how or what they would work with purely as they wanted to take them home as they no longer get laptops provided by the school. @flyinghaggis: Which type of IWB do you have? If Promethean then you can get a tablet which you can control the IWB with and if connected to a computer as you have stated will play through the computer any video that the computer can stream. If not then you might be able to connect via an IPad using proprietry software which will allow you to connec to the IWB through the connected computer and stream video and the like. Another is Casio projectors which do have a wireless dongle in some models and with the use of their free software which will allow wireless connectivity from any windows device with the software installed. All of these are expensive but will work.

@Vstar: We use this:Luxriot Been very good with 360degree cameras and only takes up 15Mb bandwith on our backbone from 30 cameras around site. Obviously not free but worth a look at. Also ditto zoneminder as we were in the process of implementing this when our DHT ordered the Luxriot system above. Also get a large capacity server or NAS for video storage as a must.

One of each: Son 21 years old into last year of University studying accountancy business and finance, Daughter 18 years old, working her way towards becoming a teacher. Always in touch and always have their own points of view, very friendly and always prepared to help others no matter what. I love them both very dearly and really miss the early days of their childhood, I always have a trip down memory lane when we get together for a family celebration. I am so very proud of them both and it goes without saying that I am also very proud of their mother who has been the conerstone of our family. Although this thread was aimed at the male's of this forum I think we should all put our hands together for the Mother's of this world as without them we wouldn't be here.............

@Quackers: Have you looked at these:Controller-less, Cloud-enabled, Wi-Fi and branch networks | Aerohive Networks I to looked at Ruckus but having looked at how the future is going with wireless then I think Aerohive or even Meraki the latter who have just been taken over by Cisco. They both have a cloud based management system and have layer 3 routing. Aerohive have a patented bonjour app which helps with Apple integration also. I think one or two people on here could give you some good advice about Aerohive

@mark: we have used Zimbra for quite a number of years now and that is absolutely free, runs very well as a VM but as others have pointed out live@edu should provide you with e-mail and office apps. Have you also thought of google docs for the school which would also be free with free storage and the added bonus of collaboration within the google docs so no requirements for your own storage onsite or backups except for your VMs if you go down the virtual route. Xenserver is also absolutely free if you just want to run the one host with all your server VMs running on it, with the latest version 6.1.0 it has the capacity to run scheduled snapshots to a storage NAS and then the nas can be linked to an tape drive (LT04) for encryption for taking off site. Not that expensive all told. Good luck

@all: I have been looking at the Samsung 830s and as has been stated they are very fast compared to others, they cannot be beaten on price I don't think, may try a couple first to see what we get. Thank you all for your comments and for any other people's comments hereafter

Hi all, Just wondering which SSD drives are using now and how much they are paying for them and where from? Would like peoples thoughts on size of drives they use i.e. 64Gb or 128Gb for desktop. Any pitfalls we should look out for, we currently use Kingston SSDNOW 64Gb, not the fastest or cost effective hence the post. Appreciate all comments Thanks in advance

Been using BE version 12.5 for a little over 2 years in a D2D2T scenario, works very well using windows Diskbox 2003R2 in conjuction with HP LT04 multitape loader 16 tapes including cleaning tape. 256 Bit encryption for offsite storage of tapes. Only trouble I have had is that of a tape getting stuck, had to completely strip down the autoloader and then rebuild it re-install the tapes one by one in order (had all the tapes marked up prior, comes in very handy) then re-index the tapes using BE, took 16 hours all told but all back and working now and I know quite a lot more about BE and autoloaders hehe!
