@itgeek: I would be very careful if I was you as the VAT has not been paid on these items as schools dont pay VAT or claim it back, you will have the VAT man after your school if they found out! I know this for sure as staff were asking me if I could purchase computers for them whenI first started in this role many years ago, I was put on the straight and narrow by our very wise Head Teacher who happened to be well versed in financial matters being the finance director for AQA for a number of years. Its not worth the hassle, just give it away after either industrial wiping or smashing up the HD.

@FN-GM: Why its been so good for so long and we have no issues at all with capacity in fact we only utilise on any major usage day 20% of our total capacity across our 1GB backbone. I even have a spare which is already configured to take over if this one fails hehe I have thought about going totally Juniper 10GB backbone and 1GB to the desktop but don't see reason for the expense at the moment

Well @witch saw an apparition in the ale house akin to the ExcelCentre were we all went after the conference centre closed while the crowds and traffic died down, I would say she was quite startled by this ghostly dog appearing to her near one of the tables.........................................Ahem! and before you all state the perfectly obvious..........................................She was drunk!!! How does it match up to Aerohive solution does anyone have the data on this as I am looking into Aerohive at this moment for a meeting next week, reasons for this solution rather than Ruckus is that I don't fancy a H/W cntroller which should it go down would leave the school with no wireless, I also have the single point of failure covered for the cloud controller which Aerohive would use so all in all I would welcome any constructive data on Aerohive V Ruckus, I have looked into Meraki also and it was a viable solution until Cisco decided to purchase it and this has put me off since their last aquisition of a product ended in that product being taken off the market. Just this week had an issue with printing all the staff timetables out at once, Fault code: 1151-9994-5300 error Sims Entities DatabaseException Timeout. Capita KB400750 - gives a good solution Hope this helps

@tmcd35: Not sure I follow you correctly? Are you saying that it would be just a walk across the road? I have lugguage as well which I prefer not to tout around London, would feel safer in a taxi Northern men tend to stick out like a sore thumb and usually attract the wrong element if you get my drift! Even though I love London when I am down it always gives me the feeling that it's everyone for themself and get what you can while you can! I realise that it may be only a small percentage of the London population that give London its bad rep as far as lone travellers are concerned but I wouldn't want to take that chance. Appreciate the advice though, will you be down on Friday or Saturday?

@stevehill06: Friday and Saturday then travelling back Sunday evening, managed to get booked up in the Excel hotel more or less 50 secs from the Excel centre but unfortunately couldn't get a flight to the central airport from Newcastle, hence the Heathrow airport travel. Instead of the bus could I get a taxi from Excel to Canning Town and what would be the cost? What railcard would I require also as I find it quite confusing, would probably need a weekend all zone pass would I not? Appreciated

@stevehill06: What about Sunday travel back to Heathrow? Don't want to miss my flight home, how will I get to Canning Town from Custom House so that I can make my connection? Been using Kaspersky enterprise here for the past year and a half with no problems whatsoever, install the server config and then point to your clients, auto install on clients which in turn update automatically from server which in turn auto updates over the net, Simple to use with lots of lovely tools and reporting functionality, in my eye's an excellent product.

I take it you don't like it, I really don't understand why people have so many problems? Did you upgrade from CC3? I know a school not far from us who have gone down the vanilla route from CC3 after costing a CC4 new build, it seemed the CC4 new build looked a little costly at first, after 3 months of building and testing they have cobbled together a Vanilla system but have met with quite a few issues and it is still an ongoing process which takes many man hours and money. It seems it has worked out a little more costly than if they had gone CC4 new build, but now they are Vanilla I am sure they will keep it that way for the time being. I have looked at Server 2012 with Windows 8 clients and this will probably be the way I go using our Xenserver hypervisor to build and test before we migrate, I will also be looking at what RM's solution will be before making the strategic move based on cost, functionality and purpose. RM software has served us very well for the past 11 years and has cost us very little as we don't buy hardware or support from them and our Xenservers have cost us a meagre £1200 plus the cost of the servers and they too have served us well so far and I envisage at leastanother 5 years from them if not more. All following servers are virtualised: AV = Kaspersky which has been excellent and as we purchase from our LA it is very cheap. MIS = Capita Sims.net which works very well even with Solus 3 deployment software. Backup = BackupExec 12.5 works well in conjuction with auto tapeloader (16 tape LT04) and Diskbox running Windows storage server2003R2. Network = Curriculum and Admin all on one CC4 network using the appropriate permissions and group access rights. VLE = Moodle 2.2 hosted internally but managed in conjunction by us and outside development team. Remote access = RM secure RDP terminal services which has never failed us yet. Webserver = Ubuntu 10.04 which hosts our website Media server 2008R2 = Used for streaming films and media clips License server = Server 2008R2 FTP server = Ubuntu 10.04 for students web designs and development. If I have missed anything then I can't remember but might remember tomorrow hehe! @X-13: All the best in your Vanilla adventure wish you well

@glennda: That looks really good, have you tried the export to VDMK functionality and imported to Hypervisor? Would be good to know how good it works with Xen hypervisor especially! What are the costs involved with this particular unit and the cloud costs on the roundrobin? I have been looking into it this morning out of curiosity and it just seems to tick all the boxes for any BRP not just enterprise, thank you for this my friend
