I would aim to keep it as simple as possible otherwise the staff will use it to whinge and this will create a negative response. All questions should be non specific as this gives staff time to think about a negative response and this too is not required, you are delivering a service and the questions have to reflect this as a whole, We use Adobe forms for all of our survey's and questionnaires, you can see the sort of questions we ask and the results. Allow for anonymity as some staff don't like to put their names to anything negative if you see what I mean.

@sister_annex: My daughter came with us on holiday this year to Cape Verde, when we got back she finished with her boyfriend and got online to arrange working in a school as a volunteer, she now has a position with this school as just this, she has arranged accommodation for the first 3 months to which we have stated we will support her then she will be on her own. I am so proud of her even though a part of me is hurting I feel she has done the right thing for her. What I am saying is if you want to do this then do it now before it becomes too late and you regret not going. Good luck and bon voyage!

Been using it for 4 years now with HA and scheduled snapshots to backup storage, 3 hosts in server pool, never missed a beat, on version 6.0.2 and its very stable. VMs include MIS Sims server, we have 12 mixed servers (Windows and Linux) running off 3 hosts and it is only the fact that the hosts RAM support is limited to 32Gb that we don't yet have all the servers virtualised but that will come shortly. What can I say except it has cost us just £1200 for license which supports HA. Try it for free you only have to purchase the advanced license for certain tools, nothing to lose.

Secondary school approx 750 students, 120 staff, Aerohive installed and configured by LAN3 full school coverage except for the sports-hall which is a separate building which had its own cisco wireless APs 1140s. We are at stage 3 as we have BYOD although not fully utilised by the staff and students. Approximately 120 different mobile devices ranging from HP100e netbooks to Ipad's to nexus 7's etc

Usually the middle management jobs are first with maybe one or 2 of the higher end jobs but no-one ever gets to hear about them as it's always good for the media to report that it's the lower end workers who are getting the chop as it sells newspapers and is good TV.

@dhicks: Now you can't have that just yet that will probably be in the next updated model and higher priced to boot, why do people get so sucked into this Apple mangle which just promises you the world but delivers only shiny objects that are not fully complete? Its like waiting for Lego to come out with the next set of bricks to complete another part of the building or model! Its very well managed from a company viewpoint who want nothing else than to exploit not only the poor workers in China and the far east but customers who pay through the nose for these shiny new objects of gluttony. I am not an Apple basher as I see some of the ideas around the technology to be exceptional but like everything else they create and sell it requires everything else to be Apple before it will produce an effective network tool. I have still got 3 RM 9u servers, with a working CC3 platform and XP client build stood doing nothing but worked for 5 years plus and is still in excellent order throughout. Dual Pentium 3 processors. I may keep them now for prosperity hehe! I have never bought hardware which RM have made although from reports that I have had it has always seemed to be very reliable although a tad expensive. RM as a company have always tried very hard to give a good service for the education market and I personally feel that they went in the wrong direction regarding the BSF contracts as they saw these as quite lucrative at the time, most BSF contracts are up for tender or have converted to Academy's which has forced RM's hand in making what seems to be a downward but necessary cut in staff, note that it is temporary staff and those with short term contracts, which any company would sacrifice in times of austerity. All companies are feeling the pinch and staff are always the first to go. Its a shame but these are very hard times from a financial viewpoint for companies alike.

Hi Everyone, Would like to ask a very simple question? maybe 2? Does anyone receive IT funding through any European central funding or from any other funding pots available to education? How does one go about seeking funding pots for your school and how does one find out about these? I appreciate that people are sometimes a little bit wary of giving this information out as it may impede their chances of gaining said funding but I wouldn't ask for them to divulge information outright on this forum but PM me if you have any information regarding the above. @kennysarmy: HP2055dn are very nice and quick, they work very well and are relatively cheap to purchase and maintain. We have a number of them here and they just work faultlessly.

We haven't since the laptop for teachers scheme died around 6 years ago, if staff want a laptop they have to purchase themselves and we don't give any technical support as we advise them to get that with the purchase. DHT has given support for this as the school could no longer provide and as the staff have always had remote access as well as a computer and IWB in every room there has been no requirements to supply laptops. I find it totally inconceivable in today's financial climate that schools are still providing laptops for teachers where they are not required.

Still using mine after all these years, still in good nick as it gets washed by hand not in the dishwasher

Our MIS is linked to our AD via the students unique ID created by our VLE and place in the Office tab of the AD user under General tab, only problem we get is if the student or user changes their name before they start at the school in year 7 apart from that it works very well indeed.

Are you using HP's universal print drivers? These have created me some very frustrating moments over the past year as they install some crazy files which quite frankly are not required. If your using windows 7 drivers then it looks like it could be the default settings on the print server which require configuration. Had another 3 solid hours of researching and re-configuring parts of the registry just for 2 workstations as they had issues mapping 2 HP printers, will find out tomorrow if it was fruitful. Still got my old BB9700 and as you can imagine it works very well for what it was intended especially the BBM, better than the IPhone in some respects I feel, now having to use Samsung S4 hehe! absolutely fantastic for just about everything except BBM but now that has been sorted yeah! Don't panic!!! Its only a phone!
