Used to go to the gym but found my knees and calves not up to it so decided to take up "Pilates" twice a week, really struggled at first as I'm not the most flexible person on the planet but as the weeks went by I get stronger and more supple, really get a buzz and feelgood factor from it. I also maintain a healthy eating habit during the week, fresh produce always, my only downfall is my sweet tooth but I am working on it and now drink black coffee no sugar and white T just 1 sugar, also keeping my alcohol intake down to a couple of glasses red wine over the weekend and nothing during the week. I did go a little overboard during Christmas n New Year and gained over a stone but since I have gone back to my healthy regime I have lost 7 pounds in 2 weeks hehe!

5 years seems good enough for me as an OB anyway thats pretty cool!

Scenario: Backup System is D2D2T, Components: Diskbox: 2003 windows storage 1TBx4 1GB DiskBox 2U RACK RAID0 SCSI_CTRL Quantum L700 20 tape auto-loader attached to above via scsi Diskbox has a hardware fault I have been unable to track down, done all the usual stuff but it still remains (Think it is the M/B) as it is rather old over 5 years I was thinking of a change. Looking at the schools requirements got me to thinking what about a NAS which is capable of delivering multiple services such as user storage, backup storage and storage capable of running VM's and the above 2 companies got me thinking. Looking at 32 - 48TB raw storage capacity, hypervisor compliant with all standards and different raid configurations plus lots of other goodies. This is the QNAP model I am looking at with 2 extra nics installed: QNAP TS-1279U-RP 48TB 12 Bay 2u Rack NAS Server with iSCSI (TS-1279U-RP/48TB) - www.misco.co.uk Not quite sure which model from the Synology range yet but am working on this as we speak, What I would like to ask is there any flaws in my plan so far? @chriscubed: I just went from Summer 1 to Autumn 2 just running the latest Autumn 2 release as it installs all of the databases one after another then the file server update and then finally the client agent update, as I have stated in another thread it just worked flawlessly.

Just ran the latest updates using Solus 3 which updated our database from our Summer to Autumn 2 (4 Database updates in total) plus the File server and 117 workstations flawlessly, the staff are over the moon with the speed increase although it was mighty fast beforehand. Solus 3 seems to be getting it's act together so I would advise moving and getting used to its interface. Experiencing it from first deployment stage to now it is 100% better and I can only speak from my experience..............I'm happy

@vikpaw: Your absolutely right!......................I mean in how you use the system, each school has different requirements as to the way they impart and develop their schools data. I was trying to exert the virtue's of Capita's role strategy within Sims user groups and as a system it can and does give the required roles and permissions for schools right out of the box. It is good in the fact also that you can dive in and give extra permissions to certain user groups, Now you know me better than that @vikpaw I don't show off it's good to let people know what can be achievable from a virtualised MIS system now isn't it? Are you @ BETT this year?

@alexbillbridgnorth: Most people are afraid of anything new and teachers are no exception, I have found that the only way to is to promote through a presentation and then to re-enforce through one to one with the staff and give them the confidence to use it. Maybe have a coffee and cake event after school and invite the staff to attend then give a quick presentation (Use the video supplied by the company) then give a live demo and then have a question and answer session after, all this should be no longer than 30 mins tops otherwise just like students they become bored and start to fidget hehe! I find that the spreadsheet is very helpful and has helped me gain a fairly good insight into permissions, I find that permissions are catered for in the differing roles within the school and have never needed to create a bespoke template for users to access certain things its all in the spreadsheet. Well done Capita Ohh and the latest updates have made the system so much quicker, have been able to drop memory down to 6GB, still less than a second to login box and then 6 - 8 secs to desktop page staff have been quick to let me know which can only be a good thing yeah.............

Our Electricity has just gone up from £80pm to £92pm and we have now have 2 less people in the house so by rights we should be using less electricity, 3 bedroom cottage built circa 1858.

@tmcd35: That's cool as we all know teachers work far more hours than 37 don't they? All M&P to be done in holiday time 31 days per annum same as support staff Yahoooo!!!! Wonder how they will manage to get all that work which they gripe about done in such a short time as 37 hours per week? I know let's ask a support member of staff they know how because they are really clever people hehe!

I agree with Michael Gove and what he would like, all public sector workers and this includes teachers to work a 37 hour contracted week same as everyone else, now it gets really interesting as he also wants teachers to have less holiday time too. Yes teachers you chose this professional route and if the powers that be change the working practice will you all still work in this profession.....................I would think the answer will be yes as the real world workers are sick and tired of your bellyaching!!! All is about to change for the teaching fraternity and they really don't like it........all I can say is get used to it as change is on it's way

As has been discussed in depth at various levels we will undoubtedly have a tiered internet access and those who have legitimate businesses will have to pay for a license to grant certain users the access rights via ISP's. End users will undoubtedly pay for the service above and beyond as the ISP's and businesses pass on the costs. As in many countries it is the ISP's who have now been given the "Gatekeeper" title and as ever they will make money out of it as well as the governments taxing these companies. It is all about money and nothing else! It's not about the safety of our children and their children just categorically "Money!" The internet was devised to share information freely for everyone but as we see it has been used for purposes other than what it was meant for and how are we to police this? ISP's along with the government couldn't organise a p*ss up in a brewery let alone control internet access. Money makes the world go around and the more you have the faster you can go! Total madness!!!

Looking for 17 - 18 year old with programming skills in PHP, Python and any other programming language who has a decent knowledge of computing already, I know that this may seem a big ask but I remember a PFY at 15 years old who had these qualities and more @webman yes you know! So if there is anyone who meets this criteria then PM me please with CV if they are interested in this role in an apprenticeship position up north near Durham.

We have a similar system called "flex" which is very flexible and very quick which prints out the ticket then slips into a plastic case with school safety lanyard or crocodile clip depending on the visitors preference. Can be pre-booked in advance and the receptionist has everything ready for mass visits, we did look at a self service but when you have say 20 people in one group having them stand in your reception (Especially when it is only small) can cause overload and the receptionist can get a little irritated by people who do not know how to use the self service system. The days log can be printed off in seconds at just one click of the button and can be transported to a point outside school for identification of visitor's in case of emergency evacuation. Been working well for 4 years now so I guess there are other similar software packages out there possibly even better.

@seashoreseashell: You may need to remove and re-install the new licenses on your license server as they sometimes don't update properly or not at all. Just Google or look on the Citrix website for advice on how to (Plenty of good stuff out there) As @twin--turbo: states its best to have support for Citrix even though you might never need to use it.

@sparkeh: Setup VPN for each sites Sims server and then create shortcuts to each site's Sims server, encrypt the laptop drive and that should be it as long as she has wireless access should not be a problem. Let me know how you get on
