@vikpaw: Has everyone done their migration to SQL 2014 before the update as a requirement for the Summer upgrade which is required for the PI reports? I have mine scheduled for the 4th of August as this is the earliest I can get! I can't believe that everyone has already migrated to SQL 2014?

"Bump!" Anyone? Any resellers?
-
@tmcd35: I am sure LAN3 who are resellers for Aerohive would be interested to come out and survey plus tender, they were very thorough with our buildings as they are old and have very thick walls and steel infrastructure. Our solution has been in place for nearly 2 years and we have not touched it configuration wise. Give them a bell: LAN 3 Network Solutions

Hi Folks, Would anyone be able to give me a heads up on which would be the cheapest and effective method for updating our MSSQL 2008R2 to 2014 either Standard or Enterprise, Details: Physical Host = 8 core Intel Xeon E5335 2GHz Virtual 2008R2 Server = allocated 2 cores, resides on above Any resellers please PM me with prices please, we do have an EES license but I have been told we would have to pay for this year in full even though it is halfway through and then again beginning of next year. Arrghhhhh! could shout but as the old chinese proverb states "If a tree falls in a forest, does anyone hear it?" Thanks for your time folks appreciated

I created my own shortcut to Pulsar.exe which always runs perfectly and quicker and this is what I use in the teaching staff program sets. I used to use the shortcuts created by the installation but it was always the wrong shortcut for the version or something else so decided once and for all to just create the above, has been working ever since and I never have to touch it again.

We used to use TASC and I must admit they were very good and since then they have developed a product that I feel cannot be matched in terms of cost and application. Just my penny's worth

[sims] SIMS SOLUS - Delegating upgrade rights for management by third party
bossman replied to msi's topic in MIS Systems
@msi: A windows account with which you can give certain rights to via group policy and ACL rights on the directories with its own application shortcuts. Then in Sims the LA would have their own account already setup in which to setup accounts, groups etc. The specific user account would then only have access to the Solus 3 and the SQL applications shortcuts to which read write ACLs would have been set on the directories where these apps run from. In using ACLs on the directories where these apps and all their files run from you will be able to stop any other directories and apps from being run by that specific user, therefore you would supply the LA with that specific user account to log in with so they can do their usual best. I do hope this clarifies things for you. regards Bossman -
Need recommendations on a projector, long throw.
bossman replied to mrbios's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
@mrbios: We have an Hitachi here which is long throw to 3m x 3m screen and it has been working flawlessly for the best part of 8 years, it too has a special long throw lens which actually cost neck end of 3k at the time, I am sure the model you have stated is the latest version of the same unit and I would not hesitate to purchase another. I also tried with a short throw Casio and like you I had the added politics so in the end went for the Hitachi and as above states we have been more than happy with it. -
[sims] SIMS SOLUS - Delegating upgrade rights for management by third party
bossman replied to msi's topic in MIS Systems
@msi: I would presume that you could either setup as you have suggested a group policy which would allow certain programs special rights. but why do all that when everything is set to work as is! I would create a specific user account which has the rights to access just the Solus 3 and Sims then within Sims find the best user controls that will allow the LA to do what is necessary both remotely and on site. Surely this would be a case of keeping it simple as long as the specific user has read write permissions over the directories which the Sims and Solus 3 use then that user would have everything it required, you could even deny access to all the other directories that are not required including the registry so that the LA can't do their very best to keep everything running well (Sarcastic note). regards Bossman -

Seems a coincidence that it coincides with the start of the motorcycling season! Noticed last weekend a lot more bikes out on the roads........easy money! Same as charging for parking in Hospitals and everywhere else, the motorist has to stump up again.......!!!

Hi All, Looking for a specific PSU for a bunch of our stations here, this is the one:Power Supply Unit AOpen Group Fsp200-60sav (PF) 200W | eBay If you have any old ATX workstations which you are getting rid of and they have these type of PSU's please could I ask you to let me know, I would like to buy them or if you are feeling very generous I will take them for nothing and pay postage and package if there are any kind souls out there. The reason is that we have an old suite of workstations which we were due to upgrade but unfortunately due to austerity measures they will have to last another year. Thank you all for reading Regards Bossman

@silver_uk: Have you got a working client? If so then copy the Sims.net from that machine and overwrite the original which is on the machine with the incompatible database. Normally you would rename the Sims.net to Simsold.net on the workstation with the incompatible database error and then copy a working Sims.net from another working machine if you get my drift rather than mess around within Solus 3 that is if you ever need to. It is caused by a corrupted installation from Solus 3 in which either a network error or HDD error has occurred. Good Luck
