@gerardsweeney: Came across this: While unblock should work it is not really the answer as Files should open on protected view. To achieve this PowerPoint needs to create a sandboxed copy of the file and something is stopping this. If you are fairly confident have a look here: Type dcomcnfg into the windows search box and open dcomcnfg.exe You should see a window with Console Root Expand the entry "Component Services" Expand the sub entry "Computers" RIGHT click "My Computers" and choose Properties Choose Default properties Tab There are two settings here: Default Authentication and Default Impersonantion, third part programs can alter them. If the settings are not Default and Identify that may be the problem. Don't mess if you are not confident you can put the settings back if it doesn't help! Reprographics last month = 48,120 StaffRoom MFD = 8715 All school printers = 6786 Total = 63,021 pages School size students = 750 on printer credits Staff = 120 on printer credits Staff are allocated 1000 printer credits per month Students year 7 - 9 allocated 50 credits per week Students year 10 and 11 allocated 100 credits per week Mono printers = 2 printer credits cost per print Colour printers = 5 printer credits cost per print No complaints as this is part of the strategy which SLT have sanctioned and is also monitored for usage other than school work.

We have been experiencing a few "Invoice macros" also some from a company down in Grimsby which I contacted tonight and they have admitted they have become a spam relay and their IT team are on it. I have tightened up our spam filters and they seem to be working pretty well and as stated only a couple of these have come through over the past few day's, I do know our LA's e-mail service has been hit badly and they are still working on their services to counteract the attacks. End users have to be constantly reminded on how to deal with bad mail and change their passwords regularly and make them more complex.

We apparently have a ghost of sorts and it walks the corridors at night, I have been here on all night sessions when required, just recently had a 24 hour session to recover a SAN outage which resulted in most of the admin services failing. I didn't encounter any ghost or spirit of any sort so I am a little sceptical, other members of staff especially the cleaning staff have reported sightings of various kinds of spooky events over the years. Spooky!

@HelloWill: Have you had a look at this company: https://www.synology.com/en-uk/products/RS3614xs+ I don't know if it is exactly what you looking for but they suite our storage requirements and they are scalable and meet most of your criterion and are possibly cheaper than you are being quoted from this other company, we have the above model and are looking to purchase another 2 with hybrid mix of SSDs for the cache and large capacity HDDs SATA drives for the storage of non critical files. It might be worth your while if only for advice

We had to move to version 5 which is supported by Windows 7, must say it is brilliant, once installed on the network an the relevant shared folders sorted deployed the client software and wham! The SEN are over the moon with its capabilities and reporting

Hi All, Just wondered if anyone has done this before or would know how to approach using the reporting function within Smoothwall? Scenario: The school has asked me to monitor a said student for what he is searching definitively, a certain word or name? Is this possible? Could I set this up as a scheduled weekly report to be e-mailed to a member of staff? If so could someone give me guidance on how to accomplish this as it is a very delicate situation. If possible could we filter his internet access accordingly to stop any results of this definitive search? thank you all in advance bossman

@Sanm2009: Have you looked at Xenserver 6.2.0 its free under open source licensing but if you want HA and Xen-motion (equivalent to V-motion) the cost is $500 per socket per year which gives you all the access to support and any updates for that year. I don't know how this would fare against the VMware price model but for us running 3 hosts in pool = $3000 per annum Just a thought

Hi All, Just wondered what everyone is doing for their PE department by way of video camera and large video files? I have been asked by my PE department to provide them with technical advice on obtaining a video camera for capturing full lessons with USB storage (External HDD) with the added detail of editing these videos in Windows live movie maker. I don't know what the limitations of Windows live movie maker is or have a clue about video cameras, would really appreciate peoples input on this, HOD states he has around £500 for this project. @tomazzotta: Have you tried copying the discover folder from one of the working machines to the one that is not working, either overwrite the current one or rename it and try that, then you will know that it is either a corrupt install of the discover or it is the workstation in which case if it is the latter then a rebuild of the workstation maybe in order.

A definite no! no! Our art department asked for it to be unfiltered here but after a quick look at the site was all it took for me to escalate to my line manager (DHT) who immediately said NO!!!

What about Citrix Xenserver which is now totally free and supports a majority of the platforms? Just another viewpoint to look into! I keep being told that I need to move to VMWare but I can't see why when all I require is in Xenserver and it now looks as if they are moving up a gear. Just a thought

Just sorting out our Hypervisor upgrade to version 6.2.0 which will then allow us to move to Server 2012R2 with SQL 2014, should be all done for the Spring release, looking at Summer to go fully Server 2012R2 with the possibility of Windows 10 clients, got a little bit of planning and testing to do before then.

We have a distribution list which we keep up to date and this is uploaded every term to our intranet, This has all details of the staff, which DL they are in so that they can send the e-mails to the required staff and no-one else, this cuts down on the All staff spam which used to get sent out with useless information or sensitive information attached or within with the message "I'm sorry if this does not apply to you" Now they have to think a little before they send We also have quotas on their mailboxes as they seem to want to save every little thing but now they have to do a little house keeping or else their mailbox fills up and they cannot send or receive any mail. I did want to go to the cloud for e-mail but SLT flat refused saying we require full autonomy of the system (Meaning they want access to everyone's mail but I have to be the one who looks after it) I could think of better things to do with my time

@tomgrindle: We use it site wide here and the feedback from the Music department is that its not Cubase or Sibelius but it is rather good at what it does, all for the price of nothing!
