  2. @Techdw: Windows firewall on clients and server not configured or stopping connection?
  3. Just completed and tested in 5 mins deployed perfectly with all the auto-updates suppressed. Extracted the msi wrote a quick ini with all the switches and imported into RMMC as package, deployed to test machine et voila! Quickest one yet Happy days
  4. Liberum here totally free and meets the requirements (Simple interface for the Staff) hehe! Liberum Help Desk - Open source help desk software
  5. It is not just the DM who are reporting this but quite a few media sources, also although the initial contact was made out of school (Still a safeguarding issue, lack of education on behalf of the school) the young lady in question was still allowed to access the site and contact the person involved, it is obvious that the schools internet and safeguarding policies are either non existent or not workable, I like the way in which it now states the internet security which was supposed to stop events like this happening had not been updated (Pah! excuse) it seems they are looking to ether lay the blame on the IT personnel or the company that runs the systems, a get out of jail free card! Blame the IT systems and not the Teaching staff or Principals who run the school....................shifting sands!!!
  6. @MattDLEA: It will be a noisy fan, the bearings will be shot, only thing you can do is replace the whole fan unit which we have done on a couple of our units (Not the same as yours) you will usually find that the part is peanuts to pay for around 6 or 7 quid. If they are under warranty get them swapped out or if not I'm afraid it is down to you or your LEA if you have hardware SLA's, Good luck
  7. I too had the Head of ICT e-mail me to ask if I would check it out as she couldn't seem to find it so she could show it to year 9 and above, I went to channel 4 OD online and found it straight away, it had the parental control warning not suitable for under 16s so that may mean she cannot show it, I did point it out to her in a return e-mail and to cover myself CC'd my line manager in with it.
  8. @Joanne: It seems to me that the depth of field settings are not set right which makes the background soft and blurry, having said that I have not got a clue as to how you would alter it, maybe a search through the manual may help, Good luck Have a read through this it may help http://www.macworld.com/article/1150150/depthoffield.html
  9. Having started my healthy eating regime 2 weeks ago, I was truly amazed this morning, having lost 8lbs in the first week I wasn't expecting much the second....! To my amazement I have lost a further 10lbs wow!!! Total loss over 2 weeks = 18lbs Feeling fantastic
  10. @localzuk: Yes ours is part of the whole school BRP and temporary accommodation would be managed by the LEA as we are still an LEA school and not an Academy so we don't have to worry about such matters. As I mentioned earlier if such a disaster happened to our school then our data would be accessible via offsite data backups alongside VM snapshots which if necessary could all be setup on rented virtual servers. I don't feel it would be necessary as I still feel the students would be hived off to other schools around the area and all they would have to worry about is having access to their coursework, I don't know what would befall the Teaching staff or other admin staff but I am sure the LEA would sort something.
  11. Got a BRP which is incrementally updated as the system changes, point is if there was ever a major disaster then I feel all you would require is the MIS data and the staff and students work as they would probably be hived off to other schools around the county. I couldn't see another school being built within 6 Months anyway so would probably be started from scratch with brand new systems.

  13. @karan_jhr: Why do you have to include another router when all that is required is a switch?

    SPAM

The bad file types ie exe's are filtered to quarantine and send a message to the end user hehe! I usually get the message forwarded to me saying that they are "frightened to read it haha!" dopey or what? Or they will ask "Am I infected?" makes me cry with laughter

    SPAM

Odd one or 2, the invoice ones but I have tightened our spam filters until they are just on the limit and warned the staff, can't really do any more, one of the staff over Christmas accidentally opened one of these invoice's which quickly sent her details to a spam server in Africa which used her account to send 21000 spam e-mails in just under 6 hours. Problem was this member of staff didn't tell me and it took me 3 days to get our mail server un-blacklisted from all the players and 2 which were from Canada who seem to have a very tight grip on advertising spam and blacklisted us as "truncated" and "lashbacked", it seems to be getting worse with e-mail I feel and speaking to one or two other IT pro's that people are quite regularly being blacklisted. Hey ho! what a wonderful world we live in!
  16. @fiza: Synology for the cost and its features, been absolutely great got some low level VM's running on it.
  17. Hi Everyone, I have been asked to evaluate Sam Learning, so could I ask everyone, how good is Sam Learning? Appreciate all aspects. Thanks in advance Bossman
  18. We had the same trouble with being blacklisted by Microsoft, those users should be receiving a bounce back e-mail from Microsoft with a link to send asking them to unlist you from their blacklist. It only took 24 hours but they got back to me almost immediately with a response. Good Luck
  19. @KDT: Do you have STP configured on your switches? This could be what is slowing down the connection as this can take up to 30 secs to connect whereas the DHCP protocol is almost immediate, we had this problem and only have STP enabled on our upload links an portfast on all ports. Not saying that this is your problem but could be if the machine is not able to contact the DHCP after PXE boot. Could it also be that you don't have the correct Nic driver in the build image?
  20. @MatthewL: I am originally from Withernsea near Hull so does this count hehe! Can I join?
  21. Our Data team here have bought it and they are receiving training this week, from what I have seen it analyses the data more intensely and gives a better interpretation of the data held with Sims. I haven't been brought up to speed as what the requirements are as I am out of the loop as per usual (I'm only the guy who has to install and configure) so as for training, I will receive non, but be expected to know it inside out. Quite frankly I don't give a damn!
  22. @TheGrumblingTech: Been there done that! Counselling didn't work for me but it may work for you, Can recommend a very good book entiltled "Stop thinking start Living" by Richard Carlson, very good and this worked for me, Amazon Good luck
  23. All done here Autumn 2 installed with Solus upgrade and B2B patch all working fine, in fact it has actually reduced its hunger for memory and CPU usage on both client and Server, has speeded up the login time too woohoo! Happy Days
  24. @Rprouty: Meraki are in fact Cisco as they bought them out, they are still running as Meraki but under the Cisco label as far as I am aware, https://meraki.cisco.com/ Cisco buys Meraki for $1.2 billion: 5 reasons the deal makes sense | ZDNet Happy days
  25. @timbo343: What happens when you ping the PC's own IP address? (Not loopback)
