@witch One! has to get One's point across though! Doesn't One!!! hehe!!!
-
@edsa131 Not your problem!!! Push it back to your SLT and don't be put on! It was their decision to drop the support so now they have to pay the price!!! This is bad management on their behalf and if they think they can get away with this then they will start dropping other service support just as easy, These are just my thoughts but they wouldn't hesitate in your place if they had this decision to make!!

Happy Birthday Ric! Wishing you the very best, enjoy your day

@pete @spr All sorted, created a policy in Smoothwall and whitelisted the url also outgoing rule for IP address and all is well Thank you all for your help 3 workstations on test atm all looking good

@pete Downloaded the full silent installer which has installed on the test workstation but it has been 10 mins plus and no sign of it in the console could this be Smoothwall blocking the Avast admin servers? I have configured the proxy settings in the console but without devices I cannot activate and set the default settings for the AV a catch 22 atm
-
No I didn't as I only downloaded the light installer version, will try again, Well that could be a help, thanks No I haven't as I am just testing at the moment, would you happen to have the URL or IPs of those servers please?
-
Testing out at the moment, have hit a problem with our Smoothwall when I run the installer exe, it returns an error which states it cannot download files: 14:39:05Errordldwrap[3720,3316]GetFileWithRetry: An error 41222 (0x0000A106) [Host unreachable] has occured when downloading a file from 'http://j6527783.iabs.u.avast.com/iabs/servers.def.vpx'. This is obviously our Smoothwall box but for the life of me I have unfiltered the URL in the error above but just get more, am I missing something here and do I need to do something more? regards bossman

We use a well known guy called @webman who designed and built ours around 4 years ago, we have just recently won "Best education website and media" across the North East, Although @webman did not receive any adulation for this as everything was done by our BM who failed to even acknowledge any of the IT staff but instead praise the PR guy who only works 5 hours per week with the content but then that is another story. When Ofsted came in last year we received an outstanding for the website which again went without any thanks but it seems unless you are a VIP or a member of the SLT or teaching you are not noticed...............transparency being the keyword, which when you look at it we would rather be not noticed than constantly being in the headlines. @webman now works for a company Cloud Data Service who delivers this type of support so maybe worthwhile getting in touch Welcome to Bishop Barrington School. Had the OPO for 3 months and it just rocks!!! Having had Samsungs and HTCs plus LGs and BB and daughter has had IPhones, I can honestly say I have had no problems at all and the Lollipop update is being released at the end of this month with the option of their new Oxygen OS due out soon also which will be readily available for their release of the One Plus Two which will have more features and more memory and a different CPU type with more cores. battery life is excellent and lasts around 2 days with heavy use. The OPO is IMHO is probably the best phone around atm in both price and operation. Daughter is so impressed she has bought one

+1 for Synology, actually running VMs on ours at the moment as the old SAN has ran out of space, RAID 6 33TB formatted storage for £4k IOPs a plenty. Did look at Netgear and QNAPs also Nimble but non could match the performance, I have just priced up 2 x RS3146xs+ models with SSD drives giving 5TB formatted storage with sync for failover at a cost of £11k the IOPs are unbelievable and they are fully hypervisor certified for Citrix, VMWare and Hyper-V excellent value for money. Ohh! forgot............................they come with 5 years warranty as standard
-
Another storage solution provider worth a look is Synology NAS/SAN hybrid systems incorporating SSDs for cache level SAN and SAS or SATA support for 8TB drives for DATA storage. Hypervisor verified with Citrix, Hyper-V and VMWare https://www.synology.com/en-global/products/RS3614xs+

@Willott: Have had MRI scan which shows tears in the medial and lateral cartilage, consultant has stated it can be repaired but there is a chance they could make it worse and I am not willing to take that chance as the odds are not really that good. I have drawn up a walking exercise chart which will help and also as I have said in previous posts will up the Pilate's to 2 sessions per week (Time and money are the key factors) plus factoring in swimming if I can fit it in. @witch is perfectly right when she states I am built like a rugby player so people don't look at me and see an Obese person just broadly built with solid tree trunk legs hehe!

I think someone who subscribes to Edugeek was sent an e-mail by an actual Apple Support engineer it stated: "To conclude, IPads are meant to be stand alone devices. They are not computers and are not designed to be used as part of a network" I have a copy of this stuck on my wall and the words are highlighted so when Teaching staff come in to see me they can read it quite clearly. We have monitored the use of all our wireless devices and the best ones to date which are used the most and give good value for money are the HP100e notebooks which are now obsolete but we still have 35 of them and they work very well indeed with Windows 7 pro. Our IPads don't get used that much and then only by Teaching members of staff for their own personal stuff vary rarely are they used for delivering lessons. Been watching Chromebooks for a couple of years now to see their advancement into the education sector and it seems they have done their homework.

Typical breakfast: 2 tbs Greek fat free yougurt 6 halves walnuts 1tsp Clear honey Lunch: Pasta with sardines or mackerel in tomato sauce or a fat free mugshot Dinner: Pasta dish or fish dish with potatoes and fresh veg I don't snack and drink black tea and coffee no sugar approximately 6 cups per day on average. I only have a drink on a weekend and lately that has consisted of one bottle of beer with my Sunday lunch. I would think I am eating around 1000 - 1500 calories per day I feel as if my metabolism has slowed to a standstill. Will be looking at bike riding and also get the walking backup to strength so watch this space Thanks everyone for the support

Sticking on 25lbs loss since New Year, only doing one class of pilate's per week which is more of a stretching core muscle workout. Swimming would be good but as the nearest Swimming complex is 10 miles away there is not the enthusiasm for travelling to swim especially when it is usually full of children and is really more of a fun complex than cater for actual swimmers (Wave machine etc etc). As my knee is goosed I can only walk at a certain pace and for a short period of time (Used to do 2 hours every evening approx 6 - 8 miles with an hour every morning) can no longer sustain this. I do sit ups and press ups every morning and that does give me a little shape but as for weight loss it actually increases with the creating of muscle mass. 15st 9lbs at the moment with a height of 5' 10" would love to get down to 13st 6lbs or less if possible without starving or crippling myself. BMI tells me I am actually obese but I cant see my way to getting into what they call the safe zone for my height which is at least 12st 7lbs at the top.

@Sunnyknight Good luck fella, all the very best for the future

I'm pleased I held back after all, due to circumstances beyond my control I have been unable to migrate to a new server so still on 2008R2 and SQL 2008R2 (Virtual) all seems well and no speed issues in fact it seems slightly quicker. Will eventually migrate when we have everything else sorted but I'm not in any hurry if this is what happens Sims FMS Discover Happy day's

[BBC News]Customer data stolen in TalkTalk hack attack
bossman replied to elsiegee40's topic in IT News
@elsiegee40 Yeah been contacted by e-mail informing everyone of this scammer attack and I must admit they have acted very quickly in response to this, I feel they have acted in a very proper and professional manner and it just goes to show you that third parties cannot be trusted 100% and that stringent security checks have to be constantly run to alleviate this type of attack. It is a constant threat in this digital world of ours, how many people do we know who have had their bank account details stolen or cloned? It is very worrying but this is the price we have to pay for having a world where information and services are available instantly to cope with the ever demanding requests from the end user. -
@Marshall_IT I've been running VMs on ours for 6-9 months now with no problems, we have had the unit over a year but this is with just SATA 4TB WD Reds X 24 which gives us 32TB of staorage which I have carved up into 3 x 11TB LUNs and our Xenserver just connects via ISCSi sweet! Cost £4k complete. The new models can support both SSDs and 8TB SATA so you can mix and use the SSDs for caching with not much difference in price but you do lose a little storage. I would give them a ring and see what they can do for you as I think you might be pleasantly surprised.....Oh BTW they also have a 5 years warranty with all models.
